So because I generally agree with sitwell on here I'm a crony and my views are not valid even though I have never knowingly met him?
All I know is, there's some reyt cronies on this thread.![]()
'Crony' was perhaps a strong word, sorry about that to you and others.
No, to your question then. What I mean is Sitwell has earned a little 'cult' following who love his (alternative) sense of humour and his outspoken ways. I too enjoy his input on here but disagree and agree with him a lot..
He picks up 'likes' very easily , as I said "good luck to him", yet provokes opposite views more often. That's all, I was really backing up Fulwoods point about debating respectfully.

Of course, Wyke was untried and untested at this level whereas Hanson has been around this Div and above for a few years. Our aim in Jan was to sign players to try and bolster our promotion bid and that is exactly what all our signings look like they are helping us achieve. Hanson was just the type of player we needed. It seems Wyke has started well at Bradford but it was a bit of a gamble. We knew waht we were getting. If we are promoted it would mean another big step up for Wyke so it would make the risk of buying him a bit bigger. Whether Hanson cuts it again in the Championship we don't know, but he has played at that level and more so than most of our squad. To have genuine options to strengthen the team at various points in a match is something we now have. To be able to bring on players like Carruthers, O'Shea and Lavery makes such a difference. If Hanson doesn't start I suspect defences wouldn't be too pleased to see him come on as they know they will be in for a battle late on in the game. Too often we just had no one able to do that with the central defenders. One high ball to the back post yesterday in the first half saw Hanson get a powerful header back into the danger area where, to many fans, Sharpe, was pushed to the ground but the referee didn't agree. We hadn't got that option before he arrived. Also, a few teams have pushed up onto our midfield and sometimes the ball has to go long from the back. It happened a few times yesterday and Hanson had three men around him on the long kicks but he won nearly all of them. Ok, they may not all have gone direct to our players but it helped us get some possession in the opposition half.

Hanson wasn't Wilders first choice,Clarke was.He was bought because Clarke was going to miss most of the season through injury and he felt this type of player was an essential part of our gaining promotion,Wilder was right again !!
I bet he had to do some convincing, having already secured Clarke on a 3 year contract,it was a big call funding the Hanson purchase, you are quite right. And the Board backed him strongly in January.
is he good enough, and should he be dropped?
No and yes for me, no better than clarke. Would rather clarke (if fit) but lavery for me should be starting ahead of him. For me he has no place here next season if we go up.
He was poor yesterday, Lavery should have replaced him sooner,
I think his only real asset is his height. His passing is not good. He does not score and apart from his flick on heading he does not get a header on the goal target with any force. At Oxford and Swindon he was ineffective. Yesterday he was again ineffective.
This is not good enough. His ability in the air, which I originally believed was his biggest strength, is also no where near good enough for a man his size. J
Someone who can trap a football would be a good start
Bad signing, not needed now and certainly not required next season.
The relevant plus points to Hanson have already been well said, but here's my two pence worth:
- He's a nuisance up top and gives big burly League One centre backs something more to think about that the more diminutive Sharp et al (who, in truth, doesn't let himself get bullied)
- For a big lad he does a hell of a lot of running and chasing down and by the time Wilder subs him off on 80 minutes the man can barely drag himself off the pitch. That in itself is commendable.
- To compliment his physical presence in attack, he offers additional height when defending set-plays, leaving Sharp and Fleck to worry about counter-attacking. Granted, Basham, O'Connell and Ebanks-Landell are no dwarves, but his defensive work is not to be sniffed at in this rough-and-tumble division. I'd rather have him challenging for the ball in the air from inswinging corners than Duffy...
- Following on from point 2, to be able to put the likes of Carruthers, Lavery or O'Shea on in place of Hanson for the last 10-15 minutes is a great tactic and the injection of pace and skill must be a real pain in the arse for opposition defenders as they start to tire.
Sharp and Hanson is our Owen and Heskey![]()
As you know Silent football is always an opinion and we can all view the game in different ways.DronnieBlade metalblade SUFCinks and other Hanson Haters
Please have another look at the below video and can you tell me how many Charlton defenders were marking Hanson for each of our goals and why did O'Connell and Lafferty have a lot of space when heading the crosses? Bet you will either not answer this or still refuse to give Hanson credit for the two goals

Like the 50 million quids worth over the dark side who are banging them in left right and centre ?

Hanson haters? I don't think anyone as said that more like he isn't scoring enough that's all. You really are a drama queen at times, mind you there are a few cronies use this site who go ape shit at the first sign of someone not clapping like a seal.DronnieBlade metalblade SUFCinks and other Hanson Haters

You should retract the word "haters" - this thread has got nothing whatsoever to do with hating a player.
Have you ever condoned the posters calling Mcnuts cunt, twat etc ? Thought not.

OK I'll bite.
If your seriously given Hanson any sort of credit for the first, your deluding yourself. Watch it again. The goal is made purely of a good delivery and JOC getting in front of his marker. Hanson doesn't occupy anyone in this active phase. He is behind towards the back stick.
Now, the 2nd goal. You do have a point !.
The back stick defender follows and tracks Hansons run when he should have passed him on to the other CB marking fresh air. Hansons movement is good , first moving towards the back stick then makes a run towards centre of goal taking said defender with him, leaving Lafferty in Acres.
Good movement from Hanson combined by poor defending creates the back stick overload.
That said, I'll stand by my overall assessment of Hanson based on his stint on the pitch on Saturday.
I wasn't at Rochdale or Oxford. Informed opinion suggests he wasn't great there either.
All abart opinions ! Mine and yours differ wildly to the extent we can't both be right !!!!

PS the fact Wilder picks him makes it impossible for me to hate him. I'll question his judgement at times, nothing more, nothing less![]()

He is a limited league one target man get over it FFS.
I remember someone saying Nick Montgomery was the best midfielder they had ever played against .................................... OH how we laughed, yeah no fucker believed that one either. As well as a drama queen you are a bit gullible too it seemsHow predictable! I prefer to listen to John Terry's endorsement of James Hanson.

It was Frank Lampard who said Monty was very difficult to play against rather than best midfielder he played against.I remember someone saying Nick Montgomery was the best midfielder they had ever played against .................................... Oh yes, Wilder is a poor manager! It really is quite extraordinary how you keep taking yourself to new levels of silliness.
