I've noticed that Bochum has been mentioned twice. Sheffield is twinned with Bochum as it happens. I wonder if that's got anything to do with it?
And the University has had exchange arrangements for students and staff over many years. There are quite a few people each year moving between the 2 cities. Positive views of Utd could help the city as well.

We used to have a German guy make the trip to the lane to see us occasionally, God knows why? I found out he was German when we got talking when I was selling programmes he had seen us on TV got interested and it ended up that he had to come over and see us at a live game, I suppose he was hooked after that.
Drei Pfund dein Spielprogramm.

After 32 sensible posts it is definitely time for a Cherman stereotype, to lower the tone. I give you the Queen of Duisberg:

That OP has just made my day.

I hope the powers that be at the club read this and realise that once again it's the Blades supporters that are it's greatest asset.

Wasn't it Xavi or Iniesta a couple of years ago made reference to our supporters? As did Pochettino in a Spanish newspaper.

Xavi in the May 2016 issue of Four Four Two Magazine. On the front cover: Sheffield United "Great fans". During full interview: "Lower League football in England is another world. The other day, near where I live, a little English kid came up to me , asking for an autograph. I asked him who he supported expecting to hear Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool, Tottenham..."I'm a Sheffield United fan", he said. They're in Leaue One. League One?! And this kid doesn't care about any other team than Sheffield United. Fantastic".
“I follow Middlesbrough because Aitor Karanka is there.

In another interview: “I met a boy the other day. English. He was wearing a Barca shirt but I asked him who he supported. He said: ‘Sheffield United’. I know them, they have 20,000 fans in the third division. That’s incredible. You get that in England http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/barcelona-legend-xavi-loves-football-6905548

Also worth mentioning, in the January 2011 edition of Four Four Two magazine, Diego Maradona tells the story of how he almost signed for the Blades. I don't think this has ever been confirmed anywhere else.

I was talking to a barman in Antalya, Turkey about 4 years ago and he asked me where I was from. When I replied 'Sheffield' he immediately said "Sheffield United yes? Best team in the city!" We didn't even dignify the existence of 'The Massive' in the ensuing conversation.

Speaking of Turkey. I've always found the supposed relationship with Fenerbahce to be a bit one-sided. They seem to be more into it.

A shame really, I'm all for forging links with other clubs as long as they aren't direct rivals.

I had a similar conversation with a guy in Egypt

Over twenty years ago we were in Marmaris, walking along the beach. We'd just been relegated. A barman, as they do in Turkey, was trying to encourage people to eat in their restaurant. As soon as he saw us, with Blades gear on, he ran inside and came out wearing a pigs shirt and gave us some stick. We took it in good part and actually got very friendly with him, his wife was from ScArborough.

The train is rolling, our fame is spreading. Fans will be singing our name in bars around the world.

Like the ending which is a bit different to how we sing it

Was going to go to Dortmund's game last night, but a combination of bad weather and horrendous roadworks kept me at home. So I watched the game in a sports bar. I sat with a group of Dortmund, Bochum and Hannover fans. I'm an anti social git. I don't like people generally, so I didn't speak to anyone. At half time I heard them all discussing attendances. A Bochum fan mentioned a team in the English 3rd division who were getting 28000. One of the Dortmund fans named us. He knew a lot about us, mentioned the cup runs last year, the age of the club, first floodlit game and us being top this year after a poor start. He even mentioned Billy Sharp, who they all seemed to have heard of. The consensus was that crowds like that would be unthinkable in the German third tier. One of the Bochum fans then went on his phone and spent 5 mins reading out facts about us. So well done all of you who have gone and go,week in and week out. You have got the Blades recognised and respected, abroad.

Like you , im also anti social , but im simply staggered that you didnt waltz over , throw your ale over them and tell them to keep their sausage munching , war mongering , teutonic snecks out of our business ..... havent they heard of Brexit . Bastards .

Marcus still writes about the Blades, and his love of music - does a rather self-indulgent Christmas countdown every December; I'm on the distribution list and he's pointed me at some great obscure stuff over the years.

Happy Harry agreed a £500k fee with Boca but the board refused to sanction the deal.

Probably just as well, we'd have only sold him to Leeds 6 months later for £750k.

I was on a business trip in Athens last week and over lunch started talking with my Greek hosts about football. They asked who I supported and after saying "oh, you won't have heard of them..." and revealing it was United one of the guys said "ph, the Blades!". He then started to reminisce about Dellas and Vas.
