Wilder's celebration at the end

If Warnock had marched across the pitch thumping his chest and kissing the badge he would have been slagged off for it by some.
In truth, there is little difference between their victory celebrations unless viewed through Warnock-hating spectacles.
I don’t see too much analysis on here of what David Weir’s victory celebration (singular) tells us about his personality.

I will say I though it was Fleck's poorest game for us tonight and it took until the 60th minute for corruthers to get going. I don't care though because the points are what matters.

I was planning on getting back the A43 way because I was frustrated being stuck on the M40 for too long driving down. There were at least three warning signs on the A34 (didnt you see them?) that there were problems between junction 16 and 15 on the M1 so O decided to go to the M40 route which was easy despite the heavy rain

We didn't get out of the car park until after 10.30pm, missed the train connection at Didcot and finally got home in London at 2am. How can they build infrastructure where everybody has to travel by car and there is only one access route? It soiled an otherwise excellent result. Thank God there were only 9,000 there otherwise we'd still be in the car park for the next home match.
 
My take on it was,it was a salute to the travelling fans and an acknowledgment that we all had come through a very tricky 94 minutes with another win,showing what an important result it was for his team and him personally,and it was a joy to behold,seeing our Manager doing such a thing

There was another thread about whether you'd ever cried over the Blades.
Tell you what if, naaah when, we go up as champions and CW is showing that kind of compassion for his beloved Blades at a packed BDTBL and got us up after all the shit of the previous few years, them tears are gonna take some holding back

I would imagine Chris would be weeping back at you,I don't think I will cry,just have a grin from ear to ear,that will last until August
 
Personally I was really upset by Garners antics on the pitch after Burton's win at Bramall Lane last season. Of course i understood it but it lacked class and maturity. Even when Garner and Clough left in difficult circumstances, there were still 60pc on here for example who were sorry too see them leave. Garners antics were disrespectful to the supporters they still had in S2. No surprise to me but I never liked him.

Same applies to Wilder last night IMO. He wasn't sacked, he left of his own accord. Many of Oxford 's fans will have been hurt unless he acknowledged their supporters as well. I hope he did before going to the Blades fans, I feel sure he will have done.

Wilder is a relationships person, no doubt about it. Btw I'm not one who expects past players years not to celebrate goals against their old clubs, but they tend not to.

Oxford United just isn't set up to handle games against clubs of our size.

Don;t want to turn this thread into yet another pro-anti Warnock argument, but Warnock also used to go on the kop as a lad and watch us away. His celebrations (beating the pigs is a prime example) were often just as passionate as Wilder's. And he wasn't ever 'practically begging for the Wednesday job'. As a Blade and given his comments about deliberately taking them down, he has never been realistically in the running for the Sty hot-seat..

Two different personalities - Warnock was gobby, chatty, critical of the opposition and refs and a bit of a loose cannon who grated on some. Wilder's a man of less words and more action. Warnock was our most successful manager this century - hopefully Wilder can do even better. But Wilder's success shouldn't be a reason to slag off Warnock.

Oxford Utras... You gotta laugh.

First half we were very poor, by our standards, to much long ball made to look worse by Hanson being in-effective. We couldn't pass to each other or hardly control a ball. Midfield was slow in thought and action. I was relieved we managed to get in only 1 down.

Second half was better once Lavery came on and we started to play. We started to look more mobile all over the pitch. Midfield picked up, passes were finding our own players and Bash was driving us forward everytime he got the ball and we were rewarded for the improved performance.

I loved how we got under Maguire's skin, he couldn't handle the "You're just a fat piggy bastard" chant, I really thought he was going to pop at one point, fucking hilarious, made more so by my Missus chanting it at him :D

Blades were excellent, 1600+ on a Tueasday night at one of the most rediculously inaccessible grounds is almost beyond words for me.

Loved the players coming over at the end and having a good celebration with us, but that was nothing to how cracking it was when Sir Chris came over.

Can't explain why, but that felt a big result to me.

Bring on Swindon.

I've got to agree, Chris doesn't seem the type. I remember last season when Northampton got a result at Portsmouth, him being gushing in his praise of the way they had been treated down there. We have already seen, that after a game, Chris will tell it how it was, no dressing up performances if we haven't deserved it, witness the Rochdale game. Just don't think he would want to rub their noses in it, why would he really ?, we have taken 6 points from them this season. As far as I am aware, Chris did a decent job at Oxford, if the ungrateful bastards don't appreciate it, fuck 'em.
 
No matter what Warnock says for the benefit of the media etc., he obviously is a Blade, just like all of us.
And people who slag Warnock, think of Andy Woodward's words on how much support Neil gave him during such a difficult period for him.

As for Wilders antics, I loved it! It makes an occasion memorable. I think of matches at the lane where opposition players have celebrated, such as the Leeds midget Strachan sat on the advertising hoarding. Ian Wright scoring for Palace and giving it the old standing kop after we had given him tons of grief. I hated it at the time, but you remember- and get your revenge. With Strachan, for me it was his "i'm not shattered" speech after we turned the once nearly mighty Coventry over in the quarter final.

Passion for the club can only take you so far. Mickey Adams was a passionate Blade and it didn't work for him. Chris Morgan didn't lack passion either. There are countless examples of a manager and 'lifelong fan' of a club not cutting it as the manager. You really need a great eye for a player, good coaching and tactics, and a fair bit of luck. Wilder and Knill seems to have cracked it at the moment, but we will go on bad runs in the future.

You only need to witness the abuse hurled at Wilder on this forum after four games to realise that this is his honeymoon period. Will the fans still be as enthusiastic if we're in the bottom half of the championship, losing to Barnsley and Burton? If we're flirting with relegation, will the Board keep faith with him?

As you say, don't want to make this about Warnock, but I'm sorry he definitely HAS been in the running for the Wednesday job.

In his own words he says he's been offered it before he took over us and after, and then went and had talks with Manderic about the job when out of work.

He wanted the job, again, in his own words.

These are his own words after Dave Jones was sacked and he was approached by Mandaric. I think it was a bit of a wind up tbh.

'We both realised it was not to be,' said Warnock on talkSPORT. 'It's been an interesting week.

'When Milan phoned me originally, I did tell him it would be pretty much impossible to manage Sheffield Wednesday when I’m a Blade, but he asked me to have time to think about it.'

'No disrespect to the other candidates, but he wanted me to try and keep them up. He has tried to bring me in as his manager about four times over the last 20 years so I have got a lot of respect for him.

'I have been really pleased about the number of people in Sheffield - Sheffield Wednesday fans as well - that wanted me. But I think it's time to put myself to bed.'

'I spoke to Milan last night and we both realised that it wasn't the right time. I don’t think it was going to benefit anybody by dragging it on.'

If he both wanted the job and was offered it, why didn't he take the job? Something doesn't quite add up there does it?

His actual words were:- "Milan spoke to me and I knew he wanted to bring someone in to keep them up really. I did say to him that it was pretty much impossible for a Blade to manage the Owls and I think he's had a bit of a think since then about the rivalry in the city.

Hardly "begging for the Wednesday job".

That was a MASSIVE result that last night. Let's not slipped up vs Swindon now.

When we were losing last night, Fleetwood could've closed the gap to just 2pts. It's tight as hell.... Still.

Secondly, when you say we didn't play particularly well, presumably you mean by the very high standards they have set this season? I think there's a danger that people (not necessarily yourself) are beginning to expect excellence as a minimum standard. I hope that becomes a reality but I think we need to cut some slack when a very good team falls below its benchmark standard from time to time, I've seen 'dire' and 'crap' tonight and 'gash' in the recent past. I am pretty down to earth with my views on our play. I don't watch Premier League or foreign football, so I don't expect too much of us. Honestly, that first half was awful. We couldn't string two passes together, Coutts was poor as was Fleck and I really rate both these players. We also missed Duffy. Our final ball was terrible, crosses over hit nearly every time. I'm sorry, dire came from me and that is what the first half was. The second half, once we had scored, seemed to take the wind out of the Oxford players sails and we stepped up a gear. I thought Basham was great, getting forward and Lavery is very strong and quick seemed to just skip past their players. Oxford faded and we didn't. We seem to be much fitter than most teams.
Having said that, I wish fans would be patient. There were quite a few apoplectic Blades going mental with our players every time a pass was misplaced. When we aren't playing so well, this is the time to get behind the team.
