Sixteen months.

Even longer though, someone's been dodging the answer of how the two events reconcile time wise.

Ok then Pete you want an answer, I suggest you ask whoever said Murphy was sold to pay for the Desso because it wasn't me and for what it is worth I don't believe he was sold to fund the Desso. My argument is that at the time the club was saying we didn't have to sell players but that is exactly what they did whether they wanted away is immaterial we didn't replace Murphy or Maguire the season before unless you think Woolford and McGahey were adequate. Why was there no adequate replacements? why couldn't we get a transfer over the line yet at the same time money was available for a new pitch? Anyone thinking the two aren't linked probably still believes in fairies and Father Christmas.
Your turn now Pete .......
Did last seasons squad of no hoper's even get us anywhere near the play off's on the Desso?
Did J Wallace suddenly become injury free or any of the rest never pick up an injury by playing on a Desso?
Has the Desso brought in significant income from other events?

You'd have to ask someone who made any claims about the Desso pitch my friend. I've personally never made any.

The Chap who did make the Murphy claim doesn't half get himself worked up into a state though. It wasn't long back he was making other wild claims when we went through our brief wobble.

Really?

Seem to recall I was quite sanguine about it, compared to others on here.

But, y'know. Your POV counts. You're a bigger Blade than I.

Yeah. Flash to bang. Try working in contracts and acquisitions sometime. Your concept that money available to buy something and the realization the club isn't going to be promoted and the panic jettisoning of its only left wing goal outlet is clearly lost on you. Previous season's top league goalscorer ... back when the Desso deal was, as you say, being finalized. Maybe we were banking on being promoted when we banged out of the playoffs due to having a shitbox backline. Maybe not.

Keep taking the Kool Aid.

Ha ha, I didn't even have to mention going to football matches to set you off about "bigger Blades" again!

And yes, Id love to re-read the thread again where you went off on one because we'd had a couple of dodgy results.

I'm sure you can do better than that Pete I gave you my opinion on the Desso still I suppose the answers to my questions wouldn't suit your agenda. If you don't really have an opinion why the hell are you posting on the thread? which camp are you in Stalker, WUM or Smoke & Mirrors?

Think you're getting me confused with others here PB.

I feared we may end up in the playoffs, which is where we don't want to be. But I have faith in Wilder, and more faith in McCabe now he hasn't flogged off our better players, as he has in the past.

You confident that he and HRH are going to fulfil their pledge to invest in the team if we are promoted?

That's no answer. It's waffle. Sixteen months. Why can't you answer the points raised about your clear claim that Murphy was sold to pay for the Desso? You know it's a simple enough question but you can't deal with it so you go off at bigger blade tangents, fabricate conversations on bring in old transfers. I genuinely thought you had more about you.

I'll leave it with you, buy yourself another Internet argument cup but remember, all that glisters is not gold.

Perhaps it is a good long term investment. I wouldn't pretend to know the facts and figures that the decision was made on. Let's hope so. It is however true that the board could have chosen to spend the money on something else. They didn't. What's done is done. The only reason I posted was because it seems ridiculous that this is brought up time and again.

sitwell, thank god we had the Desso when we played Rochdale at home this season. Didn't we absolutely smash them.....1-1?
If that's the strength of your argument ,well you have a pretty shit argument to be fair. It is now March ,we have one player out injured ,Clarke ,who was injured before he came ,we picked up at least 3 on Saturday ,coincidence ? We play almost the same side week in week out ,Adkins didn't because he was a shit manager ,nothing to do with the pitch if you are still hankering after last season.

I'm sure we had some kind of discussion (happy to be proven wrong) where after we lost to Fleetwood we'd apparently 'peaked' or something and I suggested that based on the other 20 odd games I'd seen I don't think we had and you went into one of your bigger blades rants.

Better than what? I can't falsely claim to have made an argument about the pitch if I haven't made one.

I also find it a bit laughable that you accuse ME of having an agenda.

My only agenda is thoroughly enjoying a season where we're playing good football on a good pitch (sorry!) winning far more than we lose and look like an excellent shout to go up.

I have to question the agenda of anyone who still finds themselves getting terribly angry about bugger all during the best season we've had quite a number of years.

I'm genuinely not sure what's up with those folk.

Do I actually need to see them play? From what has been reported, both on and off here:

O'Connell and Wilson: Possibly 80% of what we had with Collins and McEverley. And they ere shitola
Fleck: Spends his time watching the ball fly past him
Clarke: Playing as part of a front pairing with a bloke who doesn't like being in a front pairing
Hussy: Shitola
Duffy: No great shakes. Flynn was possibly better. There. It's been said.

There was a danger we had peaked, and I think I wasn't the one who raised it.

I have been very confident of Wilder shaking off the blip. This being further reinforced by us not flogging on field talent to shore up finances and spare-cash follies.

What about next season and McCabe, PB? Confident he'll plogh cash in as he promised? You seem not. Mebbes the stand needs a new coat of paint, eh?

So, at that time, how exactly were we doing, Bert?

The back four couldn't stop fuck all (see the results). The midfield was all over the shop. Clarke hasn't played much since. Hussy neither. Duffy has waxed and waned.

The recent 'blip' was expected and indeed expected to be overcome.

Took Bert all evening to dig that out, eh?

Apologies, missed that part. Yes, confident we'll invest money next season. That seems to have been the plan all along, however misguided.

How about you, what do you think you'll get angry about next season?

Duffy hasn't really waxed and waned. He's had games where he's been elegantly destructive, games where he has been our standout attacking player, games when he has drifted in and out, and the occasional poor game.

You were panicking in January that McCabe was going to sell Duffy. Make your mind up.

I'm not angry about this season. I am disappointed in previous failures to get out of the division where we are long overdue some success, and similarly disappointed people don't see the damage people like McCabe has done since we dropped out of the PL with shit appointments, puzzling player floggings and odd acquisitions. I'll be very disappointed if, after all the shit the club and its fans have had to endure, season upon season, him and HRH don't fulfill their pledge and give us Game Changing Investments, so we can 'think Liverpool'.

As it were.

No. pommpey was suggesting that given McCabe had flogged players in the past the most likely was in fact Duffy as at that time, he'd shown some promise.

Enough for Bert?

You missed your reply Bert, don't be shy :)

You remind Bert of the bloke who rang Radio Sheffield a few years ago to complain about a referee after he'd listened to the match commentary.

He said it was the worst refereeing display he's ever heard on the radio.

Link to McCabe saying that? Please. :)

Bert's off, looking through the archives at other things he says pommpey says, usually out of context, but hey ... who cares?

That was very true, Bert did hear that on Radio Sheffield. It was probably pommpey.
