Scunny v Fleetwood

They've been very lucky in recent games, Northampton should have been 3 up at half-time at their place last week and Scunny's 'equaliser' yesterday for example. They will slip up soon, pleeeeeeeeease :(

I am quite chuffed for them tbh and they have just done us a huge favour dispatching Scunny. Bolton next and Millwall not too far away....let their good form continue I say. As long as we keep grinding out the points it won't matter in any case.

In beating Scunny, they've actually replaced them as our closest pursuer and are 2 points nearer so not really a huge favour in terms of the title but yes, it's in our own hands and we're better off than we were for promotion after yesterday's results.

Still doesn't make it any easier in these parts !

Regarding the title, then yes I agree but as much as I really want to win the league I would still take 2nd and I am struggling to see who else will catch 2nd now on current form. Promotion is a that matters in the end.

Fleetwood are on an incredible run and whilst not impossible, it's very unlikely they can sustain it or at least remain unbeaten. From their last 11 games, 6 wins 3 draws and 2 defeats would be around par. That would give them 85 points - the minimum I expect us to get is 88.

As far as 2nd place and promotion goes, the Millwall home game is massive. Beat them, and only Fleetwood could possibly finish above us, and 2nd place would be secured. Scunny and Bolton are finished now, Millwall could still do it but they have very little margin for error. Even a draw against them would be a good result.

I appreciate they're not in form but Bolton have a game in hand and if they win that and beat Fleetwood next weekend, they would be 2 points ahead of them.

Yes despite form Bolton are certainly still in the mix as are Scunny who are only 2pts behind Fleetwood. Makes you laugh how Bolton and Scunny have no chance of overtaking Fleetwood in some eyes but the same people think Fleetwood are certain to overtake us when 5pts behind. o_O:confused:o_O:confused:o_O:confused:

Yes the Millwall game is huge, I would also say the same about the Bradford game as well. They have found a bit of form all of a sudden, although granted they are still drawing a lot and their form is not as good as Millwall, I could still see them having a late surge for 2nd.

They'll end up having a dip at some point and they'll end up losing a daft one that no one would see coming, like Shrewsbury or Chessie or someone near the bottom..

That's what I keep telling myself but a voice inside my head keeps reminding of another team in 2011/12 whose unbeaten run never ended.

Go on then, name one person who thinks both those things.

I can see why folk are a bit nervous but I don't really get the comparison to the Pigs closing us down in 2012. When that happened we were in 2nd and always vulnerable to a blip. We are in a much healthier position now and in reality there is as much if not more pressure on Fleetwood staying 2nd with all of the teams still in spitting distance below them.

The stats are still with us on season and current form, all depends whether Fleetwood keep up this pesky run of theirs on the charge for the title.....

Season form:

Blades 91
Fleetwood 84
Bolton 81
Scunny 80
Millwall 76
Bradford 75

Last 8 form:

Fleetwood 89
Blades 87
Millwall 83
Bolton 75
Bradford 75
Scunny 69

Their run is nearer its end than its beginning.

Would anyone seriously be 'pissed off' at being promoted in second place?

After 6 years? After our first 4 games? Seriously? Some of you, as ever, need to control those jerky knees.
Southampton finished 2nd when they went up from this league. Worked out alright for them.

When the chasers become the chasees or the hunters the hunted
Things change ,teams start to feel pressure ,if Fleetwood dont start to show a few cracks soon then good luck to 'em

As for millwall ...fak awf !

I said a while ago that I can't see why people are so pre occupied by Milwall.

If they catch us we're gonna be in the play offs and I just can't see that happening.

They're 11 points behind us with 11 to play and a vastly inferior goal difference, it's just not going to happen.

to add to that, they have four at home and seven away so if we only win five more they will have to win nine from eleven to have any hope of passing us and with that split of games it's definitely not going to happen!!!

They're bloody Milwall not Munich

86 points will be enough, 17 from 11 needed.

It would take the gloss off if we lost the title to Fleetwood, but this season is all about getting out of this league.

I've watched Blades since mid 80s and never seen us win the League, we've had six years trying to get out of it and we're the best side in it. I'd be gutted if we fail to win the League. If we go on a dip then maybe that will change, but with Bolton and Scunny both apparently exploding, we should expect to win this League.

At the bookies £10 on Blades to win the league wins £1.25
£10 on Fleetwood to win the league wins. £120.00
Worth a punt??

Fleetwood haven't lost since November though, their current form is unsustainable.

Wednesday lost once in January and then three times in February.

8 of the last 11 games against bottom half sides (8 of the last 10, after Tuesday), including all the bottom 5.

Yeah, they're "fighting for the lives", but they're relatively shit clubs fighting for their lives, rather than relatively good ones fighting to go up. And, statistically, we've done far better v. the "lesser" sides than the better ones this season.

You'd have to think we can maintain the form of the first 35 games - which would lead to 6 wins, 3 draws, 2 losses from them last 11 games = 90 points.

That'd leave Fleetwood needing 26 points from their last 11 to match it = 8 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss. And a 6-goal goal-difference shortfall to reel in.
