Vast Chasm!

Pigs chanting the 'vast chasm' mantra is their one last straw to clutch as we chase them down in style, and their oh so boring shower of dung continue to falter.

There's a vast chasm financially between United and maybe a third of the division (Pigs included) as it stands, but with reasonable backing, we should be able to compete with or better the other two thirds especially with Wilder at the helm.

The big question for me is when or if the Prince will be true to his word and bring extra investors onboard so that we can compete at the top end, but I'll be happy with a top half next season and a double over the Pork. UTB.

So from the three teams who got relegated last season from this unbelievable Championship League they talk of, which ones if any are going to go back up from the apparent tinpot League One?

Only one side has any chance whatsoever and my guess is that side won't be playing Championship football next season.

Just a bit of advice I give from time to time and that is don't listen to a fucking word those deluded wankers say, and certainly don't go on their ludicrous and laughable message boards (the impression I get anyway), I find it helps!

Piggy mate of mine keeps going on about this and how we're gonna get battered every week and "mind the gap" and all that bollocks.
He soon shut up when I said it can't be that hard a league if your shower of shit can manage to get into 6th :)

I've watched Newcastle, Ipswich, Blackburn, Rotherham and Villa this season.

Newcastle would beat us but are promotion certs, we'd probably beat Rotherham but they're relegation certs. I'd like to think we'd do alright against the other three on the performances I've seen. It's impossible to say until we know who everyone signs though - prefer to concentrate on this season!

As for the 'gulf', certain players are way above, but not that many. Murphy looked really good for Brighton last night, but I doubt he's that much better than when he played for us.

Ok, I was wondering whether to post this at it is a bit anal but this is the perfect opportunity. An old colleague is still involved in football here, I'm not, and he uses software to analyse players speed, acceleration, movement etc. I persuaded him to compare one of our games with a championship game. I used Bristol Rovers away for us and last night's Brighton game. I used Brizzies as you need the playing area's dimensions. I don't know BDTBL's.

In brief, our players move just as much, as Brightons, on the whole. Our players are just as quick over 20 metres. Our players travel at over 50% of top speed a lot more than Brighton's players. There is very little fall away on intensity over the full 90 mins. Brighton's fell away, albeit slowly, over the last 15.

Our midfield is as mobile as B's, work rate is overall the same. Top speed is not too different. Newcastle were a few percentage points higher in every catagory.

We spent hours at this, playing with different parameters. We reckon we will not do too badly in the champs. He says 10 to sixth.

Finally who do you think is our quickest player?

Funny how they amuse themselves in between going on & on about their manager getting the sack, or how shit the football is at the Sty.

I wouldn't take much notice about quality from fans who haven't seen their side finish above 6th in the 2nd tier since the turn of the millennium.

If any of them genuinely think we will get battered every week then they will be at odds with the rest of the football world. If we go up, just see where the bookies think we will finish. It wont be in the bottom 3

I used to be bothered about what the pigs opinion was and about finishing higher than them in the league. As I've aged I've come to the opinion that their opinion means sod all and aiming to finish above them holds us back if anything.

I remember an article from a well respected source a couple of years back when both teams were in league 1 about why Sheffield didn't have a top flight team and why we'd underachieved over the years. It went on to demonstrate that every time we play in separate leagues the higher team generally went on to struggle, but the lower team would be trying their hardest to catch their main rival up. If we were in the same league then we'd both be pretty successful to a point because we didn't want to be outdone by the other. If we focus on them we'll only ever aim for their level.

These days I find it much easier to have conversations with pigs about football related matters. When they try and spout drivel I just nod and agree and leave them to it, questioned I agree they're entitled to their opinion. I wish them well and I talk about facts rather than hypothetical (nonsense) situations. That tends to leave em a bit stumped if I'm honest. It's much easier just supporting your own team than being dragged down by another one.

(edit: sorry I can't remember the well respected source to provide a link.)

Over how many yards?

I think we'll be lucky if we finish top half. We'll likely flirt with relegation, we'll probably be in the bottom 3 for periods, but I doubt we'll go back down. It all depends on how much - if any - extra financial backing we receive. If we get "game changing" investment then yeah, we should expect mid-table. We'll have to wait and see. To be fair to those Wendy fans saying there's a huge chasm, they're right. The gap between Championship and League 1 in terms of financial size and quality on the pitch is probably the biggest of any 2 of the top 5 divisions in English football. We'd struggle without wealthy owners. Luckily for us, we have HRH and McCabe. If they put their hand in their pockets, we should be fine.

Reading words of doom arrive by pig-post from the cobbled streets of S6 is risable. Of course there'll be an improvement in the quality of players and football, but it's about how we adjust to this perceived chasm? The quality of player, management, coaching staff etc, will determine how we do, not some six-fingered numpty writing in his/her lunch break from the call centre at Dewhursts the butchers.

Just chucked this together on my dinner, someone with more time feel free to finish it off for runners up and play off winners.
No evidence that (for winners at least) promoted teams are struggling nowadays more than previously.
Think we'll be reit

Edit: got info off wiki so watch for mistakes

There is a thread on North Korea Talk at the moment asking the question is it our fault they are not playing well! It is hilarious and according to them league 1 is the worse league in world football and the Championship is akin to the Champions league.

Do these idiots think we will not strengthen IF we go up? the thing that makes me laugh when people point out Barnsley to them is that it is totally different to Barnsley because they came up on the crest of a wave and kept it going!! I know it sounds stupid because of the money they have spent but I genuinely feel they are starting to get a bit twitchy about us coming up. Most of them are fearful of playing us because of the Wilder factor.

If you would have asked me last year or even the year before how we would do against them I would have expected a hammering, however with Wilder I just feel he would not allow that to happen to us. I say bring them on next year lets see how their £10m pound players go on when they come to BL.

They can spout, boast, brag and take the piss all they wish, but the few sensible pig posters won't be seeing that way

We have one thing they don't and that is CW

They mouth off about us coming up from the "pub league" and then getting hammered every week in La Liga, yet they don't factor in that should we win promotion, we will strengthen our squad. It seems to elude them somehow

Some people really clutching at straws there. I love the "they don't realise that the championship is a different beast" line they keep trotting out. As if the fans and everybody else at the club has been barred from seeing any Championship football for the past 6 years.

Yards, Mr Roygiv? We work in metres here. Can't be bottomed to wait this out.
Fleck was 100ths of seconds behind the winner who, based on one game, was Lafferty.

Players like Carruthers,Fleck,Moore,O'Connell,Wright will be fine in the Championship and if Wilder can find more relatively unknown (well to me they were) players next season I don't think we will have any problem competing.

Coutts will be in his element in the league above. Wright, I am genuinely sorry to say, not so.

I'd have said Lavery given Freeman wasn't playing that night - but then you stated top speed and it's easier for a wing back to get a head of steam than a forward over a shorter distance.
Riley is supposed to be quick - although he didn't look the quickest on the night, it was his full debut.
If only Lafferty could work out how to run at speed and deliver a decent cross at the end of it. Defensively he is solid.

"Can't be bottomed to wait this out" :D classic ;)

The style we are playing at the moment and the skill which we show whilst doing it are is always difficult to

Are forward passes in the Championship akin to an Indian spinners googly's then - and completely unpredictable?
Do we play with rugby balls instead of footballs?

Ok, I was wondering whether to post this...
How very DARE you get all objective with facts and data. We ALL know facts are defined by who shouts loudest.

I suspect the quality of the opposition would have a bearing on the figures. If we were playing against a team that is better, there'd be less scope for forwards running into space etc.
But we can only beat who we play against.

They cant handle the Warnock factor when they play Warnock teams, they have no chance against the Wilder factor. I cannot wait to the faces of my Wensday friends when they vastly underestimate us next season. especially when leeds knock them the fuck out of the playoffs! cannot wait

I'm sure we would be able to do as well as Barnsley have done and lets not forget they are only 8 points behind the pigs despite selling two of their best players, maybe the grunters are getting a little twitchy

I really, REALLY hope we get promoted cos, if they don't, what a WONDERFUL prospect......2 x Wilder inspired Derby matches! Blood and thunder has nothing on that scenario.
