So if and it is still a big if we get promoted are we going to be whipping boys in the championship? Listening to the nutters down the road the Championship is now on a par with la liga. I have just read this from a Wendy fan:

"The might be able to cut it in tinpot league but there is a vast chasm of class in between League 1 and The Championship. They will get annihilated on a weekly basis IF they manage to bridge the gap.
Would take huge investment on all fronts to get anywhere near the level they need to even survive this league."

So basically we are screwed there isn't a big gap between league 1 and Championship it is a "Vast Chasm". All sounds like scary stuff, in fact I actually think we should tell the league we don't want promotion because there in no chance at all we can compete with the massive clubs in the Championship.

It's just a pig spouting bollocks........of course we can compete (IF we get there).

A couple of my mates (one pig and one PNE) went to the match on Sat and their view was that we would be "comfortable" in the Champ.

We'll do as well if not better than Barnsley, should finish at least just above middle.

I know a few Wednesday fans and they are really panicking.
There is unrest at S6 because they are worried that normal service will be resumed and we will return to being the dominant force in Sheffield.

I've seen Wednesdays recent matches and the standard isn't that great.
Birmingham were like a good league 1 side and Leeds were strong but lacked creativity.
The entertainment factor has been poor too.

It's not that good Newcastle and Brighton will go straight down if they don't bring in quality.
We need 3 decent additions to hold our own in the Championship

In the first season in the Championship anywhere above the bottom three will do
I hope us fans don't expect too much and if things don't go well that we help achieve that.
That means we have to hope there are at least three worst teams. therefore i would be quite happy to see Fleetwood and Scunthorpe come up with us and Burton stay up.
Fleetwood won't keep their manager if they get promoted Burton and Scunthorpe are not attractive and find it difficult to attract the right callibre of players to fill a whole squad

From what I've seen of the Champ this season its nothing special apart from Newcastle and Brighton, i've seen the Pigs a few times and they've looked somewhere between bang average / poor.

I think we'd hold our own in the Championship with the addition of a few experienced Champ players, however we wont be able to compete wages / financially with the teams relegated from the PL, if they invest wisely and keep their current squad it would be hard for us to beat them, however the moral of a relegated team always comes into play, some roll over, some see it as a challenge to bounce back first time.

If we continue this season strongly and go up then the winning mentality is a tough one to break, new challenges ahead for the squad and individuals playing in a higher division when maybe they thought the chance had either gone or passed them by.

I'd predict a top 10 finish in our first season and it would be interesting to see who we sign and how much McCabe and the Prince back Wilder.

Its madness to be honest, I am not stupid enough to think it isn't a step up and we would definitely need to recruit. However I have watched a few games in the Championship and this bollocks about it suddenly being a super league is way off the mark. Out of the 3 teams relegate last year there is only one of them in the relegation zone.

Ricky I agree with Wilder in charge I am confident we will find a way to compete and believe me if we do play them parasites next season he will have them fired up for the derby game. I am not sure Carlos will be able to do the same!

I watched the top 2 teams in the Championship play each other (Brighton vs Newcastle) on the box last night and neither of them played anywhere near as good as we have recently. Add to that the pathetic game between promotion challengers (the Fowls and Leeds) last Saturday, I don't think that we have as much to fear as some people are predicting.

I was going to start a similar thread. Owlstalk is friggin hilarious right now.

They're in such denial about both this league and the one above... and they're looking for absolutely anything to make themselves feel better about our performance this season.

At the start of the season it was "They've appointed Wilder, they've got another season in League 1 to look forward to". Then the consensus changed to "they'll bottle it as they always do". Now it's "League 1 is the worst it's ever been. They're in for a shock at how the Championship has changed since they were last here".

Silly fuckers.

My biggest fear is holding on to our players next season. Once the likes of Moore, O'Connell, Coutts prove they're more than capable at Championship level, I worry the shit kicking PL clubs like Bournemouth and Burnley come knocking and we struggle to retain our best players..

Aye..I've seen it...

Players like Carruthers,Fleck,Moore,O'Connell,Wright will be fine in the Championship and if Wilder can find more relatively unknown (well to me they were) players next season I don't think we will have any problem competing.
Carruthers but not Coutts ??

There is a thread on North Korea Talk at the moment asking the question is it our fault they are not playing well! It is hilarious and according to them league 1 is the worse league in world football and the Championship is akin to the Champions league.

Do these idiots think we will not strengthen IF we go up? the thing that makes me laugh when people point out Barnsley to them is that it is totally different to Barnsley because they came up on the crest of a wave and kept it going!! I know it sounds stupid because of the money they have spent but I genuinely feel they are starting to get a bit twitchy about us coming up. Most of them are fearful of playing us because of the Wilder factor.

If you would have asked me last year or even the year before how we would do against them I would have expected a hammering, however with Wilder I just feel he would not allow that to happen to us. I say bring them on next year lets see how their £10m pound players go on when they come to BL.

I can't decide if I want those bastards to screw up in the play offs or miss out on them entirely. I think finishing outside the top 6 would be more demoralizing. If they go on a 'massive' slump they might even sack Carlos, which would be good news as I actually rate him as a manager. If Leeds go up and they don't, I wonder how many Pigsborough attendees will make the switch to Elland Rd next year?

We're not too bothered about attendances, but I bet a few of them are worried that our crowds will top theirs if we have a decent season in the Championship.

Presuming we go up, that is

We'll have the "Bounce" effect with us. If we win the league the feel good factor will be tremendous. We'll steal a march on the likes of Wendy, Leeds, Derby etc. They might be looking to replace their managers if they fail in play offs.

This side playing as it is now would not get relegated from the Championship. We wouldn't pull up any trees, but we wouldn't go down.

With recruitment, which we're obviously going to do, we'd be more than able to hold our own.

What I do want to see from United in relation to the rest of that division (if we go up) is sensible, sustainable signings which won't fuck us in the arse financially if things don't go according to plan. I can't imagine we'll see anything other than that from Wilder and the board (touch wood).

The standard of football in the second division doesn't blow my mind, but the money being thrown around does.

There is a gap - its a whole different league after all :p
What we need to do is get that little bit of extra quality that will punish teams for a mistake, and not allow ourselves to be punished for mistakes. Currently we seem to be scoring for fun. but actually look at the number of chances, we're squandering quite a lot of half chances - we'll have to increase the proportion of half chances converted. There's a guy on twitter ( https://twitter.com/experimental361 ) that does some interesting analysis. https://experimental361.com/2017/01/15/scatter-graphics-league-1-14-jan-2017/
That shows that when we allow a team a good chance, we tend to concede more easily than others. But we're not allowing many chances, so it looks all rosy. Is it that the midfield are preventing the defence being really tested? Suggests defence is where we need to strengthen.

Some ridiculous shouts on here.

We'll finish middle of the bottom half if we get up. IF WE GET UP.

sounds like some of the porkers are just a bit insecure on top of being typically dense.

a week barely passes where I'm thankful I wasn't brought up as one of them.

"Vast Chasm" is perhaps a slight exaggeration from our friends in S6, however, I'm under no illusion at the difference in pace, quality and style in the Championship.

One thing which has frustrated me over the last few years is the policy of recruiting with the Championship in mind. Yes we should do this to an extent, but priority in League 1 must always be for League 1. Finally we have a side capable of sustaining a promotion bid in this division and a manager savvy enough to get the best out of the players.

One thing is clear, next season we'll need to be far more clinical, stronger defensively (physically as well as tactically) and we'll need more pace.

There will be question marks over a number of players, but I think that if we do get promoted, targets will have already been identified.

What we really don't want to see is the manager recruiting far more players than he needs for one position, rather than strengthen where they need... the piggies are a prime example of this, spunking their load on strikers when they are crying out for better supply

The deluded lot in S6 have to also see the big picture. One decent season under Carlos and they think that they know how to win the league. They don't. I read a comment the other week from a piggy mate on FB "4 wins and we're still 6th. Proves how tough this league is"... I kept my powder dry and waited for the subsequent two defeats. I just said it was a long season and it's about consistency. This will be the biggest factor, so we'll also need a bigger squad
