Ok I 'think' its a safe bet that we will at least finish in the top six so you'll excuse me under these circumstances to ask this question, though of course none of us want to go down this avenue and I hope this thread does become redundant....

A lot can change over the last part of the season but I think its fair to say we could get two of:

Southend: W1 L2 D1 since 2015
Bradford: W2 D3 since 2014
Millwall: L3 since 2015
Rochdale: W3 L1 D1 since 2014
Peterborough: W3 L2 since 2015
Oxford: W1 from 2016
Bristol Rovers: W1 D1 from 2016
Walsall: W1, L2, D2 since 2015

Get past them and we'd likely face on of the following in the final:
Scunthorpe: W2, D3, L1 since 2015
Bolton: L1 in 2016, not including recent cup game as that was weakened side
Fleetwood: W1, D2, L2 since 2015

Looking at previous records isn't perfect but gives as indication of how we might perform against these possible opponents.

Out of all those we'd most likely prefer Rochdale and want to avoid Millwall like the plague on that basis. Obviously the higher up they are the harder the games but our records against nearly all of these sides are not impressive.

Add in the psychological factor of disappointment of just missing out on the top two, which we've suffered many times previously, then there is not much cause for optimism of our chances (despite the new regime) going into these potential matches.

The more I look at it and the more I shudder and hope we avoid this torture...

get to the final and choke... lets not think about this until we have to, a game at a time. Bolton next and see what happens in that match, best way to look at it one at a time and see where we are come the end of the season.

No I give up, I've read the post three times but can't find any mention of Ched Evans.

You've made that 'joke' almost every time I've made a thread since 2012, it was mildly amusing the first time but I think you should give it a rest unless you are fishing for like xd

I recall you said that we were going to relegated this season so perhaps you're not best placed to make predictions ;)

Good retort

We'll see how we do against Bolton.

Reality of the play offs is at least a couple of teams in it will be very close in terms of quality, and there's a huge amount of luck and variance over those games. We'd be the favourites, but we usually are...

"You've made that 'joke' almost every time I've made a thread since 2012"

Well there is such an obvious come back to that it's not even worth tapping the ball into the open goal.

Whichever of Ourselves Scunthorpe or Bolton miss automatic I am certain they will not win the playoffs.

Millwall will win the playoffs

Can't even consider anything but automatic. I know that there are variables, I appreciate the what if's or if only scenarios, but this is a different United. We have a gem of a management team, so the trust that had been previously lacking in the likes of Adkins is here in spades where Wilder's concerned, we also have a far more improved squad of players. Of course you can nit pick if that's your bag, but we're top of this division for a reason, so don't underestimate or undervalue the desire that runs through this team. Let's not allow the past to determine the present, this season we're more than good enough to be promoted to the Championship. UTB

Another thread so similar to the other??
Do work for radio Sheffield or the stir??

On the basis I can't predict whether or not we'll make the autos or the playoffs, how am I going to predict what we'd do if we only make the playoffs and I don't even know who the opposition is?

I'm complaining to the exam board about this, it's not even on the curriculum.

If we managed to get to the final the surface should suit our players more than any other side in the league.

as with all play off finals they are unique
no 2 can ever be alike
different squads different managers
preston fans could be forgiven for thinking theyd never make it , but they did
brentford took years

its not a giimme we will fail
too many think this way
records are there to be broken

but we can save this argument till next seasons championship play offs

We've got balls and quality now.

I think we'd win them.

Agree with you Ricky . The mentality of the club , directors , management , players have completely changed .

The sticking point is the fans , after being let down so many times . If not some silly fucker wouldn't have started a stupid thread like this .

We are going up automatic .

UTB

Think we need to do more than just be "satisfied" with draws if we really want one of the automatics.

Some of those "bizarre" starting elevens don't help either.

If we were to finish in the play offs which I don't envisage then something tells me this team would piss them.

Also I'm at my sisters wedding in Corfu so they're bound to do

What a load of old tosh .
I said it at the start of the season ,
said it during the blip ,
said it in the middle of the season ,
and I'll say it now , where going up as champions ,
we may not reach 100 points ,,we will be close to 100 goals though .
PMA . Positive Mental Attitude.
UTB , and fuck the playoffs .

My God
40,000 of us and Millwall at Wembley

Doesn't bear thinking about

Get to final

Final finishes 0-0

Extra Time finished 0-0

Simon Moore hits his pen out of Wembley stadium

We lose 8-7 on Pens.

OH WAIT WE ALREADY DONE THAT

So probably...

Get into semis

Lose

OH WAIT WE ALREADY DONE THAT TWICE

No one would know who to fight. Both sets of supporters would be thinking 'shall we fight amongst ourselves like we usually do?'

Probably a scrap in the Sheffield suburbs and Bermondsey between our own fans to warm up
Followed by a scrap at Leicester Forest, Watford Gap between our own fans on the way down
Followed by a scrap in and around the tube stations
Followed by multiple scraps all over London's pubs
Followed a mass brawl outside Wembley
Followed by fights breaking out in each end of the stadium between our own fans
Followed by a mass brawl outside Wembley
Followed by multiple scraps in London's pubs
Followed by a scrap at Leicester Forest, Watford Gap etc to celebrate the win, or to commiserate the defeat
Followed by a scrap in Sheffield with anybody who looks like a Wendy

It'll be a proper day out for some

What are these playoffs of which you speak?

Never heard of em.
