Thank you for the preview Greville, looking forward to reading the whole book

I wrote to Sir Ooh Aah when he had left us after the Pigs game,he sent me a signed picture of himself stood arms aloft in front of the Shoreham, bless him

My memory is a little sketchy but I seem to remember him filling in for Brian Deane against West Brom. It was a night match at the Lane and Bassett stuck him up front. Man of the match performance, in fact one of the best performances of any blades I've seen. Bassett took him off with about 5 minutes to go. I still to this day don't think I've ever seen a standing ovation quite like that one.

Rings a bell that.

I had the tremendous pleasure of spending some time in the company of 'Sir Bob' when he was invited to play in an ex-pro veteran team representing Sheffield FC in a 7 a side tournament in Hong Kong in 2007. I have to say that he is a wonderful, genuine, down to earth bloke, who clearly loved his football, especially his time in Sheffield. I'll try and dig out some photos and send them on.
Quiz question. Name the 5 ex-Blade players and 1 current SUFC employee in this line-up. Bonus if you can name the other 3 ex- pros.

A word for Simon Webster, people thought Bassett had lost his marbles playing him in midfield, tailor made for our midfield and playing style of the day,the game v Newcastle in the League Cup he was outstanding

Yes, I take back my original statement! I was at Mansfield (front row, snow on my knees, and I bought a match programme which was filled with blank pages!), and Sir Bob's attitude shone through that day. Even my dad, who really didn't take well to Booker at first, mentioned how vital he was that day.

Still only ever had one picture taken with a player.

What's this about a nickname? "Blinders!" ??
Sorry - mis-keyed Blunders

Don't know where it came from but certainly heard him being called Bobby Blunders or just Blunders on the kop for a good while.

Don't know how far and wide it ran - I was 14-15 and so I only heard what was in my part of the ground and school as I wasn't in the pubs yet.

By the time we were pushing for the first division he was definitely "sir Bob" or just plain "ooh-aah".

Interesting photo - that was taken at Hong Kong Football Club. I think that lot must have been playing in the veteran's section of the Hong Kong sevens, possibly representing Sheffield FC.

Spot on Rev. It was in 2007. Still one ex Blade player and two others to be named. The others, one played for Wendy and the other played in a FA Cup semi for another local team.

So disrespectful
The guy scored crucial goals at tge top level and to get us there

To say he wasnt much kop at football is pinchyesque bullshit
Bob was a better player than most people gave him credit for it was the way he was asked to play by bassett that made him look akward same as John Gannon who was made to look ordinary but was a very good player under kendall

Sounds like I have picked the perfect guy to write about. He is a delight to talk to. No ego, just a lovely man with time for everybody.

Please keep the stories and memories coming. I will be in touch with people at the club too.

Hope the book is worthy of the man and that you all want to buy it next year! I am sure that there will be some events and dinners to promote it.

Many thanks, once again.

PS I am afraid we do claim Bob as a Bee too as he gave everything for the shirt at Griffin Park for 10 years or so!

Hope Jack O'Connell does well for you. He is a really good prospect who just needs games. Any idea how much you paid for him?

"He was six foot tall, cost fuck all, say Ooo Ahhh Bob Booka say Ooo ahh Bob Booka " !!

Chris Beaumont of Chesterfield and Stockport.
Good spot BB. Just got the Wendy player and the other ex-Blade to get. Some clues: the Wendy player was probably better known playing for QPR.
The Blades player scored one league goal for us, the winner against Leeds.

Andy Sinton?
Lee Walshaw?

I've been through my back issues of Flashing Blade covering Booker's period with us and, sadly, I am missing a few. If any of you have issues 1, 2, 7, 10, 12, 14, 16, would you be able to have a look through for Bob Booker stuff, scan it, and email it over to Greville Waterman?

I have a few things about Booker from the issues I do have.

Was the song:
Bobby B, Bobby B
Bobby B has got VD
And when he scores you can smell his drawers
Bobby Bobby B

....ever actually sung at a game or was it just made up by my mate?

I have all the programmes from his first 3 seasons but is there are a farewell article about him in a programme in Nov 1991 that somebody could possibly email me please.

Many thanks.

Well done Fred. That's the lot. Nice chap actually.

I have learned something today. I remember the Pigs' spell in the second tier in 2000-2003 pretty well, but I was unaware that Danny Maddix had played 50 odd games for them in that period. Why this escaped my attention I don't know.

Danny Maddix's partner in centre defence in the 2000-01 season was Danny Westwood and Wendy fans nicknamed them Vivienne and Ruth!

Where did I get the name Danny from?

From glen to glen and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling.
It's you, It's you, must go, and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow.
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow.
I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny Boy, oh Danny Boy, I love you so.

But if you come, and all the flowers are dying,
And I am dead, as dead I well may be.
You'll come and find the place where I am lying.
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I will know, tho' soft ye tread above me
And then my grave will richer, sweeter be.
And you'll bend down and tell me that you love me
And I will rest in peace until you come to me.
