Mike, fucking bastard, Dean?
You're shitting me?

To be fair, Dean has refereed us many times. We haven’t lost a game he has refereed for nearly 8 years (OK it’s only 3 games). And we have in total only lost a handful of games he’s reffed (5?) in 19 years, we have won / drawn many more.
Unfortunately he will always be associated with 2 games in 2008/09. The 1-0 loss to Wednesday when he wrongly sent Killa off and the 1-0 loss to Burnley in the play off final when he failed to give the stone wall penalty on Walker. However, we didn’t deserve to beat Burnley and I squarely put the blame on Blackwell for his nonsensical criticism of Dean before the game. He did also ref the fateful 2-1 defeat to Wigan. You could argue he missed the push on Jags for the penalty but given most people needed a video replay to see that I don’t blame him for defeat that day either.
Let’s hope he has a decent game.

We've won / drawn more games he's reffed than lost.So apart form 3 major decisions he's got wrong in 3 massive games, all of which we lost, he's ok? Even leaving aside the decisions, he's hardly a good omen!

Sheffield United 2 Liverpool 1 - is that a bad omen as well ?
Yes, that was a terrible decision but maybe not as bad as the decision to let Mooney take the resultant free kickAlan Wiley in the second leg not sending of Kirkland for handball was much worse.
Totally agree - maybe a bit of reverse psychology might work, a friendly chant, a round of applause, instead of the universal "TWAT".....We all know our history with Mike Dean, but funnily enough, after O'Connell got pushed in the back on Saturday for what should have been a penalty, a few of us in the South were saying that we could really have done with having Mike Dean refereeing against a side as cynical as Scunthorpe. Dean is one of very few referees who are brave enough to give those decisions.
Given that Bolton have got a few dirty planks in their side, Dean may (without wanting to tempt fate) be precisely the referee that we need on Saturday. If we had another one as weak as Jones, we'd more than likely get bullied and end up with half the side missing for the next match through injury.
And sending Jamie Ward off at Wembley, for deliberate handball, iirc. To be fair, Dean has refereed us many times. We haven’t lost a game he has refereed for nearly 8 years (OK it’s only 3 games). Found this on some Rate the Ref website, zeta boards - seems pretty legit unfortunately:
Sheffield United FC (First Team) v Bolton Wanderers FC (First Team)
Football League 1
Referee: Dean, Michael
Assistant Referee: Lennard, Harry
Assistant Referee: McDonough, Michael
Fourth Official: Stockbridge, Sebastian
Mike 'look at me, look at me, ignore the big game, I'm the star of the show me, yes me, look at me' Dean?
Joint equal biggest cunt going as far as referees go, and he has stiff competition. As for who he holds that fine distinction with? Well it's probably a toss up between him and Darren Deadman on who I'd least want reffing Saturday's game.
All the stats sites say Kevin Friend reffed that game but I have a vague recollection there was a late ref change. I can't remember whether Dean was replaced or stepped in but the records say he didn't ref it.Coventry away at Northampton 2013 lost 3-2
Maybe it's a different Michael Dean...?
