I would like to thank your club for allowing us to have Ben on loan for the rest of the season, he certainly has a bright future in the game. His work rate and contribution to the team is second to none. Been one of the singings of the season for us and he can only get better. Also best of luck in your promotion push.

Hopefully we will both go up, then you have him on a season long loan next season ;)

Always liked him, good range of passing, eye for a goal, but he`s took to league football like a duck to water.

Looks like he is playing some good stuff and getting better, I would think next year we will look to loan him out again, more than likely to you guys for the season, the more he plays the better he gets can only be good for us and him, very bright future in the game.

Hopefully, still a long way to go. With our manager he can develop him loads.

He has been for us the best midfielder we've had in a few years, that just speaks volumes for the guy. Does you know how long he is contracted for pal ?

No, he signed a pro deal, but I can`t recall if the length of contract was ever reported.

Just asked a mate the same question, and he reckons up to the end of next season.

After the few appearances we saw of Whiteman last season, I personally thought he'd have been good enough to fight for a first team spot for us. That hasn't happened but he's gone out on loan and playing outstanding for Mansfield. Can't wait for him to be recalled, exceptional talent.

Cheers, great to hear he's getting the games in and doing so well for you.

Nice words about Ben and thanks for wishing us good luck with promotion. However, as much as I would like to wish the same to you, just I cant do it, not while you have that fat, loud mouthed manager Steve Evans in charge of your club. He's got to be the manager I hate most out of all 92 teams. Nothing personal, but Blades fans hate him from his time as Rotherham manager.

Ideally we'll give him a long term contract, because I really don't think it's any risk at all with him when you consider the attitude and ability he has. Then have a look at him in pre season. I'd give him every chance of being involved for us from the start, but it would be good to send him to a L1 club for 6 months, ideally Mansfield if they're promoted. That would develop him nicely, then we could recall him. I definitely think he's got a first team future here unless we lose him.

As far as I can see, him and Brooks are out of contract but I'd really like some clarity here because it's a big deal for us.

Well i for one DO wish you well in your promotion push. Supporters have no say in who gets the managers job, so good luck from me.Mansfield are a good club who we have come across a few times over the years and deserve a bit of success after many lean years. Good luck Mark.

How you can hate Steve Evans more than Ainsworth is way beyond me Higgo .

Great to hear he's doing so well, I expect our guys will be keeping close tabs with a view to seeing how well he fits into our squad in the summer.

How old is he now?

Thanks pal we just want to play at a higher league and be successful for a change. We also have another ex Blade player in CJ Hamilton who has come on a lot since he been with us.

'Blades Fans'? Speak for yourself. I couldn't give a shit about the Millers.

Neither could I, but I do dislike the nasty little fatman with a ban from the game for cheating. As the OP said, one of the ,most detestable managers around at the moment, Ainsworth aside of course.

It's not the point I'm making though. I'll decide who I like and dislike, I don't need anyone making shitty comments on my behalf.
The OP (meaning Opening Poster) came on here to thank us for loaning BW to them and to say what a good player he is.

If someone wants to reply by making churlish comments about their manager, that's up to them, but don't intimate we all think like that or try to speak on my behalf.

That's all.

Whoa hoo there, just hold on. This 'I know my own mind' crap might be all right in some circles but not on here. There is a well established heritage of groupthink that among over things covers:

Simmo's penalty is still in outer space
Only transfer fees count (the money tree covers wages)
Billy Sharp doesn't do enough work
McCabe lines his own pockets
Jags deliberately gave away a penalty to leave the club
etc etc etc

Any departure from the above is heresy!

You'll be telling us next that the world isn't flat....

Good words from Markstag

But I'm hoping Mansfield go back into the non league
because we can no longer say "Bramall Lane is the oldest pro football stadium in the world"

Mansfield's Field Mill staged its first football match in 1861
Bramall Lane staged its first football match in 1862.

So whilst Mansfield are in league football we go back to being "Bramall Lane- the oldest major football stadium in the world".

.....Only kidding Mark, the Stags have been in the wilderness for a few years so it's good for your long suffering fans to finally have a chance of some success.

This thread does make me smile a little.

I am sure Young Whiteman has had various posts aimed at him for not being up to the job. All of a sudden he has been given a proper chance to show his worth and bingo..........
This is my issue a little that if a player is not quite ready at 20 years old a substantial following seem to think they are not good enough and not going to be good enough.
Players take all different amounts of time to be ready to play first team football consistently week in week out.

This is EELs first proper season in a first team week in week out and he is 23/24 years old.

Lets hope that we get promotion this season and we have the money to develop our young players for as long as it takes to get them ready for our own first team.

How you can hate Steve Evans more than Ainsworth is way beyond me Higgo .

Correct, nothing against Mansfield but for me Evans is a Gobshite who looks like he should be driving the Coach, not managing the team.

Ainsworth is much much worse, a Bastard of the first order. Evans is a saint next to him.

Hopefully, still a long way to go. With our manager he can develop him loads.

You scouting out how much you'd have to pay for him Mark, checking contract lengths? If he has as much potential as our usual youth graduates you're going to have to join the auction with other lightweights such as Bournemouth, Everton and Spurs.

Do you rate CJ then? I seem to remember he was pretty quick with quick feet but could be a “headless chicken” and make poor decisions from the bits I saw and reports I read. Do you see him that way?

'Blades Fans'? Speak for yourself. I couldn't give a shit about the Millers.

I don’t think he meant because he managed the Millers. I think he meant because he acted like a prize twat when our kids beat them when NC was in charge in 2014.

For what it’s worth, I think Steve Evans is a right nob but also a decent manager. Most football fans I speak to seem to have similar opinions though there is the odd one that likes him.

No reflection on my sentiments to the OP though. I appreciate him taking the time to tell us how young Ben is getting on wishing us luck. I reciprocate that wish despite my feelings about Evans. After all, them doing well is likely to correlate with Ben Whiteman doing well.

I don't recall anyone saying he's not ready. I think, apart from Southend when he was played out of position, he's looked quite promising. He's been on the fringes but due to our outstanding midfield his chances have been very limited.

I do believe that if players aren't anywhere near a L1 first team by 20 they're not that likely to ever play at a higher level but there are obvious exceptions to that, and defenders and keepers tend to be a bit later than attackers.

I think the club feels that way too, which is why we've got so many young 'uns in the u23s. It's not about being a first team regular but doing enough to look like you could be one so the manager will at least consider you. Then, as many pros will say, you need a little bit of luck.

I know the above is largely tongue in cheek but I don’t think one item of that list is believed to be true by even half the population of this board. I suppose you could do a poll for each one asking everyone if they believe those statements to be true. But I don't think this fabled "group think" really exists on here. There's plenty of contrasting opinions on pretty much every subject. I very rarely see one person arguing the toss against the entire board (except, maybe occasionally Barney or blade too long whilst trying to defend something they've said that was rather silly.

Again though, I don't need representation and I don't want to be associated with the comments made.
