Well i'm off for a pint so this is mi last post tonight.

The owd Leeds argument don't wash wi me, my opinion is football is moving fast stand still and yer going backwards have a half baked attempt at it and yer may as well not bother.
This season is shit or bust, last of the parachute money and all that have a proper go at it PLEASE.

Struggled to read that properly.

Saying we spend big this season and it doesn't go to plan? What happens next? I don't want us to struggle for money because we were stupid with it the season before. I would love for us to spend big and go up, but is the risk worth it if it backfires? Yes if we do go up and get all the money from the premiership. No if it doesn't work and we lose out on ALOT of money.

Well thats your opinion and yer entitled to it.
Not for me though !

Think I'd have to agree with Ross mate. I see where you're coming from too, but I'd rather us be stable than throw too much at it, not make it and then see us go down the shitter.

We'll spend a few bob this summer, but I don't think we'll put ourselves in a position to go bust.

but I don't think we'll put ourselves in a position to go bust.

I wouldn't want that, have a look at the trading figures of SUFC, continue as it is and the debt just grows, somat needs to be done (hence McCabes actions). Apart from the financial aspect i don't think most Blades want to see us just 'making up the numbers' the best supported team in the Championship deserve better.

Failure to see a committed investment in QUALITY players this close season will see the Blades mid table at best. The lack of pace in the team is a big concern to me.

I'm much more interested in what Blackie was saying about only buying quality and making sure he has the specialist in place for each position. Looking at how we finished last season, I would suggest that it will only take the acquisition of two or three players to make us real contenders next season and I get the feel that Blackie thinks the same.

No club cannot be called a selling club and every player has his price. Status means as much as money for a great many players, and as far as Cahill was concerned, Bolton offered Premiership and we didn't, naff all to do with finance, or how big the club is, or the support!! We fish for players in the same pool as a good few clubs, some perceived as bigger others smaller. Dabble in the pool with fish that need more food than we can supply and we will quickly be in trouble. Ask the grunters who all thought the acquisition of Waddle, Carbone, Di Canio, Yonk, Sinton et al showed real ambition and commitment. When it went tits up and the relegation happened, then the 'buy big now, pay later' philosophy, with the consequences of offering the contracts that would induce these players to the piggery rather than elsewhere, really hit the fan!! In the words of Gordon, prudence every time for me!
I'll reserve judgement on things until later, we haven't even reached 1st July yet!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record by continual references to Cotterill....better news today in the Star that negotiations seem to be underway again with a possible season-long loan if we can't agree the fee.

Hahaha... Cotterill is the only name we can really talk about at the moment anyway... seeing as we're not really linked to anyone else :)

A season-long loan would be better than nothing I suppose.

I agree, i blow cotterills trumpet alot i know, but i do think he would be a great asset to out promotion push, fast, skillfull, knows how to cross, and runs at defenders, everything keef isnt

first man anyone? :p

Yep I would snatch their arms off, so long as we had a solid agreement to be able to purchase him at the same sort of price at the end of the season if we wanted to.

I'd go for the loan anyway, regardless of whether we had a buying clause in there. There's nothing to say there won't be better players around in 12 months time and there's nothing to say he will show more consistency than he did last year.

All this talk about him and people seem to be forgetting that he could be very hit and miss last season.

When he was good he was good, but when he was bad he went missing.

Take your point, but at the sort of level we can realistically expect to sign players he is better than most. We definitely need someone to play that role of worrying full backs and putting the ball in the box, keef isn't going to do that very often anymore.

true but i thought most of the time he was good, more towards the beggining when he wasnt as good, probably a confidence issue

Just spoke to a Wiganer on another message board and she said this

Wiganer said:
I personally would like to keep him, he's never really been given a chance to be perfectly honest but i think he's got potential.

He never played right wing for us, he was always brought on up front and to be honest he'd never get a game right wing.

He'll be a cracking signing for you and £2 mil is about right.

Also has probably the best/funniest middle name in football!
