Will Hanson be our Lambert/Holt ??

I think the point was that at the time Saints signed Lambert, he had only played non-league and lower league all his career before spearheading them to back to back promotions. But Hanson is not the same kind of player. He's a foil for others to thrive whereas Lambert has always been a goalscorer.
Lambert was a lot younger though. Before going to Saints I saw him in the FA Cup against some championship (or possibly PL club) and it was clear he had the ability to play at a higher level. I could never understand why Blackwell didn't sign him as cover for Darius Henderson. Our play was so dependent on having a big man up front. We were in a higher league than Southampton and much nearer home for him so I'm sure he'd have preferred to join us at the time.
But we signed Ched instead.

he's only 18 months older now than Lambert was when he signed for Southampton. Also, he only turned pro at 22 and players who turn pro late tend to play a little longer
I didn't realise Lambert was that old but you're right, he'd been playing for nine years when he signed for Saints!

No he wasn't much younger, he was a bit younger. I do hate posters who post shit without checking their facts. Twat.

Higdon had a good debut and Sammon scored a brace early on. He could be exactly what we need or just another long list of donkeys weve had upfront in this league. Lets hope its the former.

If it was then I stand corrected (it is a while since I read the book and my memory isn't that great) but I was sure it was the greasy haired wife beater! o_O
It might have been both but I'm fairly sure it was said about Henderson.

I just did a quick Google search and you're right about it being Henderson relating to his 'gait' and potential injury and he rejected Carroll because of his mobility:
Quote:
"...the gait of Jordan Henderson raises concerns about his long-term fitness, and Andy Carroll's poor mobility limits his effectiveness..."

Said it before and i'll say it again..........i fully understand the Hanson signing!!

Like many I was dubious about this signing but full credit to Wilder he's made a huge impact in just two games. Today's assist was worth two valuable points.
Great assist for a great winning goal today

Hanson has done more in 2 games than Clarke has all season. Will say it again, Clarke is a waste of a good wage.

Hanson looks a proper handful. A big lad that can actually head a ball. CW does not hang about if an original signing does not quite work.

Yes.

He was immense today against a decent defence, worked very hard and caused all kind of problems.

Wants it ;)

Our very own version of Keegan and Toshack for instinct and knowing where each other are.

Hanson and Sharp will create and score goals between them. Two experienced players who have excellent chemistry, watch those goals flow.
Could not agree more pal..... CW always talks of short, medium and long term. Are our own Keegan & Toshack going to be able to do it in the Championship? I truly hope they can.

First of all I want to say I was massively impressed with Hanson's debut. He won the majority of his battles, was a nuisance for the opposition defence and grabbed himself a well earned goal.

What I am wondering is can this player have the same impact for us that Rickie Lambert had for Southampton and Grant Holt had for Norwich. The signing has similarities - all are physically big players, only had lower league success, were making a move to the big favourite in the division and had good goal scoring records at the club they were leaving.

Holt & Lambert played a massive part in helping their clubs earn back to back promotions, they both proved their quality in the Championship and beyond.

Very early days I know.. but if first impressions are anything to go by then maybe Hanson could turn out to be our very own version and a shrewd bit of business.

Yes.

I loved the way Billy went and jumped all over Hanson after he scored. There was real chemistry there - which means Hanson will aim for Billy rather than goal again next time as well. I think Toshack and Keegan is really good comparison. Toshack got as much pleasure out of his assists for Keegan as he did for his own goals.

Maybe Fleck is our Souness as well - hard, positive Scottish midfielder - only less grumpy!
