The league this year has all the makings of an extremely tough competition. I trust those holding the purse strings see the same as us.

I assume signings will be made as the pre-season looks to kick off in about a month's time.

I wouldn't mind a few nice signings myself... but i'm also fairly confident (usual pre-season optimism) that Blackie can continue to get performances out of what is a decent squad.

I want to make signings in the obvious areas, but i'm glad Blackie is taking the sensible approach rather than splashing the cash on owt we can get and having a mass clearout of the first team.

We need to sign Cotterill. If it costs us £2M we need to bite the bullet and pay it even if it is paying slightly over the odds. It was great to see a genuine winger in the red&white stripes and I shall be very disappointed if we don't sign him.

mate i agree with the pace and quality, but you are quite contradictive as you stated on another thread that you dont want cotterrill and the kidder has both, you need to make your mind up , i would love us to sign cotteril but as the days go on, it looks more unlikely

i would hardley say light weight, he doesnt girl out of tackes, from what i saw he got stuck in, given, due to his attacking mind, when it comes to defending we he will leave a gap, however i think to progress in this league we will need pace, and martin will bring this

On topic:

We do need some quality added but it was proved at the end of last season that the players we already have can do it so there is no need to rush in.
Cotterill is something we've lacked for a while now, pace and skill down the wing. I can admit I didn't like him at first but he grew on me.

He has used the word Quality a lot, but this thread is a pretty valid one, he's expressed an opinion with the interest of at the very least gaining responses/debate. It's not just a repeat of the same old, even if it is on a similar subject.

Again, i'm going on this instance, but he's been back and continued the debate by responding to me so far. Fair enough he has in the past ducked away from questions, but thats something many are currently guilty of. He's unlikely to respond in anything but a petty arguement/none committed way if people jump on his back (regarding previous posts) every time he makes a post... e.g. he makes a post not mentioning ambition, then someone comes along to throw that one at him.

Our Gert must be a contender £15000 a week 3 year contract and she'll be at BDTBL faster than a jack rabbit.

On a serious note if KB and the scouting team at BDTBL can't identify someone and attract them to BDTBL what makes you think i can ?

Oh and let me say this AMBITION and QUALITY are metioned by me because i believe with passion this is what the Blades lack, how many times we heard from SUFC: we tried for one or two but for one reason or another bollox or we tried to keep him but bollox.

QUALITY attracts QUALITY show some AMBITION and players will want to come and play for the Blades great stadium the best fans, BDTBL rocking yer can't beat it.

Cahill was a very good player - but the fact is that we couldn't compete with Bolton for money, by this I mean wages. You have to think about what happens if things don't go to plan. Now you'll most probably mention the ambition word again but you can't throw money around unless your one of the big four.

Allthough it is a shame we havn't got him, Cahill is gone and has been for a while so there really is no need to mention him.

In the world of football - money is supreme. Anybody who disagree's should take a look at most leagues in the world.

Bolton had/have more money at their disposal than us. That's all there is to say about that.

We've already got a proven quality premiership player in Beattie who could help with attracting other quality players.

I believe Cotteril is a quality player (albeit my initial view on him) and i'll take my opinion on him aswell as most other united fans who's seen him play for half a season than say a plymouth argyle fan's view on Halmosi when I havn't personally seen him much myself.

I really wish we could splash out on a players for 4million at a time, it would be great, but the harsh reality is is that if things don't go the way they are meant to then that "splashing" out can come back and hit you hard in the face! Just look at how Leeds have ended up. They did exactly what you want us to do and it messed their whole club up. (even worse than what it already was..lol)

Good analogy Butch and i understand if yer skint yer skint end of however as you mentioned an F50 it takes me back to when i bought a garage in the late 80's i was nearley skint and needed to buy second hand car stock (the new ones were OK because we had paid a bond to Ford so got them free and paid Ford when we sold em) i was competing with the main dealers TC Harrison and so on at the time. Now i could have said i can't compete with the 'big boys' i may as well through the towell in. But instead of playing a round of golf before going to the auction i arrived early very early having a good look around, seeing what was happening , making contacts chatting to the auction staff and so on, then staying at the auction late well after the 'big boys' had gone. Slowly and very slowly i got buying a few cars at the reight price after a couple of years money wasn't as big a problem the contacts i had made got looked after and i could compete with the 'big boys'.You won't win em all but you'll win some.

The potential the Blades have is massive see us with some QUALITY & AMBITION extend BDTBL and 40000 crowds no problem, some Premiership teams will never have that.

If we are going to fix the central mid-field we are going to have to splash 4M pounds on someone - in addition we need some pace on the wing. Martin and Cotterill will do, or anybody else in that 1M -2M pound range (I don't know who cause I get to see so few games). Shelton and Stead were a good pairing for us in the cup cause they did have pace, but we never had it consistently on the wings. When we do Beattie and Hulse can be a real threat. Think we will have to wait until mid-July before we get any hints. Again, the current squad does not have the pace we need to succeed. We buy quality or sit mid-table, that's the choice.

Apparently Hull City have been quoted £3M for Halmosi and they say they can't/won't pay that much. Suspect they will be sniffing round for cheaper options. Hopefully the fact we substituted Coterill at half time in the Hull game means they didn't notice him otherwise this could be another great potential signing down the drain just because we weren't prepared to pay the going rate.
