To us a hero , but what do you reckon other supporters thought of his blowing kisses to the crowd after skinning one of the opposing teams players?
Ross Barkley raised his arms in the air celebrating even before putting the ball in the net on Saturday. Ian Wright thought it was great to see but would he have thought the same if it had been Arsenal that Ross had done it to?

Personally would have loved it had he missed as that would have been really entertaining!
As for the hero or villain thing, Bremner at dirty Leeds sticks out to me as a total hero at Leeds but despised everywhere else and for different reasons as most on here will know. (A vile dirty bastard for our younger fans).

So hero or villain? What other players stand out? Maybe it's the other way round for some, as seeing a player being a villain at their own club then becoming a hero at another club after moving on......over to you.

I wasn't a Blade when Tony Currie was playing :( but I used to come to the Lane sometimes just to watch him. It seemed that every time I came, at some point he would drop a great pass into Woody's path and a goal would follow just as night-time follows the daylight. He was a fantastic entertainer and I have always said, since the 1970s, when my lad and his friends asked me, that he is the best player I have ever seen.

Things must be back on track with a post like this , instead of slagging the board , individual players .

What a post . Hero . Who cares a flying fuck what other fans thought or think .

He did play for Leeds though .

Lazy

Might be my failing memory or rose tinted specs but...... didn't Sir Keith salute The Kop before he finished off his "Pele goal" ....... versus Bristol Rovers possibly ?.
Anyway, many pundits today claim it's an "entertainment business" thus justifying the high wages. Personally I have no problem with it but if you do it in front of the oppositions fans then accept the inevitable grief.

In answer to the original question , hero.

yes , players should be allowed to celebrate

when forest scored first in the play off semi and their player rubbed it in its what made peschs celebration more special

its part and parcel
alan ball sitting on a ball here , made Curries reciprocation of it more poignant

and the winning goal at west ham celebration in the league cup
moment to savour , villain no just enjoying the moment

When its our player we love it when its an opposing player we hate it but we should have more of it, all adds to the atmosphere, I remember Cantona scoring a goal in front of the kop at the Lane, he had been given some right abuse before so he turned round and looked at us all on the kop, put his hands on his hips and shoved his chest out, no over the top stuff, he stood there like a gladiator, I thpught what a brilliant response, shut us all up for a second.

Ross Barkley .

I've always dreamt of doing that. Against those from the sty. Going round the keeper, putting my foot on the ball when its on the line, and saluting the crowd. Then back-heeling it in. Lets hope Billy can do something similar next season. But only when we are already 2 goals up...

I remember that celebration, thought the same as you. Just have to take your hat off to him, fair play. And yeah, he had been getting dogs abuse.

I wasn't too old back then, a lot of those games merge into one - we seemed to Play Man Utd every season in the cup during the 90s! The best one was when Hoyland and Hodges turned it around after an early goal (Giggs I think). Bruce hit the post from the spot!

Might be a leg-end but he's a miserable old twat!

I thought it was at the Bramall Lane end but I could be wrong. It was a long time ago but I think he did raise his hand when he knew it was going into the empty net.

Won't be popular for saying this but knowing someone who used to live very close to TC for quite a while, he wasn't always a hero off the pitch.

Doesn't have to be a hero off the pitch amd he may be a miserable, cantankerous old sod but, he is our cantankerous, wonderful, magical, skilled and talented, old sod! In Tony Currie, the Legend lives on.

That the time we lost 2-0 at home? Cantona scored that wonderful lob. He was being booed because Charlie Hartfield got sent off for punching him.

Whilst I kinds get your angle on these things, I can't let the 'vile dirty bastard' description of Billy Brenner go unchallenged.
Leeds he may have been, competitive, combative, uncompromising, feisty he may have been. But vile dirty bastard? A tad ott in my opinion.
He was one of the finest midfielders of that era and combined the qualities I list above with a liberal dose of skill and a great engine too.
He never played too well at the Lane strangely enough but I'd not have turned my nose up at him playing for sufc in those times.
Apparently a quiet unassuming and very private bloke off the field too.

Totally disagree mate. Trying to be the 2 foot hard guy and spouting shite all the game. Horrible little man!
