Ex-Tottenham, Brentford,Swindon midfielder; now unattached.

One of the players to catch my eye since we dropped to league1.

Played for Brentford a couple of years ago on Morgan's big night as manager. He was excellent that night, had a bit of a swagger for a young'un and I've followed him a bit since.

I'll start a rumour: Reeves to replace McGinn next week. Cheap too.

Another to register on my "proper player scale" - Lauri Dalle Valle who took us apart playing for Crewe a couple of years ago. Just re-signed by Crewe for peanuts having lost his way.

Another, Baker of Coventry went to MKD the other week.

Reeves has signed for Wimbledon today. Good player.

.

Have you been drinking in this thread?

Let me see, 2.11pm, maybe a pint of fresh orange, four cups of tea and my max of two coffees.

If you think it's a poor thread then fair enough, but you've posted twice on it, think that one through. Nothing better to do maybe?

Do you know any good players you might suggest? I'd be interested but make sure they are affordable at our level. There are plenty around.

This is my 1001st post so make allowances, I'm only a novice compared to you Matt.

I wasn't having a go. It all just seampt a bit random.

I have no idea if you had heard a rumour that Reeves was signing or if you were suggesting him to be a good player.

Then to add further randomness name Dalle Valle who I admit to knowing very little about and Baker who signed for MK Dons months ago.

I am genuinely puzzled by the whole thread... Hence the reason I asked on Tuesday if it was a rumour or suggestion, although that went unanswered.

As I said in the OP, I wanted to start a "rumour". Not often you see players in league 1 who stand out and become available for peanuts. The three I mentioned were all available recently and yet we struggle to find "value" in our manager's eyes.

Reeves is a ypung industrious ballwinner who has presence and knits it all together. Valle is a quality striker. Baker is the best attacking winger I've seen in the division.

I'm extremely worried about our scouting and thought I'd make some suggestions just to show it's possible.

With hindsight the OP was a complete waste of time, you are right.

I think you are maybe being a tad harsh on the scouting network. Reeves isn't a player "we need" right now as we are overrun with central midfielders.

Baker nearly signed for us last season unless I'm mistaken, when he was at Coventry. It was around the time they were skint and we had him and somebody else looked at. Can't remember the other one.

Edit - just found the thread -http://s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/carl-baker-coventry.30876/

Didn't realise it was the infamous thread that Baxter didn't want to relocate from Liverpool

Good point re Baker, though it would have been a big decision for him to turn down the opportunity at a club our size. He must have travelled to Coventry from Liverpool then.

As regards Reeves, don't we need a replacement for Doyle by next season? Anyway it turns out to be academic by now.

Actually Matt, the players were intended as examples not serious propositions, also I love talking about good players.

January is pivotal for us in the league, I'm still hoping for two new strikers!!

Yes we need a replacement for Doyle as soon as possible.Instead of starting a new thread i'll put it on here if that's alright.

I was doing a bit of scouting myself and found two players who we could land on loan,i say loan as i don't think we'll be doing too much in the way of permanents, one of the players in question leading to a signing if we get promoted and that player being Charlie Macdonald of Bournemouth, quality tackler and passer in the Centre of the park,he's still only 26,but he can't get a game at Bournemouth as they are flying 'atm',they call him the ginger Zidane down there.

The other player is Lloyd Dyer from Watford who has been told he can leave,he would be perfect to challenge Murphy or allow Murphy to go up top,he might be 32 but as loans go to help us challenge for promotion i think we can't go far wrong.

I must stress these aren't rumours, they're merely player suggestions who go to prove there are players out there if you look far enough, and i didn't have to look that far:)

Now obviously I'm coming at this off of a one game viewing but the boy looked good, very busy and always looked to be probing with little runs and passes, a real shame for him that the rest of his teammates weren't up to it on Saturday. A good age at 23 and although our midfield ranks are currently full with adequate backup I wouldn't mind seeing him come in regardless of the division. Just my opinion on someone who I thought really stood out for them on Saturday.:)

Remember him looking good for Brentford, decent shout, but he'd find it difficult to break into our midfield at the moment.

Just googled him and he's a Wimbledon player. They were awful, I don't want any of their players.

He's easily their best player, looked pretty good but no need to sign him. We've got Coutts and Fleck, Carruthers, Whiteman, Reed, even Basham (shudder). Doubt he'd be an improvement.

He seemed to be whinging about every single decision, got on my nerves.

we have enough quality and depth in midfield but I agree he was the player that stood out for me in their team

I was just going to say. There was absolutely nothing of note about the Wimbledon team - cant remember the last time I came away from a match with the opposition having such little impact on my post match thoughts.

Tidy little player, thought he tried to fill that role of linking defence to attack and seemed to always offer himself as an option. Seems quite nippy and alright on the ball.

Having said that, I think he'd struggle to make the bench for us with the midfield options we currently have. I also think he lacked conviction driving into any sought of attacking space. More just a general link up player.

I was more impressed with Elliott for them who was a real handful despite a complete lack of service. Could see one of the teams going up or a top 6 league one side bidding for him in the summer.

All in all, can't say I'd want us to bid for any of their players. We already have better or should be looking for better should this season go the way we all want it to

Reeves looked decent and number 4 (Bulman) looked OK too.

Elliott impressed me the most though. I had him down as a possible January target and he showed that he's everything I thought he was and more. He had no support at all from the attacking midfielders who were woeful but he showed he has good feet and mobility as well as being very strong in the air. At 26 I would've preferred him to Hanson.

I think he'll get a decent move in the summer. Someone like Millwall will take him.

For me he doesn't improve on what we have and should it happen could he play higher up? I'm not so sure.

He's not a bad player mind.
