Wilder mentioned that in his post match interview as well.It wasn't 3-0 when he came on at Southend. Was 4-1 when he went off
Still makes me cringe what we did to Leon Britton. It felt a bit like when we signed Leon Britton but this time we've got a team and manager that can actually make proper use of him.

Great start but lets calm down a bit lads, most of us have only seen him for 20 mins against a knackered already well beaten side. Suggestions to drop/rest Duffy for him are well over the top at the moment but good luck to him and I hope he can put pressure on the present classy midfield.
Forget Scougall. On his day (like today) Duffy is excellent. Carruthers is very handy to have in the wings in case Duffy is having a bad day. I think he can also play the Fleck/ Coutts position. My Chezzy supporting work colleagues reckon O'shea's best position is by far and away the role Duffy is playing too. Good to have competition but I'm not entirely sure we needed to sign O Shea after already signing Carruthers especially given we have Scougall and Brookes too.

it was great to see someone try a shotI thought he was great today but I remember Brian Howard looking superb on his debut, when he came one at 3-0 up.
Also I'm not sure why the rush to replace Duffy, or all the flack he's taken (mostly in the 'Couttes' thread). He was my MOTM yesterday, although that was that period early in the second half when he shot every time he had the ball. I could have sworn he must have put £50 on himself to score.
Edit: Yeah, or what Bladesthorpe said. Bah.
One downside to having all these midfielders is that Brooks will find it hard to get in the squad. We need to be doing all we can to make sure he stays, and some sort of regular involvement would help. It's not like he hasn't got a lot to offer. To be honest I don't think it was necessary to sign O'Shea.
Agree with that.
While I fully agree with the approach cw is taking - we need a team for now to get out of this league. My one reservation of wilder is that he doesn't seem keen on the youth players.
The likes of brooks have garnered positive reviews whenever he's made an appearance and hasn't really had a chance yet.
Whitemans is getting rave reviews for Mansfield and is playing well and scoring regularly for them. Their fans are talking up signing him if we go up.
He also seemed reluctant to chuck Riley and chapman in so far. Even to the extent of getting minutes in games if not starts.
As well as the sales of the promising players (Adams, dcl, ramsdale) my worry is that the young lads may not see progression into the side and end up fulfilling their potential elsewhere. (Although I guess that inevitably happens if they turn out to be great for us too)
Yep, Whiteman's another one. They've both got enough development in them to potentially be better than any of our current midfielders. We can't let these two leave without ever seeing anything from them, it's happened more than enough already. But I think it will happen again. And the academy will carry on paying for itself, while providing no benefit at all. Yippee.
I'm also disappointed Brooks hasn't been given more of a chance. Being in a team dominating the ball and pinning teams back would suit him perfectly, and he'd have a real impact in the final third. But we've seen things like the Scougall substitution v Fleetwood instead.
both whiteman and brooks are excellent prospects but they do need experience and game time so going out on loan is the best policy and as it stands now scougall is 6th choice for me and imo him mcnulty and hussey wont be here next seasonYeah - would love to see them dotted through out the squad going forward. No point in having the academy if we never see the fruits of it.
My opinion at the moment is that Duffy, Fleck and Coutts is probably the best midfield 3 in the division so there's no real argument for Brooks or Whiteman to be starting regularly ahead of them, and I think this situation is ideal for using the loan windows.
Whiteman getting 6 months this year in league 2 playing proper mens football (i'm not convinced there's a huge drop in quality to L2 from L1) can only be good for him. Maybe a spell away starting regularly for both next year will mean in a couple of seasons they are ready to step in and contribute from the start.

They might not be here next year. As far as I'm aware both their contracts expire in the summer. Which is horrendous. We'll probably be able to keep Whiteman in that case but I think Brooks will be off, and why wouldn't he be if he's got PL interest. The club have got to do more to get the best young players tied down because if they don't then what's the point?
because ricky they want to sell at least one of our academy players every season if theres interest its been happening for years so thats why certain youngsters are not offered a deal in any case its gonna be a big step up for these 2 lads in the championship next seasonThey might not be here next year. Would be ideal in a world where we were just playing out a season and being comfortable in Lge 1.both whiteman and brooks are excellent prospects but they do need experience and game time so going out on loan is the best policy and as it stands now scougall is 6th choice for me and imo him mcnulty and hussey wont be here next season
Thats exactly it they want experience but not necessary to throw them into our promotion push ,both Brooks and Whiteman could be big players for us soon but we don't need to risk them with the squad we have built we don't want to fail now .Whiteman is gone until next season which will be good for him , Brooks is around the squad and possibly could get thrown in but he is one for next season! real talent but needs careful management as he is a late developer and needs time to mature not kicked from arse to tit which would happen in this league, could be a really special player.both whiteman and brooks are excellent prospects but they do need experience and game time so going out on loan is the best policy and as it stands now scougall is 6th choice for me and imo him mcnulty and hussey wont be here next season
Noticed he was a bit shy on shooting though, that will have to change....
