What a stupid question?

During the Summer anyone with half a brain would have chosen Clarke.
He was tried and tested where as Taylor would have been a big risk.
Taylor has spent almost all his career in the non league.
Imagine the melt down on here in the Summer choosing Taylor instead of Clarke.
But in restrospect of course Taylor looks better but that's only because Clarke hasn't delivered yet.
Clarke could go to another league 1 club and suddenly be their star player, he's well capable.

We needed to show ambition in the Summer and bring in a proven scorer to back up Sharp, not taking risks on players who have never played in league 1. Hence went for Clarke.
No they wouldn't.

Are you for real?

Check their records?
Taylors is a joke in comparison to Clarke

Are you saying that Sheff Utd should take risks and adopt a policy of buying the best players from the non league?

Thought 99% of Blades had decided we need to buy players for the here and now.
So we look went for a policy of mopping up all the best players in league 1.
Players that know the division and have proven records.

In the Summer Taylor didn't have a proven record and we needed to show ambition, hence Clarke was chosen above Taylor, which was the right choice at the time.

No one has a crystal ball but you have to appreciate that if a club wants the best chance then they shorten the odds and go for the tried and tested.

Clarke was great in league 1 as recently as last season.
No it wasn't !!

Thought there was more to the 300K for Taylor story because why would Rovers accept such a low bid?

Well it seems Bristol Rovers DIDNT want to sell Taylor but Taylor had a confidential clause in his contract that Rovers must accept a £300K bid.

They now asking the league to investigate how Bristol City managed to know about this secret clause.

Reminds me of the Kevin McDonald fiasco. We were so desperate for him to resign a new contract we agree to a £50,000 secret buy out clause.

And surprise surprise Kenny Jacket at Wolves managed to get wind of the confidential details in McDonalds contract.

all players are punts
risks
some soar , some are ok some just dont fit
even alex ferguson bought some donkeys, when you deal at our level not all will be sparkling diamonds
there will be the odd glass bead

You missed out wise geese Nigel

well it was a different team then , wed all like to forget the start
then long in goal brayford hammond

Itook it from the proper season start , our first win

don't "stats" actually say the season starts with the first game of the season, win or lose?

Maybe true about the wages, just goes to show, you get what you pay for, and we've ended up with a wank stain.
Just read that,I am howling.jurys still out 4 me but it dont look good 4 clarke.Sure some people comment without knowledge of anything as well.Matty taylor a journeyman,6 clubs

why do people start threads about players CW didnt bother chasing in a we shudda as Clarkes been disappointing sort of way

Clarkes stats show he should be the better choice

might still be , but feel free to write him off as usual, its the blades way

since the season turned around after the first 4 games
clarke has played in 12 league games of which weve won 9 and drawn 1

dont count cup games as we played seriously weakened teams

The "stats" don't tell the true story though and while I genuinely thought he would supplement Sharp this season he has been extremely poor and just not fitted into the team at all
OXFORD HOME..... played last 4 mins. A token sub for Sharp
GILLINGHAM AWAY...... came on after 27 mins, Can't critisize him but he didn't stand out either. Average.
WIMBLEDON AWAY...... came on in the 65th min with us 3-1 up. We lost all momentum.
BURY HOME.... came on at half time. See Gillingham away
CHESTERFIELD AWAY...... Credit where it's due and at 1-1 he helped make the difference.
CHARLTON AWAY....... booked. Was truly awful. Worst United player on the pitch and hauled off just short of the hour mark.
WALSALL HOME...... full 90 minutes. Was awful again but to be fair he wasn't the only one.
SWINDON HOME..... came on for 12 mins with us 4-0 up. Once again killed the momentum.
COVENTRY AWAY..... played last 15 mins. Was ok but Lavery (other sub used) stood out far more.
OLDHAM HOME...... came on in the 54th minute. Set 1 up for Billy and should really have scored himself. A plus game for him.
NORTHAMPTON HOME...... Awful again and subbed on the hour
WALSALL AWAY..... can't be blamed. 22 minute sub appearance and his last minute miss when he hit the woodwork when it was easier to score summed up our day.
As much as we would like to you can't disregard the opening 4 games where he played every minute. As a team we were poor but we were individually poor too.
Basic stats I'm afraid prove nothing. Maybe things may change but it can't be denied that so far he's offered very little.
Happy birthday btw

Did you see Billy Sharps first return stint with us

its littered with as many goals and recaro seat warming

but hes doing better now

how do you kill the momentum at 4--0 most teams ease off cant say hes at fault
man city eased off at that at west ham
wanted them to get 10

in his defence its hard to get in the groove if in most cases your playing cameo roles
any player needs a run to get proper match fit

We were flying against Swindon, really going for the jugular and looked like we might score more but he came on and he just didn't fit in as to how we were playing that day. I take your first point but we are talking here and now. If Billy has to be brutally honest I would hazard a guess that asked which striker he preferred to play with then Leon would be bottom of the list.
I'm not anti-Clarke. Based on what we have seen so far though it's been very disappointing

Its not been good , but he has struggled with niggles . still think we can squeeze a bit more out of him
he hit a streak at Bury , the like of which wouldnt do us any harm

Gasheads in the pub last night were claiming that Taylor is shite anyway, misses far more than he scores. Probably just sour grapes but just saying.

I hope your right but sadly with the arrival of Hanson I think he's slipping down the pecking order

United paid just over a third of the price in the op. If you see Wilder's latest BBC Radio Sheffield interview he states that we haven't paid more than 300k for a player this season (8:30-45). That player was Simon Moore. The wage structure at the club will mean that Clarke got an extra year in lieu of the pay cut he received. If United don't go up this season, the remaining big earners in the current squad have one year extension triggers in their deals, but are unlikely to be renewed again if we are not promoted the following season.
