That Scoreline...

...will shake the division. Not so much the defeat, no way were we going to go undefeated from now to the end of the season, but to be comprehensively smashed like like that is the worry.

It may well be an off day but if we had gone down 2-1 or 1-0 it would have had little impact on the rest of the season, may well have been dismissed as one of those things like Newcastle losing 1-0 at Blackburn, but that scoreline will give enormous encouragement to everyone we play in the next few weeks, whether they be top of the table or bottom of the table sides, any aura of invincibility or a triumphant inevitable march to the tittle has just been smashed to smithereens.

If there is any bright side to today it may convince the board that we are not assured of promotion and Wilder needs further backing to strengthen the squad in the next fortnight.

Good.

I hope it makes other teams more confident. Maybe they won't all put 11 men behind the ball every game and might actually try to play football with us.

And if they do we'll beat most of them.

We got smashed 1-4 at home to Watford in January in our last promotion season. This was far less one sided. On Saturday, we hit the bar twice, our keeper had a nightmare. One of those days against a bogey team where everything that can go wrong does. Hopefully Lafferty will be back for the next game and we can get back to steamrolling teams.

We only lost by so many because we chased goals and made errors. Had we been less gung-ho, we might have drawn or lost by one. But we wouldn’t have thumped teams like we have playing like that. I’ll take this blip to see us keep doing what we’re doing.

We have 3 home games on the bounce and if this result gives our opponents a temptation to try to come and have a go, it could even work in our favour. Billy due to get back to scoring after a couple of games without. Scunny and Bolton have to go to Charlton and Southend next week so a chance to re-open the gap.

Hardly. We have lost to Walsall three times this season. The issue isn't today's result it is why have we lost three times to them and what is it they do (or did) that we can't respond to. Wilder and Knill culpable there in my opinion.

I don’t think the chuckaturd trophy really counts as nobody gave a shit. The game at the lane was something of a freak in that we had 2 dubiously disallowed goals, missed a penalty and missed a few more good chances. We also had a weak ref from Wombwell who let them timewaste all game.

We generally look a little less effective when teams match up our 352 formation which they have done in both games. Usually, over the course of 90 minutes we still have too much for teams but we don’t tend to blow them away with the same ease (Oldham for example). But Walsall counter-attacked well and had some luck with our ‘keeper having a shocker. On another day, Moore doesn’t concede a couple of those that he did, we score the efforts that hit the bar and it’s a very different outcome. Playing an attack-minded 352 system can throw up a result like this once in a while as we get picked off on the break but let’s consider the overall picture. This way of playing has seen us generally break down teams, dominate games and quite often blow teams away. Let’s just keep doing what we’re doing (but hopefully without the individual errors).

Biggest game of the season next Saturday by far. Nerves are gonna be so high after that and another slip up turns the odd bad result into real alarm bells.

I'd bring Jake Wright back in immediately to be honest. We've conceded 6 in the last two games

I agree about Wright but have always advocated him being in the team (well, since about October anyway). I also hope Lafferty is back asap so we can get back to our consistent selection.

Most of those games pre interweb. I remember coming back from the Leeds game and yes we were pissed off as fans but we didn't have a collective meltdown and overreaction like some folk like to have online these days. It's one game, one game.

Where’s the collective meltdown? A small minority seem a bit more concerned than 1 bad result ought to warrant. The vast majority put it down to a bad day at the office , perhaps feel slightly less comfortable than they did but still firmly believe we can put it right now with 3 home games on the bounce.

Some people on forums seem to like to invent a mass hysteria so they can paint themselves as the voice of reason when in fact, the majority are saying the same as them.

I appreciate the reasoning that says if a players does well he should remain in the team, but when you hit a low-point (is a rare loss a lowpoint?) is it unreasonable to suggest that you revert to the formation that brought the most success?

but to be comprehensively smashed like like that is the worry.

so from what I can see (via Bladesplayer I must admit as wasn't there) if Simon Moore did not have a bit of a bad day it'd have been 1-2 or 1-1 and "little impact". Bolton lost as well and we'll bounce back on Saturday. UTB

In the 4th division championship winning season we also lost 3-0 away to non league Altrincham in the cup when in those days progressing in the cup was important -we played a full side and drew 2-2 at the Lane and played like twats in the replay losing 3-0 which could have been 6-0 ! We obviously went on to win the league but couldnt beat a non league side twice !

1 - 4 is a freak , out of the blue scoreline .
The fact that I predicted that score in the prediction thread should tell you all you need to know . I ALWAYS take the piss in that thread and predict ridiculous scorelines .

Can you please take the piss out of my lottery numbers for this weekend?

Cheers

Bump.

Feared it...

It's happened.

And now we have to try and get over it... not going to easy.

Disappointed but not surprised. Yet another team that has sat back and made it hard and that's been the case for 6 seasons now, so its hardly new. Its imperative to score first in this league but that said we're not defending well right now and like others have said I don't know why we're persisting with Basham, when Wright is fit and available. That said many said Basham gave the ball away for their goal and Moore was at fault at his near post?! Basham won the ball in a tackle, which then went to their man who was in too much space, but that wasn't Bashams fault, he did his job and won the ball. Grant totally miss hits his shot and it falls straight into the path of their right back who is not been tracked by Lafferty but he seems to have not got a mention in the fault line for that goal. Moore is beaten at his near post but its not as if the Fleetwood right back is out wide - he receives the ball to just the right of centre of goal, and if he had slipped it past Moore to Moore's right, we would have all said Moore was too near to his left post. The second goal is just EEL's fault but these things happen and again its counter attack football from the opposition. We're getting sod all luck right now and just need a break.
