I think so Corky...I didn't recognise where it was at first...At first I thought what's a Sheffield bus doing at the coast...then I realised it wasn't a green cliff side hill by the sea,it's a giant slag heap.

It is. The Cricket Inn was further down. The remnants of Nunnery Pit. Often bursting into flames. Pretty much where the bottom of the Parkway is now.

What a player he was.

Always liked Geoff Salmons, thought his energy and direct running were great.

Remember going to Stoke away when we played there after we sold him to them. Fucking scary place, most of the 'tough guys' jumped in the moat round the pitch to get chucked out. Me and my mate had to run the gauntlet back to the coach after, chased by about 50 of the fuckers baying for blood.

Funny looking back, not that comical at 15 and a long way from home.

He scored both Stoke's goals when they beat us 2-1 in November 1975. Jimmy Johnstone's debut for us

That Nikon lens is a nice one, look after it.
Haven't been to Meersbrook park for many years. As I recall, it wasn't flat enough for us to play football on! We ended up going to Millhouses in the days before the houses on Asline Rd were flattened to make that park.

Many long happy days growing up, spent playing matches at the top end of Meersbrook Park...but you're right, Highfield, being brutally honest, it probably is a touch on the sloping side to be considered ideal!

We would play across the slope at the top end (because we all lived in Norton Lees), with the little ridge up to the railings bordering Norton Lees Road providing a natural touch line on one side. The problem was on the other side, though, where if a couple of lads got into no-quarter-given tussle for the ball, you'd end up with a couple of players tackling each other 50 plus yards down the slope whilst everyone else waited at the top of the hill for the winner to trudge back up to the pitch with the ball.

As I recall, there is a flatter area just below the allotments, but for some reason, we never played there; always carried on playing across the hill...

I had this sticker album but didn't manage to complete it.
Blades were in the second division at the time so we only had a team photo sticker in the album.

Tony bloody Towers was the only one I never got, although I now really wish I'd kept the album...

Here you go BB :)

2 things about that photo:

1. Is the keeper wearing gloves? That was unusual at the time, I think.

2. That was the first season after an important rule change for keepers. Until 1912, they could handle the ball anywhere in their own half.

Unbelievable save. We all thought Pesky had equalised.
Was right behind the goal.
Probably one of the best saves I have ever seen in a Blades match.
So near then but so far.

Gutting but you have to take your hat off to it.

I was behind the goal as well KB. I watched it as the ball left Peschy's head and was almost at the goal line and then everybody jumped up in front and all around us to celebrate so I never actually saw the save, I was celebrating with the rest. I just couldn't comprehend how it could have been saved until I saw it later, truly unbelievable, and as we're finding out this season it just shows the difference a good keeper can make to a team's fortunes.
