The Star On Samir Carruthers

Just an observation from someone who reads The Star (but not its website), and reads this forum. The newspaper has not once, I believe, mentioned the racecourse incident, whereas posters on here have mentioned it hundreds of times. And some of the comments have been very funny. But I think our fans are keeping this story alive, rather than others. And on the question of bias, the newspaper has presented positively McCabe's role in bringing Chinese investment into Sheffield. I guess the like button will not be much activated on this post!:(

Do know who wrote the Chinese investment story ? Probably james shield...he is a blade. I think shields should do all blades stories, and have a wendy write theirs. Both will be biased to their team obviously but it would balance out the biased argument. I would however expect both to contain actual accurate stories and not half arsed stories with facts taken from Wikipedia.

The website had the incident up straightaway as soon as the transfer went through but then they changed it after a couple of hours or so after getting pelters about it, that's perhaps why you've never seen The Star mention it.

I'm with you on our fans keeping the story going though which basically just needs to stop now, they're quite literally taking the piss.

They've fucking surpassed themselves now.

Darren Burke strikes again, he is the one who wrote the Samir article the other day.

I can't believe that a Donny fan gets allowed to write this shite but it seems like he is having to apologise for articles he writes for the Donny Free Press as well.

I think he is The Star's resident troll especially since he is supports neither Sheffield club.

He's just recycled an old story. The advertising section phones must be quiet so they've let him sit at the news desk again. Now the oafs a victim, The Clickbait Kid.
And they wonder why the paper and its website are rubbished.

At a news desk? He is more than likely at home waiting on Twitter for the shitstorm.

He clearly likes to stir the shit, I would not be surprised if he was the one that ran with the Coventry fan letter.

Any old bullshit will do as long as it gets people clicking.

He looks like the spawn of Divine and the Milky Bar Kid.

I think we're harsh on the star mate but as you say not many will agree. I'm not particularly bothered either way on the Star but it seems many of our fan base would be more than happy if the paper folded - pardon the pun! Its a local rag at the end of the day. No doubt not the best local paper in the country but then we seem more than happy to criticise Radio Sheffield every other week. We seem to regularly find problems with both and although there is evidence here and there I think we often make far more of things than is actually the case.

I know the Pigs fan base loves to big themselves up and our local press/radio can indulge that at times but isn't been an underdog and been more humble part of our identity too, as opposed to being the so called bigger club, which Wednesday fans to a man think they are?

Football Heaven should be a laugh tonight, no doubt full of squealing pigs after the drubbing at 10 man Middlesboro. That is if anyone is awake after the 20 minute interview with Carlos the waiter on how the pigs were the better side.

The thing that I found really weird is that many Wednesday fans have such a desire to be considered as a big club. Its seems to be their main reason for supporting Wednesday.

Listen to Radio Sheffield tonight and I bet the first thing the Wednesdayite callers mention is how many they took to Middlesbrough, rounded up to the nearest 1000 above of course.

When we were last in the Championship with Robbo as manager we averaged 26,000 a few years running. It was no big deal becuase it was the norm and the kind of gates a big club should expect.

Whereas now that Wednesday are averaging 26,000 their fans seem so surprised and are so proud, so they want all the world to know about it. Why?

In the car when Bison Head mentioned the great following etc etc. 3283 I think Buchan said, so 4000 minimum tonight. As soon as they were losing, it was suddenly about attendances.

Plus the Boro fans would have been telling every Pig they bumped into how they were the best fans they'd ever seen. Ever.

Its the Wednesday identity like an older brother does to a younger brother (forgive the comparison to Wednesday as our brothers!) to see themselves as superior (which they're not). Wednesday do have great support but so do we too and I think both sets of fans do talk about how great their support is but for me the national and to a lesser extent, the local media focus more on Wednesdays support because they get a sell out crowd once maybe twice a season or as they did last season at Wembley for 40,000. Wednesday always seem to turn up for the big occasion which tells me they have a large percentage of "glory" supporters, whereas we have a higher percentage of fans that go week in week out from our fan base and if we're talking attendances the only one that matters is the average not the highest.

I think Wednesdayites love to think they're the bigger club with a greater history when in fact both clubs are big but in my view we are less arrogant than Wednesday fans. I would say that Wednesday fans see themselves as on a par with Everton, Villa and Sunderland support wise which to me is total crap, but that's your average Pig fan!

Agree. I think a lot of their supporters who have a choice in it (rather than being brought up as one) chose them because they thought they were choosing a 'big' club. Especially those who started going in the nineties, they thought it was always going to be like that. Mugs, lol.

Four words spring to mind!

BOBBY BOBBY BOBBY DAVISON!

For those of us that were at school in the 90's the derby win at their place is still my favourite win over them! And you're right they definitely thought they'd be there up in the top half of the prem as the norm. I remember fearing that too, but then their board and successive managers thought the same and started spending over their station and it all went beautifully wrong!

It stems from insecurity. Wednesday have no identity. They were briefly on the cusp of being amongst the football elite in the early/mid 90's but it never materialised. I grew up in that time-period and I know for a fact that the kids at school chose to follow the pigs purely due to their position at the time.
Since then SWFC have been seen by Pigs as a project in which to invest their support, but it's driven by the elusive promise of success and status and nothing else.

This explains why their attitude towards their failures over the past 17 years has been one of total denial. If they keep consoling themselves by hanging on to tinpot measures of success like attendances, then they won't have to admit that they've invested all their time, money and energy into a failed project. Because being a Wednesdayite isn't enough for them.

It's a stark contrast to the character of support we have at United. We're Blades because we are. It runs much deeper, it is innate and conditional on nothing. Put simply, we have a culture and a community and they do not.

RS should stick to doing commentary. The phone in is a waste of time as they clearly have their favourite callers who talk utter bobbins and provides them all with a laugh.

If RS want to know how to do a phone in properly they should listen to the World Football Phone In on Radio 5. Fair enough it is callers asking questions to pundits but it is far more entertaining to listen to than the Pitsmoor pig going "erm yeah" all the time.

Seems about right to me from what I remember in the 90's, they did hoover up a lot of the glory supporters who thought they would always be in the PL.

I noticed people who had not been to Hillsborough in years maybe not even since the 90's appearing on my Facebook timeline before the play-off final last year giving it the "WAWAW".

It is funny to see Wednesday fans going to the big occasions when they barely even know who plays for their club.

What are the weight loss tips my Doctor doesn't want me to know though?

Yes very strange, They provide a link entitled "Weight loss tips your doctor doesn't want you to know about"
And then provide a list of tips that your doctor DOES want you to know about.

It's the same as "Life Assurance benefits that Insurance Companies don't want you to know about"
Then provide a list of benefits written by life assurance companies

Why would a life assurance company NOT want you to know about the benefits of the products they sell

You fucking pig!!!

We know he's not a nice bloke. But a highly paid footballer who thinks involvement in a £2k bank fraud is worth the risk? He's not very clever either.

Think it would have been more than that is not caught pal, it says he was found in possession of a mobile phone that had the banking details of 500 people on it.

It's ironic (lol) that they still champion Big racist Atkinson, who single handedly took the cart off the rails by leaving for Aston Villa In the middle of building them a decent team.. I know he came back, but Richards being as petty as he could be stabbed him straight in the back... glory days eh...

He got them relegated too in 1990. He also set the ball rolling for their decline at the end of that decade, which Wilson always gets 100% of the blame for.
