Really? What did he do that was so special?

I understand that he's fairly good defensively but we need more than that in this league. The attacking part of his role is more important than the defensive part and from what I've witnessed, Basham and O'Connell get forward with more impetus from centre half than he does.

Maybe I'm just missing something, so if it's just me I'll hold my hands up!

Dec, I'm not a big fan of Lafferty as a wing back but I thought he was right on his game throughout the match. I'm sure his stats would show a big contribution, a lot of ball winning and some good crosses and interplay. More pro-active and involved than usual, credit where credit is due.

Apparently we knicked Lafferty off Oldham who were about to sign him on loan again; perhaps that was a factor.

We are told Wilder is after a 'winger' in the JTW and I think we need one on both sides of the field, particularly the left.

He scores 6th best starting player in our Ratings section, that's a dizzy height for him.

In the spirit of the season.......oh yes he did!!

Absolutely. He was every bit as much responsible for the three points as Billy Sharp and Simon Moore. 9s for all three from me, so yes 8 wasn't right.

Thanks deadbat. I'm amazed how you take all this in. If you don't me asking where do you sit to follow things with such detail?

I was once required to write a match report back in the days of thebladesonline.com, Colchester away second leg of a league cup tie, and I found it really tough because I had to look out for such things as formations and the referee's performance. I took comfort from the fact that there was only 180 of us in the away end meaning only 179 could contradict my version of things. Added to that the ref was David Elleray so I could quite happily mark him down having paid next to no attention to him and no-one would contest my decision.

I've never wanted to write a serious match report again so Deadbat my woolly hat is doffed in your direction with a flourish.

I thought Lafferty had his best game for us and joint MOM with O'Connell who was brutal at times.

Well played too - Sharp (goals), Moore, Duffy (last half hour) and Coutts.

I don't extend it to MoM, Woody, but I do agree Lafferty is not the weak link some say he is. He is sound defensively, a good athlete and often gets on the end of crosses in the box, such as that header from Duff's visionary cross. He had a good game at Cov too.

Indeed. A poisoned chalice to say the least. I have criticised DB's reports vigorously in the past but, like Uncle Scrooge, I have seen the error of my ways. He provides a great service. That's not to say he always gets it right though... :).

Did you get visits from three spirits during the night? The Ghost of Green 'Uns Past (Tony Pritchett), The Ghost of The Stir Present (James Shield), and the Ghost of Clickbait Future (Hackblade).

Did Deadbat reports used to feature in the match programme or official site until we started playing poor and the club didn't like the criticism within the reports? Or did I imagine that?

I believe that did happen on the main website – and was for that reason short-lived.

Correct!

I never even got an e mail to tell me they would not be using them.

They had originally asked me if they could use them (they asked me) and I said not a problem and they clearly stated it was a fans perspective (used another lad Beans too)

A few bad results and some forthright points and they stopped appearing!
