Wasn't it LYDON that 'demanded' the club allow Blades behind both goals only the other week or did I dream it?

Either way, good on the club, somebody is listening to someone.

Now LYDON , demand a Bradfield Brewery kiosk now!

We've suggested both directly to the powers that be numerous times previously. The lower tier has always been down to SAG.

The kiosk isn't possible whilst we have a contract with Compass and current Brewery ties.

As others have said, it's a pleasing step in the right direction but I agree with the many who would prefer to see our fans given the entire upper tier. With its steep rake and no stanchions, it provides far and away the best view in the stadium.

However the club choose to do it, we do need to work out how to have United fans on both ends of the ground. Outside of Sheffield, where progress tends to be painfully slow, most clubs of comparable size to United have stopped giving away fans an entire end behind a goal. The fact that the piece on the Official Site refers to the "traditional" away end says it all.

As much as anything, it has been a response to the fact that the atmosphere from home fans virtually everywhere is plainly not what it used to be before all-seater stadiums. It makes no sense at all to have away fans congregating together behind a goal to make racket and nullifying the home advantage. See how away fans have recently been moved aside to positions where their influence on the atmosphere can be diluted, at places like Leeds, Derby, Forest and Wolves.

As it is, at the moment we are not maximising the potential home advantage. We either spend half of the match attacking an empty stand, and we know how flat the atmosphere invariably is when we kick towards the Lane end, or we allow away fans to fill the stand with the best acoustics in the ground, which we should not be doing for key matches against Bolton, Scunthorpe and Bradford.

Post from Bulmer on Bladesmad:

"Had a word with John Garrett he agrees about pricing and has got the exec to take a look at it so fingers crossed"

Good.
He'll probably come back and say yes we made a mistake on pricing..........£22 will now be £25 ta for bring it to our attention :p

As has been said some tickets will already have gone to the away clubs coming here soon. Hopefully the clamour for cheaper tickets won't just attract knobheads who'll kibosh the whole deal. Tickets should be no cheaper than the Kop.

I suppose having our fans on the lower tier directly behind the goal will have a more postive affect on the players than having then in the upper tier.

When the BL Corner extended stand was built I remember McCabe saying how the internal concourse design meant that there was great flexibility allowing us to allocate away fans almost whatever we wanted based on home and away support demand.

I remember reading 10 years ago about some study that showed teams who DIDN'T have away supporters behind the goal but accomodated them elsewhere had better home records than teams that did.

Be great to have the fans behind both goals for the big games. Always thought we miss a trick there.

Agreed. I'm not sure the games selected are a true test. If we happen to be playing some very big games on a regular basis next season this will come into its own. Make it non-designated seating and compulsory singing upon pain of death...

It's such a shame about the brewery ties. Do you know if the club are looking to change this once the current contract is over? It'd be good to get more local offerings for sale across the board as I think they would do well, but in particular having a range of local ales would entice fans to spend more, I'm sure. The club would also show a bit more community responsibility by rotating and showcasing local beers etc.

Nice idea, but the reality is that Greene King pay a sackload of money for the exclusivity. There's no way the local breweries, either individually or collectively, could match this.

The problem is storing the beers when the ground is only used once every fortnight or so, hence easily-storable and durable chemical shit.

I'm glad they're opening up the Lane end for United fans
But really, Gillingham, Fleetwood and Wimbledon ????
Will there be sufficient demand for these games

All that will happen is we will have four half full sides to the stadium instead of three sides fairly full

Villa moved all of the away fans from behind the goal and look how well they've do-....ah.

It won't make the blindest bit of difference where the away fans are sat if we insist on maintaining a healthy 90 minute silence every match.

The club know there won't be demand.

They aren't thinking about these matches. They are thinking about when we play Bolton, Scunthorpe, Bradford, Coventry and the last match of the season Chesterfield.

It's basically a trial run, an experiment whilst the pressure is off.
If it goes well (which it should) then we're more likely to have extra tickets when it's really needed towards the end of the season.

Have to give credit as it's actually a bit of forward planning by the club.

L666s moved the away fans to the side so they could rip them off
Wolves have been using the side stand for years.
Sure Ive seen away fans behind the goals at Florist and Derby with it split with home fans

Plus imagine the highly trained bar staff we have pulling a pint of real ale.

Not to mention all those twats with beards asking for a drop in one of those taster glasses and reminiscing about it tasting similar to a half of Old Minge they had at the Octagon Beer Festival in 1979.

I think it's a good idea, the atmosphere as heard from the pitch will be massively improved if we get a big turn out. Also they did say trial for three games and we have two big games in Feb with bolton and scunny.

Foxy Whilst we're on it with the bar situation, have you ever raised the number of bar staff they have on? someone else has mentioned above, even on a good day it can take 20mins to get served, when it's busy there's no point in trying. It's an inconvenience for fans and must be lost revenue opportunity for the club.
