Caveblade,

Many Blades don't ring into Radio Shefifeld these days because there's nothing to complain about. It's weird because everything is so rosey in the garden, it's almost boringly good.

Regards the subject of club loyalties
there was a show on the other week to celebrate the anniversary where they interviewed ex presenters.

They actually asked presenters to admit which team they supported as a boy.

There was a common theme where presenters admitted that they initially supported a team as a boy
But of course they are professionals and so are able to have any no bias towaard any club.

Some even admitted that they were lucky to meet managers and players at all the local clubs
And although it's a cliche they DO eventually start supporting ALL the local clubs.

There have been some great presenters over the years from Bob Jackson, Bob Ballard, Seth Bennet and Paul Walker. The current crop are okay, but Rob Staton (maybe subconsciously) cannot hide his true allegiance.

I used to work in Leeds and always listened to the sports news and it is scientifically proven that 90 % of bulletins would start with the words Sheffield Wednesday and commonly not even mention United.

As I said above the match commentaries are good, but the whole phone in element is tired beyond belief, with the same jokers ringing night after night.

Some Wendy was saying that forestdivesearly was going to leave, and he should go before upsetting the team...the presenter was clearly upset by this and cut him straight off, basically ridiculing the guy and saying it was nonsense, they won't have anything said negatively about them lot.... it was as if it was unthinkable that he'd move to a better club (Newcastle) they're very deluded...

Us, well it's open season every night isn't it... radio Sheffield and the stir .. fuck em..

On the plus side everyone, how great is it that the only thing we can moan or argue about is radio Sheffield! Everything else is bloomin marvelous. UTB's

It's quality coverage and fantastic value for money. Godsend for those outside the patch as well who miss the banter of the S. Yorks footie scene.

I hope you're being sarcastic?
Listening to the Pitsmoor Pig saying "yeah" after every third word is simply dispiriting.

I listened tonight for the first time in ages, to hear the Wilder interview. I knew every caller, in fact I could have probably predicted the line up. it is low rent garbage. As has been pointed out most Blades have given up on it quite simply because of the pro pig leanings. Most of us simply can't bear to endure another 20 minute interview with Carlos by the salivating Rob Staton.

Correct. Last night was beyond parody. As you say, that illiterate cunt 'Yeah? Mark. Yeah?', 'Brian The Blade' ("If I was Sheffield Wednesday I'd be on the phone to myself..."), that Unitedite who just repeats himself and is clearly Care In The Community material, an increasing number of piggie fans who are getting pissed off as Wendy missed their big chance last season, an interview with 'Wilder', the usual oleaginous creeping to 'Carlos' and - of course - the interruption every 15 minutes as 'we've got to go to the travel'. Same shit every night - they could just put it on a tape.

At 6.00 'The traffic is very busy out there'. (Yes, you cunt. It's what the rest of the world calls 'rush hour'). 'Hold ups at Upper Hanover Street, Bramall Lane Roundabout, Derek Dooley Way and Brook Hill Roundabout' (and repeat. Every fifteen minutes, every night). 'If you see any hold ups, call us on the Jam Dodger line' The spirit of Alan Partridge lives on.

I don't get the animosity towards the show really. If you don't like it then don't tune in.

Most other fans in the country would love to have the option of listening to a show about local clubs 6 days a week. It may get repetitive but I'm glad it's there if I fancy listening to it.

It's pretty obvious that it feels like the Sheffield Wednesday Show at the moment simply because Blades are not phoning in as there is nothing currently to moan about. Go back to last January and the JTW and all you heard were Blades fans demanding Adkins / Phipps / McCabes heads on sticks.

Maybe it's just me but I quite enjoy hearing the pigs slowly come to the realisation that they blew their only chance in 20 years last season.

an increasing number of piggie fans who are getting pissed off as Wendy missed their big chance last season,

I was quite enjoying last night's show after one of them said they 'definitely wouldn't make the playoffs'. Mad 'Mick from Rawmarsh' came on to steady the party line. I think he is hilarious. He tries to talk in a considered laconic manner to make it clear he is oh-so reasonable. This is fine when he is summing up a game where they won comfortably, but hilarious when he is defending the club. Everything is all right in the sty garden. Everything. There are no problems. None!

Bring on more pig dissent.

Let's have a bit of respect here, give him his proper title, Mark The Pitsmoor Armed Robber :-)

I can only imagine that it's mutual desperation, RS needs the callers, Mark needs the attention.

I know I am speaking from a prejudiced point of view,in that I hate everything to do with SWFC,but there is one thing in particular that really pisses me off.In simple terms 'they' finished 6th last season 15 points behind Brighton and 9 behind Hull, why is there such unrealistic expectations this season, they are just an 'also ran',i can see it why can't everybody else?

He is definitely a pig fan, I know someone who went to school with him and says he was a pig fan then. That said, I actually really like Rob Staton and all of the presenters to be honest, am I the only one who thinks we're lucky to have Radio Sheffield's coverage?!

He used to post a lot on Pork Talk. But while it's clear he's a huge pig, he's never struck me a being anti United.

I don't think Walker has ever gotten over being left out of the loop over the Blackwell sacking, Sky had already broadcast it and Bruno had to tell him live on air.

You are not alone, I share your prejudice, I'm sure we all do :-)

What gets me is that last season, W*dnesday really stumbled into the play offs almost by default, other teams just kept falling over. There was a five point gap between them and seventh, that's a lot of points, you'd expect somebody to be closer than that.

This season, it's happening again, they're apparently playing badly and nobody's catching them. Derby went on a run and then collapsed, Norwich had a terrible run and have barely recovered. The best bet at the moment to pinch sixth is Barnsley, which has to be preferable to the oinkers.

Totally agree. Surely one thing we can't blame Radio Sheffield for is the callers, who they have no control of who rings in?! I actually love listening in when Wednesday have lost as I just love laughing at them!

They're fans of all clubs on the show that are annoying etc but isn't that just life in general? As for the Carlos interviews I rarely listen to them because although he's speaking in English his comprehension and understanding of English just means he speaks in very simple terms and its boring. He fits the Pigs protocol of bigging them up like they're Barcelona or something and still calls their fans massive as opposed to having massive support!

I listened for a while on Monday for the first time in ages, bloody hell Carlos is dull. Big up to the Blade who was on straight after his borefest who said "sorry, I were asleep theer". Also, Carlos said his players needed "more fresh air" and a sensible Pig came on and said "they get fresh air out on the pitch".

Gave you a like despite the "sensible pig" nonsense.

There is growing discontent with the whole set up - it is just a slow burner at the present. You only have to talk to sensible S6 fans to know.

The key here will be if they slip to 8th with the look of missing out of the PO's - until this point nothing will happen other than the status quo.

Tuna boy has spent a lot of dosh - so did Randy Lerner at Villa and he eventually got pissed off with lack of progress.

We just have to hope it doesn't happen this season and if it doesn't then a change of manager could mean implosion.

Not quite the football phone-in though that the majority of people are talking about on this thread is it?
absolute garbage of a football phone in always been wendy biased same callers every night i suspect radio pig even phone em up to get em to phone in there should be 2 shows one for each club so you can listen just to your own club

On the way back from Bury, I popped into the shop for a few provisions just as the interview started. I got back into the car and Carols was still mangling the English language (admittedly his English is better than my Portuguese). Next Blade on was funny with his "asleep theer" comment, very subtle by that show's standards.

Oh sorry i thought you were missing him my bad,he's on the breakfast show again today.

And yes i do know what we are talking about in this thread,so dont get smart.
I can't help it.. it just comes natural to me!! 8-)

Aside from my man-love for Paul Walker.... I do think he is one of the better commentators/journalists that has graced the local airwaves...even though he's a blade was always ready to have a pop at them..
Fair play to the lad for taking a risk n going freelance... not easy

He once told me when I asked him that as a Schoolboy he watched Wendy one week and Millers the next

He made the comment (as they all do) about wishing all local clubs to do well

Now that means fk all and peeps have said he used to post on porktalk so that tells us what we need to know

Having said the above, I did believe him when he said he wants all local clubs to do well. Had he have asked me, I would've told him the truth that I'm desperate for the pigs to get relegated :D Would be such fun after all the Baht the Chansir has chucked at the sty

Don't understand why you felt the need to put that in a reply to what I put In a reply to somebody else's post who had replied to my opening post which was "bring back Paul Walker"

Each to their own though!!

Unfortunately the problem is self-perpetuating – Blades perceive bias so don't call, so the same small number of Blades that call get regular air time (a good number of whom are idiots, meaning Radio Sheffield is accused of making us look bad due to their apparent bias) or fans of other clubs get more time, so Blades don't call. And so on.

I listened to the last twenty minutes this evening for the first time in a while and the Unitedite they had on as the final caller (Lee I think) was excellent – unfortunately the show will only get better if more people like him call it.

Hello Rob, it's Ian. Eckington Blade, formerly Blackpool Blade. (Laughs) I called last night and I'm just going to reprise the whole call yet again.

12 minutes later,

Rob, it's Mick the Rawmarsh Taxi Driver Owl, I haven't phoned up to talk about United but that Ched Evans......

I can't help it.. it just comes natural to me!!

This fella has the same problem !!
