He has been mentioned a lot this season and for good reason, one particular incident showed this more than anything I have seen this season, from my position on the kop the ball was going from there goal towards the dug out in a straight line, last season coutts would hardly ever have bothered chasing it and if he did he would have been brushed aside and they would have gone on the attack, but today he determinedly chased the ball and when he got in a 50/50 he brushed there player away turned and ran at them, pushing the ball towards the bi-line, told EEL to get out the way (maybe because he thought he was offside) but so what he wanted it, puts the ball in the box and suddenly a goal, fucking brilliant coutts, good game today, and again it has to be said well done Wilder/Knill for the transformation.

Off out now lads and lasses, God I'm in a fuckin good mood, happy new year, and I promise steveblade my newyears resolution is I will refrain from posting when pissed

He was everywhere today. Pulling the strings, keeping our shape and ensuring we stuck at our own game despite the gerritforrard and avashot (through three human bodies all within 5 yards of you) idiots in the crowd. Along with the brilliant Simon Moore he was chiefly responsible for the three points we won. We wouldn't have won if the daft minority in the crowd had their way and we'd started launching it.

A match lasts 90 odd minutes. You can use every last one of them: be it early, middle or late. There's a reason why we have scored so many vital late goals this season. It's because we've dominated possession big time; footballed the opposition to death and left them knackered from chasing us around. They tire physically and mentally. The gaps appear late in the game. Our quality players do their stuff. We strike.

Coutts had a good game today, it wasn't his best, but it's a sure sign of a quality player when he continues to do the correct things in desperate times when lesser players either switch off or loose their heads. It's at least twice this season that Coutts has created something out of nothing in the dying embers and won us three points.

His performance starts to look outstanding when you consider that he was (and this might upset some on here) carrying fleck for most of the game who was either absent or poor throughout.

It hasn't upset me but Coutts carrying Fleck? What a load of shite!

Your first paragraph was good aswell.

Just goes to show what a fucking charlatan he was last season...........

Lads done well this season, Fleck, Duffy and Coutts definitely compliment each other's styles, Duffy is head and shoulders better than anyone else in the division.

Fleck was off the pace and he knew it, this was shown particularly in the second half when his first thought was to offload it to Coutts or Duffy for them to do the work for him, otherwise known as carrying him. Fair play to him for using initiative but you can't say he payed well surely?

I didn't think Fleck played well, no but he was still trying to look forward with the ball when he got it, just like Duffy does but a lot of it didn't come off.

Coutts on the other hand couldn't wait to get rid of it in the first half and only really started to put his stamp on the game with 15 mins to go which is huge credit to him considering his fitness issues last season. Some will only remember the last 15 mins so it will seem like he's played well, I watch the whole game and two Fleck passes in that first half were world class, watch them back mate.

Coutts didn't and never will carry Fleck.

Flecks overall standards have dropped no doubt!,maybe it's teams nullifyin our midfield strengths by packing midfield areas as soon as we get the ball.
We need to get down the flanks quicker as avenues are being closed down through the middle. It's noticeable late in games teams are being outflanked as we overload wide areas which tends to make room in box to get at teams. As Wilder says teams start to sit deep late in games as the pressure starts to ramp up.
For me a wide player with trickery and pace is a must,we would get round the back a lot earlier and in so doing forcing teams to sit deeper which if we use the ball well puts them under pressure. It's no coincidence these late goals are coming from in and around the 6 yd box teams pushed so deep always concede goals.

Here we go again.
Not for me thought he did loads of what I have wanted from him but then forgot to do well what he has been doing well. 7th minute, played a ball to Fleck that was never going to get there (loads of those today) but to his credit and for once he chased after the situation eventually tackling well just inside or on the edge of our box to retreive. other times he went jogging again leaving Freeman exposed as he has done plenty of times this season.
To be " a proper footballer" you need to be able to adapt and he cannot. Swap him and Freeman positionally and see who is the better all round footballer.
Am I concentrating too much on his faults? It is not just me though is it. The management are also getting him to try and cover better and shoot more. To his credit he has been shooting more.

Let's just enjoy three of the best midfielders we've had for years without playing them off against each other, eh? All have excellent but different qualities that dovetail superbly. I ❤ all 3. Proper ⚽.

Couttsy is the bestest though.....

Spot on. Coutts was bang average for most of that match, as was Fleck.

Can't complain overall but I do wish Coutts would carry the ball forward more often. It's the absence of this drive from his game which prevents him from being a real force.

Fleck is beginning to concern me. He has been a rocket and is becoming a bit of a squib. Coventry fans voiced views over drop off. We need to be aware he may become invisible.
Why else is he a Division 3 player at his young age?
Just a warning.

He's dropped off form the last few but has been superb overall. He was Coventry's player of the year, so his drop off was surely not that significant?

He's our best midfielder for me and I hope he's with us for a good few years.

I said exactly the same to someone before he made that run down the flank to put the cross in which led to the goal and the drive in which he took two players out of the game late on, he took the shot and the keeper parried it out. If he would show more of this, he would be an all round 'proper' midfielder and playing in the league above now, let's hope his confidence and fitness issues are behind him to make this happen next season. Very good turnaround so far though.

We need another ratter mate. Fleck will not do us a good enough job week in and out to get us up.

The least of my worries. I agree with the vast majority of your analysis in the (this week's :)) NGE thread, by the way.

He isn't.

I'm not the one creaming over Coutts and saying Fleck has been shite and carried for a few weeks. Read it, it's on here so quote the right people.

Fleck is a better player than your lover Coutts, Coutts has warmed to the task and knows he can't be a passenger because of CW and that's why he's coming to the party.

So Fleck off and Happy new year. :)

He had a quiet one against Oldham so I reckon either Wilder put a rocket up his arse or he put one up his own arse determined to get back to the standards he has set this season.
