Another hour wasted trying to force a Clarke Sharp partnership

Massively disagree with criticism of sharp today. At times he demonstrated brilliant hold up play - something he'd obviously like carrying out for him.

Clarke did look half a pace off but wasn't the reason for United's fired blanks. For me, so much is reliant on Duffy and altho he was involved with practically everything (and so hard to criticise), his final link ups and final balls were just a tad sub par.

I'd love us to run at opposition boxes more.

is it just me that notices we are dealing with league one players
no Clarke isnt as sharp as Aguero , or as fast as Costa
but by all accounts Billy was not at his best today
we have league one players
why do we demand prem standard levels

To be fair Clarke has been way off league one standard.

My opinion has nothing to do with him being ex Wednesday either. I do admit that I didn't want him in the first place as he always seemed to carry an air arrogance. In my opinion giving him a 3 year deal was an mistake.

Totally agree with you on the Evans front by the way. Leave it with Wilder if he signs him he'll get my support if he doesn't then I'I'll assume he had his reasons not too.

We won so it's not another hour wasted. I also don't think they can play together because it doesn't suit how we play football. We like to try and get it forward quickly, so the player needs to be pacey, hardworking, have lots of movement and score goals. The only person who fits that bill who is attainable Evans , whether I like it or not.

Clarke should only played when Billy doesn't, but he didn't set the world a light when he started against Bolton in the cup, when he started for Sharp.

Back to Done on Monday.

Done IS fucking awful. Runaround Nogoals. We've won our last three games with zero contribution from everyone's favourite mediocrity.

Clarke has been awful but doesn't contribute anything when he's not playing well. At least Done works hard. I am not Done's biggest fan, however he suits what we need right now until we bring someone similar in but with the required quality.

My take on this match is that CW ought to realize he's got some real dilemmas in the striking dept.
Can he swallow his pride and offload Clarke ?
Or Done ?
Who can he get ?
I think his talk about a new M/F is decoy bullshit - he must know he hasn't got a settled strike force.
Evans for Clarke

Ineffective though Done is, Sharp&Done > Sharp&Clarke. It's clear for all to see. You can recognise that while still having a view that we need to improve on Done (which we do, and hopefully will very soon).

Yes we've needed a shadow-chasing non-footballer who gives the illusion of effort but achieves nothing for a few years now.

I give you: Natt Montdomery.

You prefer Clarke Don't you Punchy? You liked Weir as well didn't you? Parp

Of course I prefer a striker who has scored a few goals in his career to a Runaround mediocrity who's well on his way to 2 in his last 50.

I also note how it's okay in good ol' S2 to abuse Leon Clarke as much as you want but useless article Done is a protected species. Sadly for you Runarounders - not while I'm around.

You've not quite got this football thing have you?

It goes something like stick it in their net and don't let them stick it in our net, defenders stop the opposition sticking it in our net I believe, and the attackers stick it in their net, Dones and attacker he's stuck it in their net twice in the last 44 games, thats fucking awful.

Correct me if I'm wrong at all.

Clarke and Done being poor is not mutually exclusive though.

Is it ??

We need better.

Clarke and Gasham off, Done and Scougall on, wins the game.

My 100% record of being right is intact.
You can't let it go can you, Basham was MOM today and went off because he was injured. You are embarrassing yourselve now with your obsession with Basham

It isn't a thread on Done though.

Clarke, when started has been very ineffectual, Done when started on the whole has been very effective, if not at first then in the end, have a look at the stats and forget about all this Done run around shit for a minute.

Oh, and Clarkes' attitude when he got subbed leaves a lot to be desired when he played shite. I'm sure CW or tufty as you call him will make sure the lazy piece of shit doesn't get marky like that ever again.

The mardy cunt........he thinks the place evolves around him, what gave him that impression? (Clarke, not Pinchy). :)

Things looked a lot brighter once that tubby travesty was taken off.

Special mention for Matt Done today, who did very well in an unfamilar position whilst lesser players fumbled in a familiar one.

Football literacy wins the day.

Bert was pondering today, he was trying to work out if Done is left or right footed. It's still a mystery, Bert has never seen him kick the ball yet.

"Clarke does offer something different".

What ?

Precisely what ?

UTB
He's a different quantity to mark and play against - his movement and qualities are different from Sharp, Done and Lavery - I think you forget he scored 18 last year in this league and has hardly played a run of games for us- a number of the players currently playing have also been slated at times in this board and cone good this year - maybe some patient needed???

Like Done or don't like Done I can see arguments on both sides of the fence for him but without his running we are easy to defend against, he creates space and causes panics and the likes of Sharp feed off that. For me Clarke is an impact sub and should not be starting.

Ideally we get a player that runs and pressures like Done but can finish as well in JTW. A player like that though won't come cheap.
This.

No. As it is clearly that simple Wilder must have been a complete fucking duck egg over the first half of the season.

He scored 18 as the main man last season. He's about 3rd shout this. He hasn't looked impressive in reality at all and frankly isn't going to improve with age.
Lavery on the other hand...

strikers weren't a problem today, it was midfield who couldn't pick a pass - I lost count of the runs that Sharp, Clarke, Lavery and eventually Done made where no-one gave them the ball and it was just passed out to the wing instead. Anyway top ain't bad UTB.

I think one reason Clarke got the nod today was because they were a massive team that we played, Leon was placed in a zone just in front of the keeper when we defended corners. Bearing in mind they came with a 'keep it tight and maybe nick one' mentality, I think one if the reasons he played ahead of Done was to combat this threat, albeit one that didn't actually materialise. Second half when they gave up on attacking CW changed it. Just like he changed it by removing Bash to remove some more of our height for Scougal, who was unlucky not to score but for a great save.

We need options and one thing I like about our current manager is that he sees how and when to change things up and on the whole is getting it right. We're top of the league FFS. Look at the positives and enjoy it.

His best time was surely alongside Wilson at Coventry and that was a good while ago now.

Someone at the club needs to give their head a shake for giving him a 3 year deal.

Hindsight though Bladesman. I think when he signed, most of us were happy to get him on a three year deal, given his past goal scoring record. Trust the goals to have dried up when he signs for us.
