We may found League One's biggest tit.
I can't think of any possible way anybody could possibly see Charlton as league one's biggest club.
TBH for me it's not about who is or isn't anyway, it's more about Robinson actually coming out with such a obviously stupid statement in the first place, clearly just to get the supporters onside.
I know managers will say just about anything to curry favour, but they should remember to try and retain a bit of credibility at the same time.
Last major final reached:
Bradford 2013
Bolton 2004
Charlton 1947
United 1936
It might be painful for me to remind you, but we also got to the Championship Play Off final against Burnley, 2009.Surely the Championship Play Off Final counts as a major final considering whats at stake these days...
Which would mean...
Blades 2003 (wanky Wolves)
Charlton 1997..the Mendonca final.
Not that it overly matters in the scheme of things, the Blades are the biggest club in L1 unequivocally as the support has stuck with them through thin and thin..the Coventry and Bolton types have been like rats deserting a sinking ship!
Charlton 1997..the Mendonca final.
SUFCinks,
First you have to define what is meant by "big club".
Tradionally it's support or potential support because that tradionally a fanbase governs finances which usually leads to more success.
A good factor to determine potential support is stadium capacity.
A general guide is the bigger the club then the bigger the stadium:
However now we have the PL it's confused things a little because now even the smallest clubs can have massive finances and the power that goes with that. Hence why little clubs like Swansea and Bournmouth etc can arguably be called "big clubs"
Also history is normally a factor is defining a big club but how far do we go back?
I've heard many refer to Leeds United as traditionally a big club, but their success only started from the mid 1960's. Before 1960 Huddersfield Town were the the big club of West Yorkshire winning the league 3 times in the 1920's. Leeds were a nothing club from 1920 to 1960.
I saw a league table a few months back where someone gave a rating for several categories than determine size. I think we came 18th on the list of biggest clubs with Wednesday 14th biggest.
Also regards your list I'd put Coventry and Charlton above Bradford. The Battams are a small club really but do have great potential fanbase. I'd also move Scunthorpe and Chesterfield from the middle group to the bottom group and I'd move Swindon Town up to the middle group. Fleetwood are by far the smallest club in league 1 and should be in a section by themselves.k
It might be painful for me to remind you, but we also got to the Championship Play Off final against Burnley, 2009.
