Skipper's season over, unless...
Posted on: Mon 21 Apr 2008

Chris Morgan will miss the remainder of the Championship season as a result of the red card he received on Saturday.

The Blades skipper was shown two yellow cards in the first half of Saturday's win by referee Phil Dowd for fouls on Fraizer Campbell, and will now sit out the games against Bristol City and Southampton.

Receiving two yellow cards is normally just a one match ban but Morgan has had a second match added to his suspension because he has already been sent off this season.

However, should United sensationally make the play-offs, Morgan would become available again.

Awwww, I love watching Morgan play sometimes.. and if you can't see him you can certainly hear him!!

its time to find another captain , the bloke is a liability and not a good role model for the younger players ,club captain with the club record of six sendings off is not very good is it ?

Exactly.

I'm surprised it is only 6 red cards to be honest though.

Everytime he sets foot on the pitch you know he will give 100%, but you're also in risk of not ending up with 11 men on the pitch with him.

Don't know how he had cheek to complain about his red on saturday.

I disagree

he isnt a liability and i think hes a bluddy good center half!
The sending off was harsh i feel on saturday, and morgan knows if he is going to be sent off and usually starts walking and doesnt kick up to much of a fuss, but you could see how upset he was on saturday!

a liability not only for the bookings and sending offs but how many penalties has he been to blame for this season ?

I'd actually like to know how many, cos i bet it's not as many as people think!

and if morgans was a second booking which i dont think it was, what about the hull city defender who gave the penatly away when sharp was clean through

Come on Tino, have you not seen it replayed back. Had the striker gone down it would have been a straight red as Morgs was the final man.

There is no disputing he is a good centre half, and one you certainly wouldn't want to play against, but when somebody gets the beating of him (which happens a lot) he turns and is always suspectable of giving away stupid free kicks / penalties / yellow / red cards.

I think he was lucky to stay on pitch against the Owls, he couldn't handle the pace.

Sharp wasn't clean through fella. he was towards the edge of the box and he also went down very easily (a dive maybe)

Im watching it over and over again on virgin now, and it does seem a second yellow to be fair!

But for me when he is available he is in the starting line up everytime, without doubt!

Edge of the box as was campbell, where as sharp was actually in the box!

Centre-Backs are generally like keepers. If you've not noticed them and you've kept a clean sheet, they've had a good game.

You never ever don't notice Morgan! Play with the brain and you don't need to thunder in and make the spectacular last-ditch tackle most of the time!

No coincidence we've been linked with Timar, to be honest!

I think his 1st booking was unlucky because he seemed to slip when he went to make the tackle.

Looking at the program, since Robson left we have picked up a lot more bookings, but started winning a lot more. Looks like more passion means more bookings and that I think is a small price to pay with the odd suspension.

Your not going to win the argument tino, Robbie will always come up with somet else to say. Even if he's wrong:D

I'm not saying I'm right or wrong.

In my opinion, Morgs IS a liabilty.

Robbie, sharpy didn't dive, we was pulled and then had his ankles clipped, which was alot more than morgan got booked for. So there player should have at least been booked for it.
It was hardly anything on morgans second booking, the ref was letting worse off all the game.

Also a harsh sending off at preston, both were at each other but morgan got booked for it, mellon didnt, he should have walked too.

saying morgan is a liability then wanting lee hendrie back is stupid. He gets booked more than anyone!

Mellon? Fantastic :D

Yes I agree he shouldn't have gone at PNE, but its no surprise he did.

Yellows to games ratio

Lee Hendrie - 1/2.9

Chris Morgan - 1/2.5

Last Season

Hendrie 1/4.14

Morgan 1/3.28

yellows to game, that in the career or just this season? is it also taken into account that morgan has played alot more than hendrie.

i consider stepping on a keeper while looking at him more a liability than someone who catches another player :)

anyway, i wouldnt swap morgan just because he gets sent off abit.

The first ones are for this season fella.

It takes in to account how many cards they have per game they play.

I can definatly see where Tino is coming from and to be fair i don't think Morgan should have been sent off. Yes there was definatly a tug, but Campbell chose to stay up, and he played on with the advantage, he tred to take on Morgs and Morgs stuck the foot in and cleared the ball, I think it was abit harsh looking over it. Sharps was soft yes, i think it was more accidental than anything, he definatly had his heel clipped, but I doubt it it was intentional.

What a joke. Where in the rules does it say if youve been sent of before its an extra game added on.. :|

In Field Offences and Fast Track. Section A. Subsection (g):

(g) ADDITIONAL SENDINGS OFF
Players dismissed from the field of play for a second time or who have been
previously suspended under the Standard Directions set out in Schedule A of these Regulations in the same Season, in addition to the automatic
suspension applicable to the offence, will be suspended for one extra match.

Each subsequent dismissal for a player previously dismissed or suspended
under the Standard Directions at Schedule A in the same season will incur a
further extra match ban. This means that the total suspension imposed will
include an extra game for each previous dismissal or suspension under the
Standard Directions. For example, this means that a player dismissed for a
third time in the same season, or suspended twice under the Standard
Directions at Schedule A and dismissed once, will be suspended for an extra
two matches and so on.

For the purposes of this regulation a previous dismissal in a non FTCM* will
only be taken into account where it was for violent conduct, serious foul play or spitting.

* First Team Competitive Match

According to last night's Star Morgan has now been sent off more than any other Blade, past or present.
