Sheffield United will consider trying to sign Daniel Lafferty and Ethan Ebanks-Landell permanently after manager Chris Wilder indicated he wants the on-loan duo to remain at Bramall Lane. Speaking ahead of tonight’s game against Coventry City, which could see United draw level on points with League One leaders Scunthorpe, Wilder also shed further light on his plans for next month’s transfer window by insisting he wants to “build” rather than overhaul the club’s first team squad. “I don’t know if people outside have plans for any of our people,” Wilder said. “But I think this club has a history of letting good players go at the wrong point in time. I certainly don’t want to be doing that with the way the team is going at the moment. Daniel and Ethan, would that be an option longer term too? We’re looking to build and move on.

Wilder made no secret of his desire to build a strong relationship with United’s hierarchy after being appointed manager and has publicly praised them for their support since taking charge in May. Coaching staff and directors have held a series of meetings over the past few weeks to finalise their strategy for the second-half of the campaign. The futures of Lafferty and Ebanks-Landell, signed on a season long-basis from Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively, are known to have been discussed. Paul Lambert, Wilder’s counterpart at Molineux, is expected to announce whether Ebanks-Landell will be allowed to complete his agreement with United before they face Northampton Town on December 31. Although United sold youngsters Che Adams and Dominic Calvert-Lewin before August’s transfer deadline, Wilder said: “We’re always sensible looking at situations. We did that with Dominic and Che, the money that was being offered and the level we were at. Also their ages and the fact they were keen to make the moves happen. “Unless someone comes knocking on my door and wants to get away then no, we’re not looking to get anybody out. We feel we might make one or two changes in January but that’s all. We’ve worked hard to create that group dynamic. I always hear people saying ‘we’ve got a fantastic team spirit’ But it’s created by the people around the place and in the dressing room. We don’t want to smash that up"

Is this the first time we've heard this officially?

In any walk of life if you get a chance to increase your salary significantly ( double it, treble it) you would not be keen to make a move happen.

Given it was clear they would not be regularly involved in the first team.

I don't think any of us would be totally surprised they wanted to make the move happen.

Wilder said. “But I think this club has a history of letting good players go at the wrong point in time."

This, in isolation is the nail being hit on the head. I take my hat off to him for pointing this out and not being afraid to say to the board "sell the best players and you are fucking us over".

Every time I see and hear a quote from CW it lifts the spirits the same has happened to the players and no doubt maccabe and the prince are feeling the same .utb

Some managers have it some don't Chris has got it in bucket loads

He's coming across as a real leader.

Not sure, but given Adams' subsequent vile and disgusting behaviour towards us, it's pretty obvious what his intentions were.

DCL almost certainly wanted to move to Everton, but who can blame him? You don't turn an offer like that down. I was surprised he attracted their interest because he never dazzled me at United, but he's comes across as a decent lad and I hope he succeeds. Can't say the same for that jug-eared Jordan Slew MK2 at Small Heath however.

Che Adams comes across as nothing more than a spoilt, immature child.

I'm glad that neither he or his other immature childish friends McGahey and McNulty are anywhere near the Lane at the moment.

It's interesting that not one premiership team came in for him this summer when he was there for the taking, yet a couple were interested in the less successful DCL.

My impression of Adams was that he was pretty skillfull, very athletic, but a bit thick (footballing wise. Pointing out that he's thick off the pitch is hardly an observation).

Maybe I'll be proved completely wrong, but I expect him to join the endless list of players that make an impression when they're young because of their natural ability, but quickly get worked out and end up being passed around championship teams that finish 7th.

I'm not even sure he do that well. I suspect he'll keep losing motivation and drop down the leagues until he finishes his career or he'll wake up in his mid-twenties and realise he needs to be hard working and dedicated.

I have it on good authority (a bloke I bumped into in the pub toilets before the Swindon match last saturday - I've never seen him before in my life) that we will be signing a Chesterfield striker in January. "Nailed on" he told me. If he's right I'll be delighted. And if he's right I might have to go and hang around in them pub toilets again to wait to hear of his next snippet.

I thought I'd told you to do one when you peering into my urinal?

You got some queer looks last time, so the least you can is to pretend you are having a slash.

Heard theres a lot of goings on in them pub toilets. I was told not to talk to strangers especially in toilets

You should have waited while he was shaking, then looked down and asked "sauce?"

I'm waiting for a "So what did you have for your tea?" thread to see how long before someone turns it in to a ched thread.

Love how Wilder isnt scared to say how the club has f*cked up with poor decisions in the past.

Refreshing to hear that actually being said in public by a manager!
