CW talking about wanting to bring in players also with a view to next season, players of 'the right age' and 'right attitude' like Jack O Connell, John Fleck and Simon Moore.

Music to my ears, got big hopes for us with this manager

The view to next season is the Championship I assume which means the board are going to have to stump up some decent money, how much will we spend to get these players in?

To be fair, we've had several managers and the owner saying this for numerous years. However, this time I have a little bit of faith we might actually follow the threat through for once.

Flecks arrival really did set a precedence for me.

So where's he looking to strengthen....I certainly think he will want a striker. And probably a replacement for EEL AND Wright. Plus we need a left back of at least Laffertys standard that we own hopefully. I can see McNulty going for good this window, and a good few lads out on loan.

It's a tricky spot in some ways because we need to be very selective in our recruitment. We aren't in our usual position of desperately needing a striker/defender/creative midfielder like we usually are where almost anything's better than making do. We have a good squad with competition for places and whoever we bring in needs to hit a high standard.

It's the right situation to be in, I'm just not used to it.

We can be selective. We might even be able to be ambitious. Who knows?

The problem for me won't be identifying the right players, it will be convincing the player, agent and parent club

Shame all our rivals are in a strong position too. Scunny have cash and Bolton dont exactly need to sell despite their perceived financial position. be nice if someone comes in for Morris or Clough.

Cant remember the last time I was this confident and content, we have a Blade in charge who I cant see leaving for anyone, our top scorer is a Blade who has a point to prove and can see retiring here. our stand out performers in midfield are either new or proving a point, the only issue I see with us being weakened is if EEL is recalled, the irony being I recall some of those who called him a bad signing took comfort in his Loan being re-evaluated in Jan.

Fair play to the board, CW must have been given close to £1m to spend in the summer and looks like being given money again this TW.

I can't recall many, if any, saying he was a bad signing, most were saying at last we've got the big f*** off centre half we've been lacking for 2 over years, since Maguire had left.

Would like to see us extend Coutts' contract beyond June. This would potentially be expensive but essential to hang on to a player who would easily grace the Championship in my view.

Other than ensuring Ebanks-Landell stays or securing a quality replacement, replacing Chapman with someone who can play wide or offer an alternative if Duffy is missing seems to be the only real must have.

IF we can sign a striker who can do what Done does AND score goals AND not mess up the balance of the team then that's just a bonus.

Apart from that it's just going to be a matter of covering any squad players that leave and possibly looking at wing back alternatives. A successful transfer window will be not disrupting what we already have and overloading the squad with warm bodies who never play.

I've said it before. We should put cheeky bids in for Morris and Clough and whoevers else is doing well at Bolton, Scunny and Bradford. We all know it wont be reciprocated. So let the dirty tricks begin.

I have thought since September that the JTW would be an acid test this year as there are two factors to be considered .....

a) will we stand resolute against any offers for our three or four key players in order to preserve the core of a "potential" promotion squad ?
b) will Tufty be given the financial backing by the Board to bring in 3 / 4 key, quality players to turn that "potential" into "likely" ?

I do think that some supporters are in danger of getting a bit carried away with our current promotion chances and recent results against Charlton and Walsall, together with the difficulties we experienced against Bury & Shrewsbury are a stark reminder that we often still lack the quality, particularly in the final third of the pitch, to punish teams and to turn our midfield domination into convincing wins.

Many are saying that Scunny will "fall-away" but that was said about Burton last year and it didn't happen and I suspect that even if Bolton lose Clough in the JTW they will still be a strong side in L1.

I would suggest that we need a striker with a great work-rate but who can also score goals, together with a LWB, a dominant CH ( if we cannot secure EEL ) and possibly a pacey, tricky replacement for Chapman who could come off the bench to change games.

We don't have a lot of quality in depth in the squad at the moment, so injuries and / or suspensions would certainly risk de-railing the promotion plan.

Ched.
A better Lafferty
A new EEL
Cheeky attempt for Jags.

That would sort promotion.

On this point, Brian 'The Blade' (who went to Hillsborough on Tuesday and spent last night on FH bigging the pigs up) spouted his usual bollocks about 'I'll advise Wednesday to spend £6m and promotion is assured'. His two targets? Ched and Maguire. Now anybody wasting half of that sum on these two would be deluded but - in light of the 'Jags is finished' threads, I watched Maguire at Spurs last night. He's utterly immobile, just lumbers about achieving nothing and is mid-Champ at best. He was never, ever PL standard. Unlike the magnificent Kyle Walker.

Harry was known to quite a few as "Leadboots" who only realised his talents when McCabe sold him.

Think he's a championship player but no more.

Don't entirely agree with that. I was at White Hart Lane last night (my uncle and cousins are spurs fans) and it struck me that despite his appearance of immobility (he's a big guy and it feels like he really lumbers around) he reads the game well, has a calm head and is rarely caught out for pace even by top end premiership players. I also noted that he's still capable, at the highest level, of making his trademark surging runs from the back and is generally really comfortable in possession with a decent range of passing. I think he's found his level (imo) and that is top end championship/bottom end of premiership. And he's still a young lad, so you never know.

All just opinions I suppose.

On Walker, I couldn't agree more, top top class. Even in a strong spurs team he stands out as a cut above most of his team mates. He's so aggressive and doesn't fanny about. Spurs were guilty of slowing the ball down too much for much of the game, but whenever Walker got the ball you just expected something to happen, and it often did.
