Good win on Monday against a decent footballing team.

This was the first time this season the 23s played with 3 at the back to match the formation of the first team.

Long........ Wilson Whiteman Semple................ Bennett Reed Slater Brookes Kelly....... Hallam Wright Jnr.

Took 10 mins for the formation to work. Was going to take a bit of time as the younger lads have never played 3 at the back. After going one down the whole team clicked. The work rate was fantastic, the one touch football with lots of movement was great to watch and to be honest United were camped in the Crewe half just not letting them play.
Wilson who was captain ( which i disagree with as Semple is the 23s captain) looked very good, Did not over extend himself but did look

Ben Whiteman at Centre half?
Strange one i agree Swiss...... I genuinely feel it was about giving some players game time rather than looking at him as centre back cover for the first team.
He is not tough enough as a centre back.

I thought that Whiteman had been considered a versatile player for a while? One that can play in similar positions to Basham (CM, CB, RB).

Haven't seen him enough to comment on which is his best but seems to be CM from what others have said (as he has a goal in him).

It stands to reason that if the players are to be given any first team games they need to show they can play in the first team system.

So Whiteman is doing the 'Basham role', tall defensive minded midfielder who can bring the ball out.

Semple wasn't captain but he won't be if he plays for the first team so he needs to show he can follow directions, not just give them out. And, as you say, Wilson needs game time.

It seems to me CW wants to see the kids playing how they would if they were in the first team, so he can assess which, if any, will play a part in the second half of the season, before the JTW opens and we start strengthening.

Spot on BB and another reason which suggests I greatly underestimated Wilder's managerial ability .

It now appears that all areas of the Club from top to bottom are being hard wired in to Wilder ' s way of working .

I didn't think CW had the ability to effectively manage all areas of the Club . I'm happy as Larry that I'm being proved wrong .

I thought he was a central midfielder when i've seen him, but its good education for him to play different positions. Just wondering if its a long term thing or just a one off

If i am being honest Bush the three really younger lads in Semple, Hallam and Slater won't be involved in the first team games remaining. Three of them won't be in CWs thinking when he strengthens in January.

Their development is without doubt at 23s level. Not U18s

Semple was marking a first team centre forward whilst Slater and Hallam were up against first team players coming back to fitness against Crewe.

Next season they will probs go on loan. They will be 19 years old after the end of next season and pushing the first team door then if they keep progressing.

Honestly though Bush, i don't think Whiteman was playing there for any other reason than getting game time

I'm confused now. You said it was an u-23s game so I don't get your comment about the u18s.

Two weeks ago you were calling for these players to be given a chance and saying CW was talking bollocks at the start of the season when he said he was going to give youth a chance. Now you're saying they won't get a chance, with absolute certainty. Which once again gives the impression that you're more ITK than you let on, and is probably why you keep getting asked if you're a parent of one of the players. ;)

Who was MOM? Was it Reed or Brookes?

The three players i mentioned can all still play for the under 18s. All three are now better served playing u23s every week to help there development. That seems to be what is happening.... Is that difficult to understand?

Also anyone who watches the first team can see clearly that youth has not been given a chance, i can fully understand that and have no issue with that, but i also said that he should not have said he would play youth if he clearly was not going to.

SO, Based on all the facts of this season it does not take a brain surgeon to work out that these lads will not be involved this season in the first team and maybe not next season either. I would love to be wrong but one way or another i will not lose too much sleep over it.

FFS if that makes me ITK then so be it.............. I don't know Bush if you watch any of the youth teams or the 23s, and i dont really care one way or another to be honest, but anyone who does watch them and has a general interest in local players coming through the system, will generally come to the same conclusion as me.

I think any point i make is pretty standard and not really ITK or otherwise.

'I don't know Bush if you watch any of the youth teams or the 23s and I don't really care one way or the other to be honest'

Neither of those comments were really necessary.

Enjoy the games.

None of that post was necessary.

Let's be appreciative of a Blade's willingness to keep us informed about the lads rather than risk pissing him off.

You ever going to stop telling people what to do and say? This place is about opinions. Let it slide.

You sir, are also a gentleman, like The Crab on another thread today, too much bickering over the last few days, we are all Blades at the end of the day
The problem on forums is that the written word can be taken out of context very quickly....... Very few on here really post with malice in mind, or at least i would like to think so.

Never been called a gentleman before..... What a great day it is.

Rarely any malice in anything I post, today's effort from me was just not really thinking things through.

If anyone works in H.R however, my malice knows no bounds, they can **** right off the ******* ******* ;)

Come on lads we are all after the same end goal.

I enjoy your posts, lets crack on
Likewise Larky, always interested in the kids, how they develop and all that, hence always asking questions.

Has it occurred to anyone that CW is assessing what he has got before he finalises what business we will do in the JTW....the current midfield 3 is not for changing so could he maybe think Reedy and Ben Whiteman could benefit from going out on loan, if EEL returns to Wolves and we miss out on whatever our targets are is he looking T whether BW could do a job if needed

I think CW is assessing all the time....... I agree some players should go on loan but with the new loan rules Reed and Whiteman may be needed in case of injuries.
This is the big problem with the new loan system, players just short of first team football need to be kept by their clubs.

Is Bennett from the U18s or a triallist??
