MATCH DAY THREAD: Bolton V The Mighty Blades (FACup RND 2)

I wanted us to get through and hopefully draw a big club in the 3rd Round to make some money.

Fucking shambles. This is now how it goes. Bolton draw big team at their place. TV money. Draw the match. Replay on TV. Keep Clough. BUY players.

First time in my lifetime (as a conscious blade) we are not in the third round draw. 3 games without a win. 5 poor performances.

Immediate rivals already beat us twice this season and will thrive on the morale boost. We just secured our play off place. Unless scunny fuck up. And we all know how play off finals finish for us. Drama queen, not I. Thursday we could probably predict now.

Worst ever cup year? And faltering in the league. JTW fax machine crash.

*Tin hat on* I don't give a stuff. I really couldn't give the smallest of stuffs. There may of been a time where advancing in the FA cup was important and something to pride ourselves on, but those days have long gone. For me all of the cups are nothing but a distraction to our very promising campaign.

First time we've not been in the third round since 1982. Disappointing.

Disgusting if you ask me. Cheers Chris. In CW we trust.

Not being funny but this is not going to end well. Morgie are you ready for April?

Meh. Not happy that we lost but I don't particularly care. We've had some good ones over the last few years but there's every chance of getting the likes of Ipswich or Norwich away, not getting a telly spot and not getting a result. Not much cash in the coffers for that and an extra game we could do without.

Ramsdale got a run out, we now know that keeping Brown past January is a bad idea and if Lavery is hoping to continue playing like that then I'd say there might be a case for a new striker in January. I didn't think that side would do very much, but if we'd made a couple of better decisions we quite possibly could have won that.

Onwards and upwards.

I don't care that we lost, but conceding 3 in a game that we mostly controlled is awful. Our defence this past few weeks has a tendency to turn off.

Not sure if you are being serious with this post. however just in case you are you obviously didn't notice the 5 team changes plus Jake Wright out . Bolton made one change. We are not even half way through the season and we are a handful of points off top spot. A strange time to be slashing wrists don't you think ?

Good stuff. That's another entirely pointless competition we don't have to be a part of for the rest of the season. Lavery got a full 90 under his belt & Billy got a bit of a rest. Hopefully came out of that one injury free & ready for Swindon.

Not sure how any of that can be called good stuff. Wanting us to lose is shameful and pig-like, Lavery was shit and should have been hauled off after his stupid lazy booking, Billy needs a goal, and even if we're injury-free, Clarke's total non-performance poses a selection problem as he shouldn't get picked based on that.

A win, another good cup run, Lavery being found out for being crap and replaced by Sharp early enough to turn things around, coming out of it injury-free with a bit of positive momentum heading into the next league match would have been good stuff. That was crap.

They just beat our reserves, by a goal. Bit of perspective?

Don't you think Lavery and Clarke need time ? Don we really need to start creating scapegoats ?

Given the FA Cup or League Cup are the only proper bits of silverware we have any chance of winning before I die I'm always disappointed to get knocked out of either competition.

Ask any Wigan, Pompey, Coventry, Oxford etc fan if you disagree !

To me Clarke and Lavery looked like two players really short of match practice, I don't see what Done does better other than run around a lot, maybe it's just me ............... and Pinchy

Time.

Yeah. That would do it ;)

PS it's December. Perhaps you think by Christmas 2017 would be OK ????????

A handful of games isn't enough thou is it. Some fans were saying Fleck and Duffy were shit at the beginning of the season and didn't want them anywhere near the 1st team.

So yes..A little time. If Wilder doesn't think they are good enough he will ship them out.

P'S I assume you think it is ok to write off players after a handful of games ?

I have (correctly) written players off after 45 minutes before.

The writing is on the wall. READ IT.

You don't mention the ones you have incorrectly written off after them same period thou :-)

Really? Get a grip. We've had good times with cup runs recently but in the end it's got us no further. What's the harm in CW doing it his way, at least give him a chance

Done and Sharp miss a lot of chances. However with Done and Sharp upfront we create a lot more chances. Because both are willing to run into the channels it pulls defences apart and allows the wingbacks and midfielders to get more central. Incredibly hard to defend against at this level.

I'll give Lavery a bit longer. He is younger and has scope to improve.

But the improvement will need to be both significant and rapid.

As for the other bit...................

For me , Done frees up little pockets of space in the oppositions rearguard for the likes of Duffy , Freeman and Lafferty to exploit . Most importantly though , he contributes to leaving Sharp in and around the penalty area in space . Sharps a shitliner par excellence and Done facilitates this .

Edit . Just seen and liked your post robbie . Spot on mate .

Now you're putting words in my mouth. Who said I wanted us to lose? I genuinely don't care that we now don't have to participate further in a competition which we're not going to win, but if I were to take a loss either today or next Saturday, then it would have been today. It's a distraction we don't need. Simple as that.

Lavery was ineffective, which is understandable considering how little he's actually played over the last god knows how long. Getting a full 90 for him is a step in the right direction.

Billy does need a goal. He also needs a bit of a break - Which he got today.

Clarkes non performance surely doesn't pose a selection problem... just don't pick him? Problem solved.

Do you see the difference in results between when Done starts and when Clarke starts?

You'd think it'd be a real ' no brainer '' wouldn't you . But still some people fail to see this .

Whilst I understand people's frustration with Done in front of goal , and let's face it he's missed some absolute sitters , there is a clear and undeniable link to our performances and wins and Done starting with Sharp upfront .

Not much to argue against there mate IF it ends in promotion. But arguably when it hasn't we at least had 2 cup semis to sweeten the taste. Hopefully promotion is the pill this year.

we move on to thursday night and focus solely on the task ahead
no outside distraction
no pull on the resourses

26 games between now and the end of April are all that matters now
trying to glean 53 to 60 points out of the 78 available
