Well no derby double for the pigs...................1914 the last time.:D

BT man of the match and i've called him lazy ass before......... sorry BT.
Kenny and Tonge next best........ rest of our players not a good night. Cotterill was as bad as he was good on Saturday and Quinn was woefull.
Still i'd written off this season long ago thanks to Mr Robson and Mr Robinson, now they've both gone so here is looking to next season but plenty of work for Mr McCabe and SUFC to do close season.

The behavior of the pig fans in the 'home' sections of BDTBL was irresponsible at best......... they should have been arrested by the police/stewards and charged with inciting a riot.......... shame on you....... you've let yourselves, football and Sheffield down.

I hope the first job on his list is convincing Mr Beattie to stick around :)

Imagine him in a team that are actually playing to their potential and creating chances for the majority of the season?

I agree that we should be looking to make sure he sticks around. but what would your choice be between keeping him or selling if we were to receive a very exceptional bid?

I want him to stay, i do think that he lacks some commitment sometimes but you cant deny that he scores the goals, my only worry would be if an offer comes in which turns his head, and then we keep him by giving him an improved contract............

.......not so sure that would be an advantage

Have to agree, it just emphasises how bad Mr.Robson was at management.

We need to keep him and add some QUALITY players around him.
Thats my opinion of how you build a team.........................

Depends what you mean by very exceptional. Every player has their price.

I disagree on the commitment part, it would have been very easy for him to have sulked at the rest of the team all season. He could have quite easily "extended" his injuries and sat picking up his wages. But he's been banging them in and putting in the effort all season.
He's also been a calming influence and a big talker on the pitch, more recently putting plenty of time into helping out Billy Sharp, constantly talking and helping him. Whenever asked, he's always maintained that he's loving it here and enjoying being a blade.

As to whether or not we should give him an improved contract in that situation, that all depends on what he is actually on. There has been lots of speculation, but i've been told by a pretty reliable source (who should know), that its not even close to what most people claim.
I've always been a big advocate of keeping to our tight wage structure and would hate for us to blow it wide open for one player; but I think you've also got to weigh up how much a 20+ goal a season striker is worth or would cost us to replace. Whilst keeping the balance in not upsetting the rest of the squad.

Like BB says and i've said a few times recently. He's the sort of player we should be building a team around, lets hope we get the chance!

How do you mean?

Robson signed Beatie so i would say we owe him a big thank you for that at least. He was an awful manager and i know that many fans will refuse to give him credit for anything but i firmly beleive that James Beatie would not have signed for us if it had not been for Robsons involvement.

I think the cirticism of Cotterill is a bit harsh too, he faded in the second half but i lost count of the number of times that he went past his man and delivered a cross in the first half. All of our play went down his flank and so he understanably tired in the 2nd half; his performance suffered as a result.

On the whole, i thought it was a cracking match but one that i thought we were lucky to get anything out of because of the way we deffended. Wednesday had a number of situations that they failed to capitalise on to really put the game to bed. I thought our lack of pace was what let us down but even so i thought the midfield and forward line played well with us getting very little luck with the bounce of the ball.

I was especially surprised that, after we got the game back to 2-2 we failed to push on for the winner; rather the contrary in fact. I suppose we probably had put so much into chasing the game that we were running on empty from that point.

It was a great game, real blood and thunder stuff and i for one hope the pigs stay up so that we can look forward to the same again next season.

You see, this is interesting to me as someone who had to suffer and work for the majority of the first half of the game. Because of this my only option was to put the radio on my phone and listen to the commentary. There were some crisitsisms about Beattie especially in the first half, when Cotteril made some runs down the wing from the commentary Beattie (and sharp at times) were not in the box and this was commented on quite often making Beattie sound a lazy sod and Cotteril was man of the match just for his first half performance.

Still, it's interesting to hear another viewpoint when you're not there.

Cotteril was man of the match just for his first half performance.

mmmmm........... frst 15 mins he was OK..... then downhill all the way... quite a few 50/50's he chickened out of, just my opinion don't mean to say i'm reight.

I concur intirely. Maybe the "commitment" comment was wrong, maybe i should have said effort, as what i was trying to get at is that during the robson period he looked at times lacking in effort. But this was probably more to do with confidence than anything else as it was the same sort of time that his scoring dried up.

As for the "Very exceptional offer" I would need locking in a rubber room if i even thought that we would be offered £20m for him. But more around the £7m to £9m. I would be very surprised if we were to get an offer of that, but if we did im not sure that we would be able to just dismiss it.

I have no doubt that the players are not on anywhere near what is guesstimated by the majority of the fans, and again i agree that our current wage structure is very important and i believe a key point in team unity (No player is vastly out earning another and therefore there can be no animosity about that). We seriously need to keep things in order on that front.

As for building a team around BT, I do agree but I'm a strong believer that the team needs to be built around a strong backbone. By that i mean that Kenny and BT are key to that backbone and Killa is becoming more the player that we need at the back. What we really need is a KEY midfield player to complete the backbone of the team. Speed may well be that player but only on the short term, blackwell needs to be looking for that player to complete the backbone and shape the team around them.

But thats just my opinion

Either way i think that BT is an important part of the team

How do you mean?

Robson signed Beatie so i would say we owe him a big thank you for that

Performances speak for themselves............. with Mr Robson the whole team were underperforming suggesting to me that Mr Robson's management skills were lacking.........

as for signing BT.......... Thank you Mr Robson.

Like I said, it was from what I heard on the radio, you never get to hear what players are doing off the ball and I think the majoirty of the 50/50 balls are commented on with something like "and Cotteril (or whoever) just misses out on/or can't get the ball". Obviously as someone who was there you will see it differently.

I don't like to take what I hear from the radio or even what you see on TV, it's still best to be there and see it......gutted I couldn't go last night, change of job me thinks :D

Thanks for that gez, this was one reason for my original point. I know that good ol' Reg can be humorous at times with his views, but this was something that he mentioned on a few occasions in the first half, which also made me pick Cotterill for the MOTM

A very commited Leeds fan once told me, just before we signed him, that Killa needed to have someone with a bit of experience and/or quality beside him and then he shines.

Presumably a confidence thing, seems to be managing off his own back these days however.

He's been immense at times since his early season scapegoating.

Despite his limited playing opportunities, could Ehiogu have something to do with this, especially on the training ground and around the club? As I have not been to many games this season it's difficult to pinpoint Killas turn of form. Just wondered if Ehiogu may have been more useful than people think.

Kenny?
He had a mare! At fault for the second girl no doubt and thought he could have done more for the first-Id bet me house Benno would have come for that cross

Mind you credit Kenny after - he finished well and saved us losing the comeback but a very poor mistake for the goal :(

My god you're harsh man. Songo'o's (enough apostrophes?) shot was an absolute stinger.

60 goals a season :D

Well it looks more promising than first thought

From the BBC

James Beattie has has said he feels he has been rejuvenated by his first season at Sheffield United.

Beattie's stunning free-kick in the Steel City derby on Tuesday brought his goal tally to 20 for the season.

"I've enjoyed this year, with what happened at Everton, where I wasn't being treated very well," Beattie told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"The managers that have been here have treated me very well and with respect, which is all I ever ask."

The striker added: "The fans have been great to me too."

Beattie was brought to Bramall Lane for £4m in the summer of 2007 by Bryan Robson and has continued to excel under new boss Kevin Blackwell.

The frontman's impressive strike rate has come despite missing two months of the season with a knee injury sustained on Boxing Day against Blackpool.

"It's always easier when you score but the people around the city have warmed to me and are always very courteous when they see me," Beattie added.

You're welcome to my house for a cup of tea any day Mr Beattie. You'll have to bring some biscuits though because my Mum always buys shit ones.

Tunnocks Caramel Wafers if you will?

Cheers Beats ;)

if i see BT around, i would gladly get on my knees and kiss his feet.
