Our best team

I think you perhaps underestimate the role which Wright plays. He goes about his business relatively unnoticed as he is always in the position where he needs to be, but he is constantly talking to the other two Centre Halves as well as Fleck and Coutts. He's a captain in everything except he doesn't have the arm band.

After Moore, he's the next name on the team sheet for me.
Unseen work eh? Where have I heard that before?

When we're at home in games we'll dominate I'd start EEL in the middle with Basham and O'Connell either side to offer more on the ball and contribute to attacks. The last two home games being perfect examples. The 7 I've named are the ones who should always start, in any game.

I think Tuesday showed that even in games we are going to dominate we still need Wright in there to be the one who maintains concentration and does the sweeping up as the others don't seem to be as positionally aware as he is. I don't think Walsall would have scored that goal if he was playing.
Really hope he is back fit for the Swindon game.

I swear Basham has been at fault for nearly every goal we have conceded since he came back from suspension.

He's now played CB CM and RWB and wasn't as good a the player he replaced.
Great squad player but I really feel wilder is shoehorning him in every week.

Done does the work to free up sharp and others, Billy is the best striker in the league leave him to get in goal scoring positions.

All the other attackers have their attributes but done should start.
Bash is a good utility player to have so slightly disagree with your assessment. However we seem to be shoehorning him in to the detriment of the team after he lost his place in midfield. 100% agree with your starting line up though

A 352 formation has to be organised because done well, the outside cb's can go forward and become the full back

I think this is a strength and a weakness for us at the moment. O'Connell and Ebanks-Landell are getting acres of space in fantastic positions and the opposition don't seem able to deal with it at all. The downside is that they're O'Connell and Ebanks-Landell so we're often reliant on two big centre-backs to pick the final pass / cross.

At home, against the 90% of sides who will just come to defend, I'd like us to swap one of those of two for a defender who will be weaker in the air but can play. I think Lafferty would be perfect - his delivery is good and the defensive side of his game should stand up to the, usually very limited, test.

I agree with the OP. Basham is OK in a number of positions but in each of those positions, we have a player who is better than OK. So Bash shouldn't start when everyone is available. He's able back up for a number of positions which is a good thing to have. I think the issue is that Wilder is desperate to reward his attitude as it sends the right message to the rest of the team. Let's not forget, we only get to see the team play for 90 minutes whereas Wilder has to contemplate personalities, team spirit, how his decisions might bring out the best or worst in others etc. Overall, he seems to have been getting a lot more right than wrong so whilst in pure footballing terms Bash wouldn't be a starter for me, I can appreciate that Wilder might have good reasons for picking him and is better placed to make that call. That said, the best performance I've seen was the Vale game during Basham's suspension.

I'd be looking to that as a way of changing the game rather than starting with it. We can concede too much solidity if we go too gung ho from the off. If a team has a man sent off or it's complete one way traffic, probably bring Chapman on for a CB and drop Lafferty back.
