This opinion will upset a lot of fans on here but I'm just being honest about what I saw last night. I loved it when EEL stuck in that last gasp goal and went berserk with the rest of the fans but I must say I thought EEL had his worst game for us since he signed. His passing was poor and he was beaten in the air and on the floor by Vaughan on several occasions, maybe it was just one of those games.
I would like to see him stay for the rest of the season but won't loose any sleep if he decides to go, I'm confident CW will bring in someone as good if not better ( Webster ) but think his cult standing with the fans will leave the management/ board under attack once more for not spending silly money on him.
Tin hat on.

Yeh fair point.

Towards the end of the match I was also thinking that EEL had his worse game
But it wasn't a normal match. In the 1st half the match was too easy and he hardly had any defending to do.

In the 2nd half he was playing out on the right wing and looked quite poor and not comfortable on the ball.
But he's a central defender so will never have the control of a Coutts etc.

Regards EEL we should have an open minded "c'esr la vie" attitude. If we get promoted then we offer good Championship money. If he can better offers elsewhere then let him go and we bring in someone else who wants to play for the club. We don't want mercenaries. I'm sure Wilder will know what he's doing and have contingency plans and alternative star defenders who mighf end up being better than EEL.

Not his best game and they had some big, strong lads. Who was the other one causing issues, Pope?

When players are not at their best but we still take 3 points, I can live with that, for now.

Regards EEL or any player we want to sign.

It's like having a really good looking girlfriend and you know that plenty of other men might fancy her.
What do you do?

If you're insecure you'd spend loads of money on her, buy her clothes, perfume.
Take her away to fancy hotels etc. She loves the lifestyle so you get out a loan to buy her more things to keep her happy because you think she might choose someone else.

No, have confidence in yourself and the club.
We make EEL a sensible offer which provides a top wage. If his agent says "yeh but Burton Albion have offered £1000 a week more", then we tell him to go there if he prefers that offer and we bring in the alternative defenders who might end up being better than EEL. No player is bigger than the club.

One thing in particular Wilder seems good at, compared with his predecessors is to find the best in players and bring it out. EEL has played well for us but last night showed his limitations that's all. He's a good centre half but he's not on the basis of the last 2 games someone who we can expect to adapt easily to right side midfield, unless he learns from it and gets better. It would be a good move for him to join us, but if it doesn't work out move on to someone else.

Regards EEL or any player we want to sign.

Darn it, I just bought him a bottle of Cheryl's Storm Flower Platinum.

I'd bust a gut to keep him on loan for the rest of the season. Then, and if,we go up I'd think whether he was good enough to play in the Championship for a club looking to progress upwaeds. Only then would I look to make an offer,or not to Wolves.
I'm pretty sure Wilder has all those thoughts covered and probably more. Hence the ongoing interest in the bloke whose name eludes me at the mo.

He might have been a bit nervous playing against his old club.

Especially with the score being 0-0 for 92 mins.

EEL is what, still only 23/24 and a young lad making his way in the game.

Last night might not have been one of his better games overall, but for a lot of that game he found himself out of position, and still played manfully, bombing forward, playing passes and putting a lot of crosses in, despite it not being his natural position. Lets not forget he is a central defender.

He has plenty of time to develop and progress, and at the minute Bramall Lane is a perfect environment for him to progress.

And just to bring a brevity to my point, last season our central defenders were selected from a talent pool including the likes Neill Collins, Jay McEveley, David Edgar.

I can see why it's being said and it's a fair enough point, but skillful, technical proficiency isn't what he was brought in for. He's brought a much-needed backbone to the defence and his positional sense has brought positive outcomes on both ends of the pitch. Chris Morgan at his peak played very much the same role.

A good team contains players who bring their own particular strengths and talents to the pitch, and looking at the players we have now, the balance is well poised. We have the shape and structure of a formidable side for this division, something that was very much lacking in previous seasons.

He'll be at the heart of everything we do throughout the season one way or the other.

Morgan had some shockers when he first joined us. Players become more consistent as they mature.

He was basically a wide midfielder last night.

Imagine being a centre half doing attacking drills all night with the strikers and not looking a bit out of place.

Being honest, it's more a grower than a showa, I told my missus the night I met her she was going to get all 10" when I got her home!!......................I'm still paying in installments!
Fortunately, it's big enough to fill a pram!

Except Done. He can't be dropped in case it pisses him off, apparently.

Not in my universe, by the way...

Passing definitely not his strong point. I noticed when we play 3 at the back the passes along the back line bypass him, pretty sure that's a tactical decision.

Great at defending/heading (to state the obvious). The pluses outweigh the negatives at this level, but I do think he'd be found out in the Championship.

Nor mine, if it's my post you're referring to. My original point was in respect of putting him in the u23s, not dropping him. Every striker knows that if he goes through a long period without scoring he could get dropped. That's fair.
Being made to play in the reserves is considered a 'punishment' by first team players, unless they're coming back from injury.

It was indeed, but I understand your explanation.

We rarely replace with better, so if he gets recalled by Wolves in January we are up shit creek.

He wont have a great match everytime and if he did then he would not be on loan with us in the first place.

Got a feeling Done will be on his way in the JTW .

His CV of Rochdale , Barnsley , Rochdale , Blades say it all for me . Be a good player but inconsistent league 1 standard with no improvement , that's why never played in a higher league .

I was in the company of Keith Hill last month and joked Done was his bastard son like Brayford is to Clough .

Hill said he would have him back tomorrow or JTW , but would have to be a PX , no dosh . May have been tongue in cheek , but Done does not pull up any trees for me , but he is just being what he has always been all his career - well Matt Done , what you see is what you get , no more no less .

I can see why you thought that but in the context of the match he was needing to go forward much more than normally to support the attack and isn't the best at passing so he was also under a bit more pressure when he was defending (not many last night )
However give me his total commitment any time even with the odd mistake and remember he is still only 22 ish ?so bound to make the odd mistake but more than makes up for it with his threat at set pieces and yesterday with his well taken goal

Let's be right.

Ethan is there to defend. He's there to head it clear, kick it clear, outmuscle forwards and get his blocks in.
It's been clear from the off he's not Beckenbauer, Ferdinand etc that's why we have Coutts and fleck coming and getting the ball from deep.

Not many out and out centre halves can go and play right wing. Right back is even beyond most. Totally different game, and different physique needed.

Agree with the sentiment that we should not be looking to break the bank for him, he can't get in a struggling championship side now, and if we are going to go up this may well be his level. I am happy for him to just extend his loan til the end of the season and we can assess our options then.
That would suit him too....Wolves have the option of another year anyway....failing that he will have just (hopefully) been a success in a successful Blades side and have plenty of sides after his signature.

Not a bad striker at this level either TBF.

Id like any one to name any center half that never has an off day
so EEL s pass ratio wasnt great
What are we expecting from a championship at best level center back ,,, perfection
Wolves have hovered in the lower reaches of the championship as they have OK players
People slag off Stones at Man City ffs for an array of faux pas and he cost 50 million

its fucking hard to satisfy blades
unless they are impeccable every second of every game its ooh hes not as good as we thought
perhaps he shit
mind boggling

we could slag off for England

Spot on ,same old problem of looking at what a player cant do than what he can do. As TD said he is there to bring strength and a backbone to our defence that we haven't had for years. No other striker this season has bullied us this season ,whereas last season it was every game. It was the same problem with Coutts and Done and others ,look at what they can do rather than what they cant.

By the way, before we say too much. he save the day away at Fleetwood, scored two against Port Vale and saved us last night. If he scores one more he can go on this list...........

You know how it works mate. He's had a massive effect on our fortunes and we've looked a better team defensively since the first few minutes that he came on as sub. To add to that, as an added bonus he's also won us several points and is our second highest goal-scorer. That can't be right, time to dissect him and disprove him.
