I didn't go today but looking at the team there were no strikers and we scored six! a bit like under cloughy in his early days, I realise we were playing a poor side but to score six is a good effort, last season we would probably have won 1-0 and played poorly in a boring game, well done Wilder and Knill, I am very impressed, bring on chezzy, another good performance and a 3-0 win,

Agree Boxer, whoever the opposition and whichever way you slice it 6-0 is about as emphatic as you can wish for and as you say without a striker on the pitch we still stuck 3 past them.

When you consider Vale should have been 5 or 6 and we should have had more in other games it's amazing that our goal tally isn't bigger.

Chezzy will rise to the occasion next week but I still expect a fairly comfortable win.
4-1 Blades (Billy, Scougs, Duffy and Chapman with Ched scoring for them)

I couldn't see where a goal was coming from pre match having seen the team sheet, but Wilder pulled a blinder. The line up required huge movement accross the midfield to create and exploit attacking options and it didn't take long for everyone to get on the same page. Scoogs was magnificent as the fulcrum and everyone played their part. An invaluable opportunity to develop attacking options in real time.
10/10 for all those who played today and 11/10 for Wilder. Outstanding management.

6 goals & while we were resting Billy for the Grimsby game, well done.

Did you go sbt, who were the stand out players, how did the younger lads fit in and perform

I'm afraid I had a Seniors' Cup ⛳️commitment today so couldn't make it. Did the performance match the score line? The BBC "highlights" and stats certainly suggest so.

Yes I did mate. The 11 starters were all very good. Scougall and Chapman stood out,but everyone stepped up. Hunted in packs when looking for possession and used the ball well when we had it. Things dropped off late 2nd half when Brooks and Whiteman came on then picked up at the finale for Chapmans delightful chipped 3rd goal.
Best thing for me was the complete focus, determination, communication and stunning workrate of EVERYONE when we didn't have the ball, and a complete willingness to get involved and contribute when we did.
Think Barca. But think 3rd rate Barca.
And there's absolutely fucking nothing wrong with that at this level and considering how far Wilder has brought us already from the basket case we've been for half a decade.
I an totally convinced Wilder will deliver.

Some have and will bring up the paucity of theopposition.
I say this.
Last season and for the previous few we would have struggled to get past todays opponents.

They were as dire a team as has been to the Lane over the past 5 years (apart, maybe, from us at times).

Yes they were. But we played a 2nd string. Today was about carrying forward the sea change in mental strength and desire to sweat for the shirt. Everyone passed with flying colours.

I'll get the first bit out of the way, and that's that we won't play another side as poor as that for the rest of this season and some time after it. But we more than did our part. Coutts and Fleck looked like masterminds today the way they read the play, picked out every run, and had total control of the game. The off the ball movement did a lot of work for them though and there was always someone ahead wanting the ball. Scougall had a good game too. The bulk of the credit today though goes to Chapman. Far more than they could handle. Just watch his finish for the hat-trick.

Big positive is that Lavery came on and looked very sharp, pulled off some nice tricks, and should've had a goal. Brooks showed a couple of very neat touches and turns to give us a glimpse of why he's been so highly rated.

The defence weren't really troubled. Ramsdale made one routine save in the first half and that was more or less it. Anything that came either in the air or on the floor was snapped up by our back line, and mostly the opposition didn't make it that far forward. Felt sorry for the young lad in goal as it was freezing cold and wet out there and he had to stand there and watch the game from afar.

You get the impression that even in today's miserable conditions the lads are loving their football right now. It's novel watching a United side that isn't happy with 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, or even bloody 5-0. They still want the ball, they're still harassing the opposition, and they all want to get forward and add to the goal tally.

I really wasn't looking forward to the game today but I've come away feeling pretty good about it.

Yeah, fully agree, SBT (apart from the 2nd string bit - it was mostly a first team tbf). Like you say, the attitude & application was outstanding today. And we played some excellent passing football at times. Great to see.

What I like about Wilders teams is that 1 or 2-0 just isn't good enough. Unlike Clough and Adkins teams we really go for the kill when it would be easy for us to let the tempo drop. Even at 5-0 we hassled them and with all due respect to those that played it could easily have been doubled figures if Sharp had played. As SBT says they all put a real shift in. ALF called it right when he said they were a poor side (can't remember the last team so poor) but that's not our problem. You can only beat what's in front of you.

Exactly SBB. It's like the filthy pig scum losing 14-0 to some outfit.
Can't for the fucking life of me remember who. Eh ALF.:)

Having not realised it was a 2pm kick off I only made it for the 2nd half. Thanks to Rooks for sorting me out. Absolute star as ever!

At 3-0 at half time I thought I might've missed the goals. Not a chance. 2nd half we looked a huge class above. Duffy, fleck and Coutts all looked quality and just played the ball from flank to flank. Tempo was fairly steady, we stepped it up a little at times but we were neat, tidy and very well organised.

Lavern looked to get on the ball and looked physical, but lacked a first or second touch, so today will have helped him

Brooks, chapman and whiteman all wanted the ball and chased a lot. All three showed some good touches and will have done their chances no harm at all.

I'd imagine that Lavery will start v Grimsby to get another 45 under his belt (at least)

Barca and Spain have lined up 4-6-0 plenty of times. Maybe we just know that's where we're heading

Did I play you today? I lost on the first extra hole by the way.

No mate. I was in a Stableford and managed a modest 47 points....

I love match play though, especially when it's tight.

I ❤️ ⛳
