The paper claims that Warnock asked players to pay him if they wanted to play in the first team. Apparently this was revealed in a House Of Commons select committee. I wonder if there will be any claims about his time as Blades manager?

Apology for typo errors in the thread title :(

Is there any more to the story (in terms of evidence) other than the Pincheon tweets from ages ago?

The Chair of the Culture Select Committee quoted Puncheon in the Commons. Because of Parliamentary privilege the Daily Telegraph can repeat it without risk of being sued.

No idea whether this story has any foundation or not, but it does stir a memory i have back to the (i think) the Triple Assault season.....

We were winning a game at home comfortably, and Warnock wanted to bring the Chief on in added time. The ref didn't allow him and blew for FT, to which our Neil gave the ref a barrage of verbals. I did think it odd at the time - why did it really matter ??

You can say what you want under Parliamentary Privilege.

Let's see if they repeat them outside of that forum.

Read Gillespies book.

I'll also raise you Hamilton Ricard.

Has anyone from the FA answered the committed question as to why they didn't investigate rather than just fine the player?

That's a misleading summary of the story. The paper isn't claiming that or revealing anything new. They are just reporting that the MP quoted Puncheon's tweets from years ago. Nothing new to add at all in terms of facts or evidence.

Warnock has said it was all investigated at the time, so (if true) the MP is talking b***ocks. Shouldn't they try and establish a few facts before abusing parliamentary privilege?

<< Warnock said in a statement: "These allegations are completely and utterly false.

"The FA Commission considered all of the evidence in detail in 2014 and it found that the allegations which were published about me were unfounded. Any suggestion that the FA failed to investigate this matter is simply untrue.

"In fact, Mr Puncheon apologised to me and removed the allegations from his Twitter account. The FA fined him £15,000 and he was warned as to his future conduct.

"I am disappointed that these allegations have been repeated after Mr Puncheon’s apology and after the FA investigated fully. If anyone had asked me the truth before publication, I would have pointed them to the FA website, where the facts are all easily accessible." >>

What the FA investigation concluded at the time
The FA Commission's verdict said in conclusion: "We were satisfied that the correct sanction for this offence would be a fine and a warning as to Mr. Puncheon’s future conduct. In reaching an appropriate amount of the fine we had regard for Mr. Puncheon’s net income from football as well as the standard penalties even though this is a non-standard case.

"The Members were of the opinion that this was a serious breach in that Mr. Puncheon had published unfounded allegations of dishonesty about another individual on his Twitter account.

Neil Warnock and Jason Puncheon
"Having awarded Mr. Puncheon credit for his admittance of the charge and the mitigation as listed above, which we reflected by way of a reduction of 25%, we ordered that Mr. Puncheon be fined the sum of £15,000 and be warned as to his future conduct."

Puncheon's mitigation reflected he had swiftly deleted the comments from his Twitter account and then posted an apology. It also noted that a 'settlement between him [Puncheon] and Warnock had been agreed.'

Puncheon had no previous record of misconduct and did not appeal the charge.>>

Warnock and Blackwell met someone in a hotel.......you know the rest!

I've heard very similar allegations a few years ago about Warnock in the the same season.
Got to think there's no smoke without fire, but who cares about Warnock now , he's always been a Neil Warnock fan first and foremost.
Up the blades.

There were very strong rumours about an old school manager who used to threaten first team players that they were going to get picked out of position for the reserves midweek if they didn't bung him some dosh....all unsubstantiated of course !

Yeah. It's not like Allison or Pesky ever came on as sub and contributed to a late winning goal or anything.

The only surprise is that things like this haven't come to light more often. Footballs an insanely lucrative industry, it's naive to expect that those who participate in it aren't going to want to rake it in whilst they can.

There's been speculation over managers being bent for decades. Don Revie and Brian Clough being just two examples.

Remember the transfer bungs scandal a few years ago, which was to blow the lid off a whole culture of corrupt behaviour in the game but weirdly died down? The thing I remember most is Luton manager Mike Newell threatening to expose certain individuals. It never happened, the FA produced what could be deemed a whitewash of a report and Newell hasn't been employed in the game in any capacity since 2009.

The game will never be clean. Too many vested interests from top to bottom.

Segers "defence" being the money came from afar ringing Gang. Was he ever questioned let alone prosecuted? A guilty verdict for him or Fashanu would have blown the league wide open, it was never going to happen although anyone at Plougb Lane to see Fashanus Harlem Globetrotters impression could be forgiven for thinking the judge must be a fucking moron.

Apart from the fact Newell has been coaching Accrington for however long?

Bruce Grobbelaar was the only one actually charged I think, and even he got off because they believed the pretty shoddy excuse that he was "gathering evidence" on match-fixing with the intention of going to the police.
Bearing in mind that this all happened in the season we got relegated, and questions have been raised about exactly what happened between Wimbledon and Everton that day.
Steve Cowens alludes to this in one of his books. He once asked enquired about this to Graham Stuart, and he was very coy on the subject.

Up the blades.

I had contacts with a close contact to a player when Warnock was manager and was told Warnock wanted a slice of the appearance money. Whether it was true or to what extent I've no idea. Got the impression it was common practice. Also I would imagine that it's impossible to prove. Rumours can sometimes be taken with a pitch of salt.

Puncheon HATES Warnock can't find too much information why exactly, but from what I can gather it's mostly down to when Warnock went on Talksport and said that he wouldn't trust Puncheon to take a penalty. As someone who's long followed Warnock's career I can't say i'm at all convinced by this, he always seems to the best by the team, and even if his decisions have been wrong they're very rarely suspect. He's just a good Championship manager, he can't cut it in the top tier, and actually I feel a bit sorry for him they his reputation is getting tainted by such a groundless accusation.

Did this player give Warnock money?
Was he not picked if he didn't? Or picked if he did?
How many in the squad were giving Warnock money at a time? All of them?
How did the transactions take place and where?
Up to 20 players at a time queueing outside his office door with their brown envelopes?
Or maybe 20 separate clandestine meetings in underground car parks scattered around the city?
Neither method seems very practical.
Maybe they just set up a direct debit but then there would be some proof.
Still happening in Puncheon's era apparently but nobody has managed to capture anything on tape or mobile phone.

Football in being bent shock.

Enough of this seditious talk people or expect an injunction or two from their lawyers.

You won't be able to afford to contest them because you don't earn £100,000 a week ;)

It's because he's got no enemies in football and is so universally loved by all that the microscope has never been put on him. Obviously it's all true, because everyone has repeated the same rumour. It's like a 20-year Morsy rumour thread.
