Was just going to say we should still be able to outbid Rotherham and any of the other strugglers in the Champ...FiH! Have you seen the bottom of the Championship? There's probably only the Milllers who wouldn't be a threat.
I'd rather play in a promotion side than one facing a relegation battle. They'd have to offer a lot more money.

Eel score again
Dont jnow wher
Dont know when
But we know EEL score again
Some sunny day

Do you know BLT, that's actually quite good. Not that you've actually typed what you wanted to type but the trick with these chants is they have to be really simple most of the time. The GCB is a bit of an exception in that regard. Need to work on both spalling and apostrophe's though

I jnow what you mean.
I did think your "bless" comment was very un-peteblade like earlier. I was expecting a right ding dong having read the early posts on this thread. You two not friends then ?

It's more unrequited love on his part than anything serious.

Even I get bored of arguing sometimes.

Do you know why the Eel has been so impressive and O'Connell as well?

They are both young, fit, strong and committed players, but they are both still young and callow. I genuinely think they are benefitting immensely from playing as a part of a back three and benefitting from having the solid and experienced Wright playing alongside them, which means neither of them leave United looking exposed when they push further forward, and Wright is a good insurance policy for both of them I case either of them makes an error. This also means that they can with a little bit of freedom, takes the pressure of both of them and gives both of them the confidence to demonstrate what good players they both are.

Agreed. That back 3 works fantastically well. It emphasises the strengths and minimises the weaknesses of our players.

O Connell and EEL are raw and will make the odd rick (they’ve both given away goals this season following individual errors) but both are very good at attacking the ball. Both are big, strong guys who are also fairly mobile.

Wright doesn’t have their mobility, height or strength but he has experience and knowhow. He coaches them through the game and provides that insurance to allow them to attack everything with confidence.

All 3 have their weaknesses but Wilder has set them up in such a way as to negate them and emphasises their strengths which is so important to our chances. Same in midfield with the likes of Coutts having the luxury of being in a 3, Freeman being best accommodated at wing back and Sharp and Done still being able to play as a 2. This system really suits us. Well done to Wilder for finding a way of playing to our strengths sooner rather than later.

EEL is, as PeteBlade says, a colossal mountain of a man. He swats opponents away like they’re flies and looks a real weapon in the opposing penalty area on set pieces.

It’s funny as technically, he’s one of our worst footballers but makes up for it with physical attributes that are just ridiculous.

As for the chant

“Feed the eel and he will score”

“Beeeeeeeeaaast”

Yes, see, that was the exact same point I was making just with fewer words...

Give over PeteBlade. You clearly didn't have my expert insight as to how the back 3 compliment each other, how the system is bringing the best out of players etc. As a blades mad pleb, you wouldn't have the expert eye to identify that.

;)

I just fort he looked big, innit?

Does anyone know the terms of the loan agreement?
Could someone buy him (and sign him) in January or does the season loan agreement prevent that?
I'm sure Wilder would sign him if he could, suppose it depends on player/available transfer funds/wages etc.
Does any one know if he's out of contract next summer?

Just waiting now for the EEL/Chuck Norris quotes.......

EEL doesn't dial the wrong number, you pick up the wrong phone......

coaxingstar71, as far as I'm aware, EEL's contract expires in the summer. Whether Wolves have a years's extension to this I'm unsure, but it really will be a sign of this club's intent if they manage to sign him. Now that EEL's a shoe-in on the team sheet, it would be beyond negligence if the club failed to sign him, to paraphrase.....gerrimmin UTB

Now you know it's not as simple as "get him signed".

What if our current salary cap is £6000 a week
And EEL's agent wants £12,000 a week?

What would you do?
Take a massive gamble on promotion this year knowing that if we fail to get promoted then we will be forced to sell our best players just to break even.

Also there's the age old factor of loan players playing great for us (like Brayford) then as soon as they win good contracts (can add Che Adams too) their form goes downhill and they dont seem so bothered.

I reckon United can't negotiate anything until they know what division we're next season.
If we get promoted I reckon we'll sign him.

We just need to have a weekly raffle in a Glyn Hodges style transfer.

Presumably you're unaware of (I think) Pinchy's lovely corruption of the English language, so it's meant more as a hope than a realistic demand. Of course most of the factors you state (don't think the loan player scenario is an absolute) are relevant. I'm sure that Wilder will be bending the chairman's ear to try and make this possible. If it's not possible then we move on.

Agree.

You'd like to think Ethan himself would have a big say and have control of his future.
Let's assume he's on £4K a week at Wolves.
If we offer £6K, first team football and job satisfaction you'd think he'd sign with the chance to become a legend and hero at a big club.

BUT you can imagine his agent saying.
No Ethan let's leave it until Summer and wait for the offers to roll in.
I reckon I can get you at least £10K a week. It's a short career, so think of the money.

It could end up being another Jordan Slew situation.
A club like Swansea might offer him £10K to play in their reserves
And then we never see or hear of him again.

If fact hIs agent might argue he's a £2 million rated defender going on a fee transfer.

So for a 3 year contract.
£2 million divide by 156 weeks = £12,820/ week + £5,000 a week wages.

So the agent might try an angle that he should be paid wages of £17K a week.
These days with some players the bottom line is money.

I think as fans we put too much on the "chance to be a club legend at a big club" type stuff when most players really don't care.

99% will just go wherever pays most.

Or if you're John Bradford, you go wherever Uncle Nige is managing.
