Thank you once again for putting these together. Still think a short best of taken from above with music spliced in would be good! Keep em going I say if you could!

Thanks for uploading, That Tony Agana goal at Huddersfield in the FA Cup in the 100 years 100 goals video, from around 34 minutes, is still one of the best Blades goals I ever saw in the flesh.

If one of the over paid Prem Stars scored it today it would be on Constant repeat on Sky. A world class goal.

In the 1989-90 video I am still trying to work out how Don Goodman's header (35:37) failed to enter the net. He headed the ball out over Simon Tracey near the edge of the box, the ball bounced about a yard from the goal line but somehow bounced over the bar!

A strange celebration by the ball boy for Wilf Rostron's equaliser against L**ds at home. Put his hand up when the ball got into the net but quickly put his hand down before shaking his head!

Remember being really excited when we signed Richard Cadette, thinking we had a replacement for Keith Edwards at last. On the eve of the season, The Stir ran a back page splash "Blades to face tough season" or something. We had a bit of a purple patch in the autumn, but it all went pear-shaped with the 5-0 defeat at home to Oldham seeing the end of Billy McEwan's reign. Dave Bassett came in on the back of having failed at Watford and tried to do too much too quickly; with some more awful thrashings such as 5-0 at L**ds and 6-0 at Boro. Clearly the club couldn't keep faith with Bassett. Or could they...?

The two draws against Villa and the win at Maine Road were probably the highlights of a very poor season.

What about the home game v Birmingham? Roger Hansbury was on loan from Birmingham to us, Peter Withe on loan from us to Birmingham, scored two goals for them and celebrated in front of the Kop in his one and only decent performance at Bramall Lane. Then a couple of weeks later he was back playing for SUFC as if nothing had happened.

Upon seeing Withe celebrate his first goal like it was the FA Cup final, my dad walked out of the ground that day and sat in the car waiting for us to come out after the game. He never watched Withe in a Blades shirt again.

Reg Brealey was fuming towards Billy McEwan after that Birmingham match

The last in the series. Pretty depressing so have the videos below...

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the 1990 promotion video. I own 100 years 100 goals, and I have the "United" series but never bought Harry's Game, so it was a terrific trip down memory lane. I saw all the home games that year (plus the Barnsley away game) but I haven't seen many of the goals since then, TV coverage being scant at the time.

Some observations/memories:

1. It's remarkable how many times John Gannon picks up a loose ball when a corner is cleared and does something useful with it. Despite this he was mercilessly barracked early in the season, culminating in ironic cheers when he was injured at home to Swindon. Bassett complained about it in the press and it stopped. Nice goal from Gannon v Bradford.

2. I had never seen Wilf Rostron's goal against Wolves - what a strike - and I had forgotten how good his goal was against Leeds.

3. I remember when the ball broke to Deano late in the Port Vale game, when we had slipped to third. I don't think I've ever been had a more nervous moment at a game. Actually, now I think of it, Extra time at Ipswich in 1997 was worse.

4. I remembered the Don Goodman header (mentioned by Silent above) from when it happened. Still can't believe it didn't go in. He never had any luck at the Lane.

5. Some things are burned in your brain forever, and it's gratifying to see they are still as you remember them: the goals at Barnsley, the Brighton game, Whitehurst's header vs Wolves, Deano's goal v Boro, Agana outpacing Earl Barrett against Oldham, Booker's goals against West Brom, Bradshaw's bit of skill at home to Stoke, Agana poking home against Leeds, Duffield's Portsmouth penalties, cruising against Bournemouth...good times

6. Some opposition goals are also burned in my brain - Steve Agnew's goal at the Lane, Simon Garner's winning header for Blackburn, Gabbiadini running riot for Sunderland, and, sadly, Superpig Sterland's free kick for Leeds. I remember his dance around the corner flag - he was right in front of me. Also remember Julian Dicks' penalty smacking against the bar, the first incident in one of the oddest matches I've ever seen.

7. Simon Tracey would be constantly suspended now if he brought so many people down.

8. I was wrong about Whitehurst's goal against Watford - it was a good shot but there was no mazy run, just a stumble. Tony Coton kept the score in single figures that night - one save he made from Deano, not on the tape, was incredible - and I felt sorry for him when Deano's shot hit a divot and bounced over him.

9. That pitch was awful.

10. Colin Hill played 40 odd games and I don't think is mentioned once by the commentator!

And a few thoughts on the horror of the 1987-8 video (which I have only skimmed as I have no desire to see Piggy Pearson scoring a hattrick):

1. The commentator explains that the second Swindon goal came from an indirect free kick given for Leaning holding onto the ball too long. There was a new directive at the start of that season for enforcement of this rule, but of course it was enforced inconsistently and caused controversy and was quietly dropped.

2. Somewhere on youtube is highlights of the first leg of the Bristol City playoff with Alan Walsh's winner and United going close a couple of times. Paul Williams' dreadful miss from the second leg is also on a club video somewhere.

3. Showing the cinema on Angel Street reminds me of something that happened that season. Went with my family to see "Empire of the Sun" there when United were away at Middlesbrough, 2 weeks after losing 5-0 at Leeds. It was three nil when we went in. When we came out my Dad said "I wonder how many Boro got?" Walking through the Hole in the Road we found out - the green un seller's board read "Blades hit for six". Ouch. Brian Smith was in midfield. Not Dave Bassett's finest hour tactically.

I'll have to keep an eye out for those. If anyone can help...

Think I've found it...

Will edit later.

My cousin was bad for that. Anytime Gannon did owt he'd shout "Gerrof Gannon". Eventually my dad told him off for it.

Gannon was a decent player, I never understood the abuse. His assists to Sirs Dane and Bobby in the 2 derby wins were sublime.

Great goal by Morris in the Play Off second leg. Still, what a crappy season.

The new footage on the video above is our away win at Hull in February 1988 (9:30 onwards). Watching that it is hard to see the pre-Sky glory days people talk about.

I think the glory days were probably a few decades before, like those British Pathe newsreels. The 80's was rife with hooligansim and all sorts of unrest. Sky probably did initially help in cleaning up the games image, but then it all matastisized into something less desirable in my view.
