Basham

Don't know if it was a red, but there were other challenges of the same nature that went unpunished.

He is playing with more aggression, and long may that continue. He's been good recently, he's an important player.

I think we'll be OK without him against Bristol Rovers and Fleetwood though.

The silver lining is that Fleck will have a run of games - there's definitely a place for him (and Basham) in our strongest 11.

As I've said elsewhere, it wasn't a straight red, but our penalty could have been denied as well. Also, I hope the team don't go into the Bristol and Fleetwood games with the same air of certainty as some of our fans. They're both breathing down our necks and could undo all our recent good work.

I might be on my own here but I thought it was a red card. The freeze frame above and watching it on the highlights; Basham is high and is over the ball. Surprised not many see it that way. An appeal would be a waste of time and the fact we wont bother I sense tells a story.

Someone said he went over the top of him and that is the problem.

10 years ago it would not have been a booking but now you cannot make tackles like that or if you do, you have to make sure your foot is grounded. The ball was on the floor not even bouncing so the moment Bash puts foot up like that he is facing a big risk. its ok saying there player went in hard too but he did not tackle with his foot up and over the ball.

Even if it was not a red (which sadly most refs would say was; whatever criticism of Deadman is given for his performance) it was a definite yellow and he had already been booked. His first touch was awful and then he was out of control in his challenge. Not first time he has done this (Port Vale was it a few years ago).

Of course I was not there and it sounds as if there were quite a few others that could have warranted a similar punishment.

Bash being out for three matches gives Wallace an opportunity to cement his place for the rest of the season.
If only that were true

Comjpletely agree. Two footed, over the top, no control, nowhere near the ball. It wasn't nasty like flying in two footed but it was a red. Awful control.

I think that was the problem if I'm honest. You can't go in two footed in any tackle and hope to escape punishment. We can look at it multiple times to get a judgment but in the second or so a ref sees it, it's a red every time.

I was there and by letter of the law (whether intentional or not) I felt it was a red and checked it again seeing the highlights and I still havent changed my mind

The guys reaction does not help but whether he is injured or not is irrelevant. You dont give the referee the opportunity to send him off. Basham was on a yellow. What was he thinking? Should be maximum fine we can give as could have cost us the game and very nearly did.

At slowed down/freeze frame it is a red. So imagine how it must have looked in full speed?

The ref may have been awful but he got this one right I feel. I watched it several times back and cannot really complain at the red

ref was stood right next to it as well

I would. It might prevent you from publishing Bladey Bollocks in future. Watch Tony Currie and Co if you want to see what "is us". Proper football.

Currie once said that he considered the most important member of that side was Trevor Hockey.

You need an enforcer.

It wasn;t a commited tackle. It was a stupid over the ball lunge that nearly cost us the game. I am all for tackling and fight but on a yellow card it was a ridiculous tackle.

Getting it wrong doesn't mean it wasn't a committed tackle, and it was hardly a shocker anyway. More often than not he won't get it wrong, and even when he does it won't usually result in a red. A maximum fine would discourage such commitment, which is a big part of his game, and it wouldn't be the best way to deal with it. There should be standard fine procedures in place for when a player's not available due to suspension, but it shouldn't go beyond that on this occasion.

Bashams straight red and subsequent ban is something we should all be celebrating . He's useless and I , amongst a great many others , think it's a disgrace that he's allowed to pull on a Blades shirt .

Fine him , ban him and have him cleaning the young uns boots for the rest of the season . We all know he's shit .

I would bet that most supporters know that he could be better but he isn't shit. So unless you can suggest someone else in our squad who puts himself about like Basham does then I can't see any logic in what you are saying.
I must have missed us signing that other energetic tackler who is waiting in the wings to fill Basham's shoes.

There's no such thing as a tackle now days it's a sport for soft tarts, Bashams tackle was knob all ,all we have now is pillock referees .and fans who have never had a crunching tackle .pathetic

I was sat in scunny family stand and the majority of scunny fans around me was saying it wasn't a sending off and neitha did I,the ones that did I just told them

Whoosherer

Contender for man of the match last week, and he scores our opener this week.

If Basham's our shittiest player, there must be a whole new level of super-shite to describe some of the others in the squad.

Even whooshererer

I don't rate Basham that much at all, he consistantly slows down our momentum and is weak and easily bullied for someone of his size

But we're only allowed to slag Scougall and Sharp off so maybe I shouldn't have said that.

When Foxy tweets in the heat of the moment that Basham "jumped in", then you know it's red and will stay a red.

Agreed when I watch it again, it was a reckless tackle. One foot off the floor and right in front of the ref.
