Must be my age...I had no clue WTF pengting was/is, or that there was a short name for Meadowhall.

these Wags have a certain standard to keep up tha knows. No doubt she will be rather trim and look quite tidy in the contents of those bags! But MAC makeup on top and he's probably chucked a days wages at her!

The Star saw fit to write an article about that?!

What is the world coming to?

They needed something to fill the paper, there were no righteously indignant mums whose kids had been sent home from school ;)

Just been listening to Chris Wilder's pre-Wimbledon interview, & he's very praising of Coutts's performances since he came back into the side.

But he's not getting carried away at all. Says it's important to look back on. say, 12 performances rather than just the 2 or 3 there's been so far.

Good to hear - keeping that pressure up on him to keep on performing.

To the tune of Yellow Submarine...

From Meadowhall to Bramall Lane
He buys his underwear before the game
His name is Paul, his name is Coutts
He checks his knicker-line before he shoots

Couttsy's wearing ladies underwear
Ladies underwear, ladies underwear

Couttsy's wearing ladies underwear
Ladies underwear, ladies underwear

I know someone who's met him, apparently he's a good lad.

I just hope it continues to click for him under Wilder as he's a quality player when he's at it 100%.

Looked back over the Dons game on Bladesplayer last night.

The interplay between the midfield I thought was some of the best we have seen this season, and seems to be getting better all the time.
Coutts and Duffy in particular were working quite well together, and I was finally seeing some fast, accurate and well paced passes into United players. We were actually knocking the ball about like a proper football team at times.

Coutts was constantly showing for the ball,as was Duffy. Bash, was well Bash. Ran around a lot and seemed to be everywhere.
My only concerns are that he tends to be running a lot but not actually close enough to make a tackle and his passing.
Second half with Fleck we saw quite a lot of very good chances, particularly early on.

But on the whole quite pleasing, and even though they were pretty poor and IMHO good bets for relegation we did see some signs of slicker football, and creating good clear chances.
Coutts looks fitter than at any time, he's getting 90 mins and being available for a run of games. Duffy is settling in. We just need Fleck to get his fitness right and I think we might see that as our first choice midfields, injury permitting.

After some early worries.....well done Wilder. Keep it up.

Hope someone has the technical knowledge to help with this!
Sometime in first half (about 25 mins in?), Billy was fairly near to right wing touchline and almost under a dropping ball, when he somehow brought it under control, took ball in his stride and legged it down the line, leaving adjacent defender in his wake.
I'd like to see it again as I couldnt quite believe it happened at the time.
And if it didn't, it was the ale's fault!

I find it weird how popular opinion dictates who and who is not a good player.

Yesterday, Done, Scougall and Sharp were clearly the best performers but they are still deemed to be shit.

Coutts on the other hand has had some weird revival amongst many Unitedites and I wonder why. Yes he was ok against Southend when everyone else was terrible but he hardly shone on Saturday.

Done is one who clearly does not get credit, due to being deployed in the wrong position for so long

I completely agree. It's been obvious for so long that he was never going to do anything at left wing-back/left wing. I was worried he'd end up the transfer list and we'd never get to see his full potential. Very glad that Wilder seems to have fixed that.

I've just watched the Wimbledon game back and it's amazing how often you hear Wilder shouting 'Couttsy'. He must need telling more than anyone else. Wilder will know that he's currently key for us having signed no other midfielder, and he'll be trying to stay on top of him to keep his standards up.

Thought he played OK, but there wasn't a great deal of football played and he barely got forward at all. He probably contributed more than anyone to the few sustained spells of possession we had and was always calm on the ball.

Mentioned the same thing on a different thread..They seemed to be instructing all the players throughout the game to be fair,as was the Dons Manager...They kept shouting stuff like "2nd ball Couttsy" ...I think because most of our play comes through him that his name got mentioned the most...agree about not a great deal of Football...not sure if it was that type of game,it was just a battle and a few to many long balls, but we did put together some good moves..the pressing was relentless, and urged on from the sidelines...Done must gave ran himself into the ground.

I suspect CW has realised, after initial doubts, just how good Couttsy can be. He's a vital player at the moment; Tufty knows it and wants to keep him at the tip of his game. Quite right too. I think PC will get better and better knowing he feels wanted and his match fitness improves (as, credit to him, it has significantly already). I believe he'll start to run the show good and proper and may well end up POTY,

Tomorrow, the winning lottery numbers and a tip for the National...

It seems clear now that the players were as frustrated as the fans last season. In recent history we've had a long list of players deemed "dross" who I firmly believe were just reacting (badly, admittedly) to a poor situation. The players that come through that spell stronger deserve plenty of credit, in my opinion. However, one that I'd particularly praise is Chris Basham. He isn't a gifted footballer and his limitations are obvious, but his attitude under all his managers appears impeccable.

Or maybe Coutts has realised he can't get away with being a lazy bottle less bastard under CW like he was most of the time last year? About fucking time I say and well done CW for not accepting that attitude, unlike previous incumbents, CW has some nous.

I think CW is far more similar to Clough in his man management style than Adkins was. It probably shouldn't be surprising that some of Clough's signings have responded well to Wilder.

And also, that the manager might have a bit of a clue....whereas the last one clearly didn't. The ever present players who he signed despite very obvious failings and failures highlight that.
Might not be particularly professional, but no wonder some players just give up when there's a fuck wit in charge.

Absolutely agree.

Douglas McGregor developed a theory involving 2 management styles.

Theory X (Authoritarian management style) works on the assumption that people do not like work and must be forced to do it under threat of punishment to get the best out of them.

Theory Y (participative management style) works on the assumption that people take pride in their work, are self-disciplined and can be trusted to get on with it and that the more scope and freedom you give them to express themselves, the more of their potential you are unleashing thus improving their output.

I’d say both Clough and Wilder fall more into Theory X management whereas Adkins was very much Theory Y. Problem is, Adkins didn’t have players that responded to his methods (Billy apart). I still think he would have had us up there competing if he could get his own players in to respond to his methods but that’s been and gone and we now seem to be making some steps forward with Wilder after an abysmal start. Let’s hope he can keep it going and get us up there challenging. As it stands, we have 10 points from 7 games. After the same number last season we had 12 points so I think it’s premature for people to get carried away about how Wilder is getting the best out of players where Adkins didn’t (especially as Wilder has been able to sign a new team). But the pattern of performance and result seems to be moving in the right direction and long may it continue.

Also, Wilder got exactly the same number of points from his first 7 games last season before pissing the league with Northampton so hopefully a good omen.

Ten likes

I'm really pleased for us that it seems to be working out now, but however good it gets, history won't be re written by a handful of posters waiting to be proved right.

He's been utterly gash under 2 managers. He's playing well now. Credit to both Wilder and Coutts. But he cannot be absolved of blame for his lack of input up to this season, however much Adkins (in some people's eyes) becomes resposible for world hunger and the like.

You are of course referring to the minority of Clough's signings that haven't been binned to the back of beyond.

My worry is he was buying the lingerie for his mistress and not his Mrs! Then his Mrs finds out he's playing away, she dumps him, Coutts is heartbroken, turns to the bottle - thus returns to playing shit for the blades.

All this because some young'n thought he was Pengting INNIT

Could be worse. Could have been caught slipping it up 2 polish rent boys. Every cloud and all that...
