Found a few retro pics from '83 which show Southend v Sheffield United - have put them up on my book (Roots To The 92) facebook page in case interested https://www.facebook.com/RootsToThe92/

Would be interested if anyone has memories of the day back then and/or can identify the Sheff Utd players in the pics

Must have been around that time that I went on a coach from the Carousel in Chap. Sat in traffic after the game on the edge of a council being goaded by a car full of locals. Suddenly they all rushed back to their car and scrambled inside before driving off pretty sharpish as group of Blades, the one at the front waving a machete, ran across the grass verge towards them.

I remember being sat on a coach watching the same thing after that game, piss funny. The pig Curran scored what would have been an equaliser at 2-2, right in front of the Blades fans then threw himself into the crowd, only for it to be disallowed. I think i'm right in saying we'd managed to string a few wins together prior to that game and we're on the edge of the promotion race. That defeat put an end to any hopes of going up that year.

Went to that game on the special train and there was less then 100 on it Carnt remember anything bout the game itself I think the home end didn't have a roof on it and there was a market near the main stand

Don't times change - what would you give for that side now?

I take it that wasn't a Friday night game ,I remember them playing on Friday nights for some reason. We went once and went round to the players bar after the game when a guy stopped us going in ,asking who are you. We said weve just fucking played mate and he let us in :)

Fridays were coz they had a market in the car park on a Satdi!

Peasants ,who else did it ,am I right with Tranmere ,Newport or Bristol Rvrs ?
Yes, Tranmere played on Fridays, Torquay played on Saturday evenings, Port Vale played their "midweek matches" on Mondays. Chesterfield used to kick off at 3.15pm on Saturdays

~5 ought to be John McPhail, but maybe he had been already incarcerated for rail card fraud and it was instead the forerunner human beanpole that became Gary West

If it's the game I'm thinking of , went with the coach from sheaf valley baths , no nor hermans crew
Somebody else's set , I think that " SC" was on our coach that day ,
A mate of ours believing that there was 2 Southend fans in with us Twatted one of them , only to be told by the lads mate he was a cockney blade , almost sure the lads mate was Paul heaton , could be wrong mind it was a long time ago .
