He's the David Icke of the board. Sel Baki's CV was cringeworthy enough - didn't think he'd have the front to resurface up the u-bend since then.

Who?

Are you on the cider and tramadol again, feller?

The three most responsible tonight aren't ex Bladesmadders, I guess people like me have been a bad influence.

yes, fair comment on this thread.

6th year in L1 I suppose - just got to hope Knill is a decent coach and gets these numpties playing the right way.

Why do you sign your name off at the end of each post?

Rodz

Because it pisses you off. It gives you something to concentrate on (because that is a real problem, innit?)

It's not allowed even then. Also I am of the school of thought that a nil nil at home to Gillingham just weeks before the last season ended, is a splendid result.
Such endeavour, standing ovation from South stand. That's the spirit. The players drew encouragement from that and performed as they did v Scunthorpe etc.

Sitwell, you've known me for years. Way back to SUISA, in fact IIRC. I have always lived in the south of England, 221.4 miles away from my door to the Cherry Street Car Park by the AA Routeplanner, in fact. By your measure, anyone who criticises Sheffield United and lives away, or doesn't even go to a football match, is wrong. But we aren't wrong, you see. We have four points from fifteen, have failed to impress in the pre-season, lost cup games, and have sold our last vestiges of real talent and ability, seemingly to fund another Clough-like player spree, most of whom come December you yourself will be lambasting (simply because they are playing way above their level of ability in L1). And we are twentieth in the table, with a minus goal difference. You tell me there is nothing to criticise? You tell me what difference my £300-400 ST will make on things when players like Adams are chipped off and the proceeds made to stretch across twelve misplaced replacements.

I get enjoyment out of United when they are successful, but now, after seven seasons in the third division will take no excuse why we are still there, especially when the likes of Burton go up with our former manager. Cross off all the non common items connected with the club over that period, start to finish. What are you left with?

I don't have to go to every game to make my mind up sitwell. It seems you sit in the stands every Saturday and think its just summat to do to get out of the wife's way, or you don't understand football. I doubt either. I think you are as pissed off as we are, but can't articulate that anger and disappointment in the right direction, and its coming my way instead.

Is it 7 seasons ?

Is it 7 seasons ?

Tell me. In fact, bet me.

We won't go up this season. Not a fucking cat in hell's chance.

Had we recruited a pair of good CBs, a brace of midfield creative ball players and possibly a striker who can play 'with' Sharp rather than 'alongside' then I'd say six. That would possibly set the club back £5-6m. If promoted, £10m more just to stay there. McCabe hasn't the intent to fulfil that.

You know that.

Despite the cider and tramadol I'll always have the pleasure of reading the comprehensive slap down on the Sel Baki CV thread. Genuinely a great moment. Can you come back from that with any credibility? Really? Juries out

It's not "Don't slag the club off" It's don't slag them off endlessly, fifty times a day, day in day out, repeating the same old stuff. You might be obsessed with it but Bert would guess that most readers of this board are sick to death of reading it.

Nope. No idea. Was it when you suggested I speak to the former hooligan personally about his appointment?

Mind you. You and Mongo.

Yay. The third-party sage.

Are they more sick of pommpey banging on about McCabe being the spinning hub of the club's decline, or the fact that after all this time, through more thin than thick, season after season of disappointment and anguish ... pommpey might just be right? pommpey means, pommpey has heard it all, Bert. If it wasn't for McCabe, we'd be finished, CGI, Think Liverpool and 'you don't go to any games, so how do you know?'

Yet look ...

L1.jpg

That's not good is it Bert? Apart from a brief period under Wier, it's not been this bad since the eighties.

Bert will know. Who has been in and around the club for all this time? No one here seems to know the answer ...

I'm seeing some ignored content by ignored poster coming up on this thread.

Can Bert advise me if I'm missing anything good?

pommpey mentioned McCabe, the Desso pitch, the new signings and the club's finances.

He did it quite a lot of times actually. He's now taken to printing the league table every ten minutes.

Well, pommpey reckons Bert (and others) choose to conveniently 'forget' the proven measurable which supports the notion that the club is in a worsening spiral. Pommpey reckons Bert (and others) are a bit cross at being repeatedly told their piss weak excuses and seemingly boundless optimism sustains the real cause, so has to effectively hold the hands of those concerned so they see the light. Pommpey fears that if Bert (and others) don't get the message soon, Sheffield United might fail further and the current manager get the sack, players sold, poorer players bought and the pattern repeated. Just like pommpey repeats, in fact.

Odd, innit?

This summer has been all about cost-cutting and making some money back for Kev

I don't think McCabe is malicious, he's a benign benefactor but he's made some awful decisions. I think he wants the best for United but doesn't know how to go about it, meanwhile he sees the selling of players as essential to subsidise his income.

The only thing that will change that is for us to get promotion. If he sniffs a chance of the Prem then I think him and the Prince will take a more ambitious approach.

Agree mostly with squad assessment but not the comments on Clarke. I've been impressed with his contribution tbh.

I still think we're good enough to push for top 2 - despite the poor start.

I don't think he's lining his pockets or subsidising his income either. I don't think he is crooked or bent. United is a going concern, which can just get by on it's own by developing and selling, and less by him bunging cash at it. Fair do's. But fuck anyone who calls him 100% Blade. His fuck ups in the past have cost us.

I think it's harsh to judge the Sharp & Clarke partnership too early. All strikers need supply, and our midfield has been awful prior to the Oxford game. With Fleck returning, Lavery signing and both Coutts and Scougall showing some promise, I'm hopeful our midfield will continue to improve, and give our forwards a chance to show what they can really do.

"The Squad"

Imagine my surprise upon opening this thread to find that Robbiez isn't a 13 year old and this isn't a load of Instagram photos of him and his mates having 'bare laughs' from Halfway tramstop to Drake house MaccyDs. All with the hashstag #squadgoals

is there no signing on fees and agents lump sums in your calcs

We're all guestimating figures aren't we mate as the deals are all "undisclosed", however what is beyond dispute is that we've brought in a lot of revenue, slashed the wages bill, but not spent very much.

What this relates to is the Board using the funds to reduce their input into the Club, rather than trying to help Tufty to build a squad capable of competing realistically at this level and getting us out of this self-imposed exile in L1.

Its a transfer window to keep the Board happy, NOT to progress the Club, that's my concern ...... :(

UTB & FTP

Nonsense on only spending £400k. We've paid fees for 5 players, including around £150k on Lavery alone. We've also spent 6-figure sums paying off both Hammond and Woolford. Plus whatever in signing fees, agent fees etc.

The pay-offs of Hammond & Woolford were (presumably) allowed for in Tufty's original budget ( prior to the sale of Adams & DCL ) because big Kev referred to "needing to pay off two or three to get them off the books" back in the summer.

Its a transfer window for the board, not for the fans ....... :(
