Giving this first eleven:

Moore
Freeman Wilson Wright Lafferty
Basham Coutts
Scougall Sharp Duffy
Lavery

Not many six footers there, and against some teams Wilder will possibly include a bigger player (EEL, Hussey, Clarke), especially to cope at set pieces.

Long term we'll have real competition at centre half, while the attacking trio behind the main striker will be rotated, maybe to the extent it'll be difficult to say who's first choice.

Given Lavery's ability as a wide forward I think your players are right but the formation may not be. I can also see Fleck coming in for Basham.

Moore
Freeman Wilson Wright Lafferty
Basham Coutts
Lavery Scougall Duffy
Sharp

I think you've hit the nail on the head regarding Kev laughing his arse off .....

The only winners in our transfer dealings are the Board. We've brought in £3.5 million and spent about £400,000, whilst slashing the wages bill at the Club.

At least we're now clear on this season's priorities which appear to be not to be relegated. With the squad now at Tufty's disposal, I would guess at a mid-table finish, perhaps 7th or 8th if tufty can find some goals from somewhere in the squad.

It's absolutely incredible that we didn't see a couple of decent CM's acquired, particularly since Tufty wanted this area addressed and a pacey winger would have been a nice to have come in.

Oh well ....... expectations suitably re-set and I'm going to predict that our season, once again is effectively over.

Roll on the summer ........ :(:(:(

UTB & FTP
is there no signing on fees and agents lump sums in your calcs

I think your formation is right. I have a feeling that Lavery will be competing with Done for the main striker role, now that we've seen pace and mobility can help us stretch teams. I think Wright will keep his place for now, and would be surprised if Wilson was benched immediately. When the new players are considered ready and match fit (and assuming the current first choices do well in the next couple of games) I think this could be Wilder's short term preference for each position:

GK - Moore, Long, Ramsdale

RB - Freeman, Ebanks-Landell
LB - Lafferty, Hussey
RCB - Wilson, Ebanks-Landell
LCB - Wright, O'Connell

CM - Coutts, Basham, Fleck, Whiteman, Reed
RLAM - Duffy, Lavery, Scougall, Chapman, Done, Reed
ACM - Sharp, Duffy, Scougall, Brooks

CF - Lavery, Done, Sharp, Clarke

Lavery will probably be out wide on the left done or Clarke will be up front Scougall or Duffy will be out wide on the right ebanks-landell will probably be RB

Nonsense on only spending £400k. We've paid fees for 5 players, including around £150k on Lavery alone. We've also spent 6-figure sums paying off both Hammond and Woolford. Plus whatever in signing fees, agent fees etc.

It is if you own a prime couple of acres just off Sheffield City Centre. And the academy, and other chattels.

If they're all loss making though, how does it work o wise one?

Again, I don't necessarily think he is 'making money' in the sense that some would have he is 'profiting'.

I think his tactic is making the club pay for itself and live off its means. I think we can all see that. He has finished investing and is enforcing that, which is why we have had a fast turn over of disillusioned managers. The bit that sticks is his belief the all of us buy his shit the he is a Blade and he has promotion in his list of ambitions. Clearly by selling good players and buying shit ones, that is evidently not the case and besides, we will want him to stump up for better players if we do go up and wish to remain in the Championship.

Getting promoted is, for McCabe, the worst outcome for the team.

Getting promoted, is what we, as supporters want. Some believe his shit. Others don't.

pommpey

Oddly it's a "tactic" he told us about. It doesn't need any great thinking when it's already been said.

Yes of course getting promoted is the worst outcome. He was clearly happy for example last season, throwing another £4m down the drain.

All those bigger crowds and much higher FL money won't encourage him at all.

  • Clubs are permitted to sign a goalkeeper on a seven-day ‘emergency loan’ basis if they do not have a senior goalkeeper that has made five first-team apps.
Before anyone says the loan window is closed....

Technical term here but it doesn't ever close it SLAMS SHUT!

If they're all loss making though, how does it work o wise one?

Not exactly loss making, is it, oracle of snide?

If he owns it, and United lodge on it as a sporting club, once they shrivel and die, he'll still own it to sell or develop, won't he?

Or have you more clever-clever stuff for me?

Always worth reminding folk that this is the same Sean Thornton that thinks it doesn't matter which owner owns the ground. :)

Yes. You're right. A quarter of that was on a pitch we neither needed or justified. OOPS! There you go. I said it. Over a million pounds in a statement. We also sold talent and bought shit. Like the previous season, only slightly different Nigels.

All those bigger crowds and much higher FL money won't encourage him at all.

Yeah, true. Just more ST/FL money to straighten out club debt, buy chattels we don't need and not strengthen the team. I am sure he learned that painful lesson when we went up over ten years ago.

Yep all loss making. Check it out rather than making silly comments. The company that gets the rents loses money because of the interest it has to pay on the borrowings. It's possible to own something that costs you money.

It's noticeable you get like this when the facts get put your way.

He's also got all the answers, but strangely has none. Anything you say is bounced back without reference to the continued decline in the club, which seems to be inconsequential.

So 'the company which gets the rents' (not McCabe) makes the loss?

But McCabe owns the freehold on the ground, yeah?

So, gimme a figure, pound for pound (cos you know all the facts)

1. How much did he buy it all for?
2. How much is its current market value?

pommpey

Well you've worked out the likely scenario for the second point. Reduce the debt. Not hard was it? No point in buying chattels or spending at all really. Which is why going up might save him a few quid, staving off relegation would be a bonus.

Glad it's sunk in.

The point was not wanting to get promoted, not the decline of the club. it was your point, not mine. You posted utter bollocks and are now changing the goalposts because it's dawned on you. Clearly you're in a mood so I'll leave it with you before the bad language starts.

You reckon?

So, given my limited knowledge and all that, it might actually pay dividends to invest in talent, huh? Rather than sell it and use the cash to say, fund a new pitch (allah-akhbar/crosses self with holy water for sinning and mentioning it) Because lets face it, its banked us fuck all, hasn't it? Be honest now, yeah? Would two centre back have been better? We have already ascertained buying them wouldn't have landed McCabe in jail and all that, so don't go all FFP and SCMP on me now.

pommpey

Is barney your new bitch ?

Blimey. A bit desperate wasn't it sitters? First time you forgot to include the quote, so hard was your dick.

I could say the same about you and Sean, but its a bit cheap, innit? Besides, we are talking about United.

Isn't the decline of the club and the lack of ambition to be promoted kinda linked? Who is moving the goalposts now?

SU Ltd gets the rent. It loses money.

SU Ltd owns the ground.

Scarborough Group owns SU Ltd.

KM is the ultimate controlling party of Scarborough.

Okay so far?

Look in the accounts.

How would I know? You tell me.

That's all she wrote. They're the facts, and we know you can't handle the facts.

You really are pathetic.

Are you going to answer my question about how much McCabe bought the land for and what the delta is on current value, or is your mum calling you in for your tea, Sean?

How would I know? Unlike you I don't feel the need to make figures up for Internet validation.

No then. You don't know, or you wont tell us.

Great.

pommpey

I think the team we have this year is far better than the team we had last season, so on that basis I have some confidence that they can turn it around and fight for promotion.

It's in the accounts. Can't you read?

I don't need the accounts when I have you on the board trolling me. You have the big brains vision on everything. You're willing to snide everything I say, so I am asking you, o wise one.

I've not made figures up. I have suggested that the effects which McCabe owns around the club are fairly secure and he seems to be letting the club stagnate, because promotion will require deeper investment. Even more decline wont hurt him much because the club is being made to pay for itself and he owns the material assets. What's not to understand?

Obviously you have all the figures to dispute that. So lets see em.

pommpey

No then. You don't know, or you wont tell us.

Great.

If you can't find the info in the figures that's an issue for you. Do some research. You could even look back on here for it, how about that?

Why would I know the current value? Do You. No, you have no idea but unlike me can't bear to admit it.

"Look in the accounts"

In other words "I can't answer the question"

Great innit. On every board there's always some fucking know-it-all-clever-clogs who squats and shits on everyone's comments, and high-fives himself every time he presses 'Post Reply'. Then they get all teary when you ask the simple questions. 'Go look at the accounts'. No, fuck that. You explain why we are in shit street now haemorrhaging on-field ability and fast disappearing down the fucking u-bend, please. After that, explain what the big fucking plan is to rectify it please, being as you know so much.
