Outgoing? Paul Coutts

I'd keep him at present. He is, unfortunately better than our other options. Due to our tiny pitch, we actually need someone that can keep the ball like he can.

In a perfect world I wouldn't have a pitch the size of a match box, and he would be of little use here.

The game is littered with many a player who burst onto the scene promising to be a world beater before it all goes tits up. My wife was like that but in her case the tits have gone decidedly down since marriage and kids.

Pack your fucking bags and get out...

Thats a fair point.

It would be another of the large wage earners off the books.

As has been said earlier, doesn't score, create, tackle, run. Pretty useless in this league, may be better in the league above.

The only concern is that we'll be stripped to the bare bones in terms of personnel the way things are going.

Whats the obsession with everyone wanting 'high earners' off the books, is everyone happy to let McCabe run the wage bill and the team into the ground? The mordern evolved business that is football pays a level of money to players set by the Murdock's (bastard) of this world.
If we want a modern progressive club that can get out of this league, survive in the lofty heights of the Championship and build back to where we were 10 (TEN) years ago we need an agressive regime with money to match.
Otherwise, we can look forward to meeting Scholes, Giggs et al when we play Salford United.
Ambition, McCabes elf's more like

He's boring as sin to watch. Sometimes you need less entertaining players to break up the opposition's play and start our attacks, but he doesn't even do that.

He's just mediocre, boring and generally a bit shit.

Sounds the right player for Mick McCarthy and Ipswich Town .:D

The most technically gifted, by a mile. But it's about far more than that, and he's not just lacking in other areas, he doesn't have any game whatsoever.

His composure adds something they're lacking at the minute. But the absence of any tackling, pressing or attacking ability means we've got to look for better.

UTB

Considering we have wallowed in the third division for six years, any offer what so ever for any of em should be taken up.

Fuckin selfies Lydon

Okay. You've just described Little Louis there, apart from the bit about keeping the ball well.

Get rid or Bladey hypocrisy??
I mentioned my thoughts on Reed the other week.
Go on loan for a year where you will be a regular starter and come back with a defined game we can utilise:
- add goals to your game and become an offensive playmaker.
- become strong defensively and positionally and become a deep lying playmaker like Leon Britton has forged a career as.

If neither, then move on.

Let's hope a non-league team are looking for a tiny midfielder who contributes very little, then....

Great touch and vision but positions in the team are limited due to his size and stature. Needs a free role in a side but needs to add goals for that too. I thought he might make it as one the centre of a 3 in a wilder 4-2-3-2 but somehow ended up playing 442. I thought scougall and him would share that role

Most of them are playing so far beneath their earnings that it makes sense to get rid of them rather than the low earners. But unless or until we actually start to buy decent players then it's all just a nice theory. Ditching Brayford is a calculated risk. Ditching Sharp could genuinely mean relegation.

I predicted early doors that Coutts could well prove a few....including the manager wrong.

Early interviews...He was impressed with the attitudes of Coutts and Freeman.

Looks like Freeman is our right back for the foreseeable....Coutts to partner Fleck??

4232 ??? was Long that bad we were gonna play rush goalie?

Can I ask what he's done to prove the rest of us wrong?

Nothing yet, but a few more games in midfield, and maybe alongside Fleck and we might see a bit more ball retention, a bit more accuracy in the passing and a bit more threat as a result from wide areas.

There’s one other key difference though. Reed is still very young so could improve although with each passing year it looks less likely that he’ll make it. That said, I think he probably has a similar number of assists to Coutts in fewer games. I remember the odd fantastic through ball (McNulty v QPR, Murphy at home to Yeovil, Murphy at home to Swindon etc.) but he doesn’t offer enough control in midfield much of the time.

We'll see mate. My own view is that Coutts is at least twice the player and Little Louis is making his way slowly but surely to non-league. I'm not sure about the "still very young" - we still hear that about Calamity George. Poor older players are poor youngsters grown-up. There's nothing inevitable about young player's improving. In fact most go by the wayside. Witness our Yourh Cup final team...

I'd definitely keep Coutts. I'd love to see him in midfield with Fleck, see what they can do. Fleck is a willing runner but technically gifted too.

If Coutts stays and plays he presumably plays in the deeper two alongside Fleck and Basham on the bench. I'd rather a bit more graft as well for Coutts but maybe Wilder will get that if Coutts wants to stay. We all know there's a footballer in there, but this far we've not got the best out of him and he's not helped himself with his seemingly pedestrian approach. We just need pace anywhere and this team will look so much different. Lavery is a key signing if we can get him over the line. Someone capable at running at the opposition and skinning a few is something we've not had since we sold Murphy.

I largely agree. As I say, Reed hasn't kicked on as many of us would have hoped and there's every chance he might struggle to make it as a footballer. But whilst he's young, there's still a fair possibility he could improve. At Coutts' age and with his injury record, it's very unlikely he'll get any better. I agree that Coutts is the better player of the two. I don't think either are really good enough for what we want going forward but we can say that about most of the squad.

I'd definitely keep Coutts. I'd love to see him in midfield with Fleck, see what they can do. Fleck is a willing runner but technically gifted too.

Fleck also had a minder alongside him at Coventry, a French player who I believe has since moved to Bradford. So the balance was there for Fleck to do what he was best at while the minder did his job, think we've still to create that balance.
