What Carruthers offers is potential at the moment. We've seen how he can look brilliant late in games, but he needs to learn how to contribute from the start and against better players than last year. It's a big ask, but he's got the talent to do it. Whether he ever does or not, I wouldn't like to predict.....

Carruthers has been a real prospect in his time, just like Brooks. It's a long road to real success at this level and above, unless you are foreign and join right up there and have the hopes and best wishes of those who splashed out all that money for you.

Carruthers is still settling in but shows what some of more lauded players rarely show - an eye to set up a chance. By nature the forward ball with real potential goal dividend has more risk than the sideways easier ball. Coutts can't play in the final third, Fleck does well but has to repeat it at this level. Carruthers has to keep taking the risks despite criticism. Players who can create in the final third are like gold dust.
