This lad has been named by Wilder as a potential centre half to break through from the academy, anyone got any info on him?

Was making headlines in the Star when he was about 12 of captain of the team that travelled into Europe for some competition. Well rated CB.
I remember as my son was involved. They won a tournament at pigsborough. They travelled to the South Africa World Cup ...........

Good luck to him. Nothing like adding a bit of pressure on the lad !

Will be a 2nd year scholar next season.
Only down side is he is half Scottish..

watched him in the youngsters cup game v Huddersfield and for me he was a standout player.
a few of ours were that day and should not have lost.
Semple seemed an assured left sided CD.
Was disappointed how we played tho - it was slow through the thirds type - we never went at the Huddersfield lot - wouldn't have been to CW liking who was at the game - too bloody slow for me.

Considering it was the final - we didn't give it a real go - it was as though - if it happened it happened - as a team, any team for me, you have to go and MAKE it happen.

Anyway - having never seen or heard about him before that game (and obviously before CW's comment a few days ago) I came away thinking the lad had a chance to step up.

larkymasher will be able to add to this but personally I'd give him and Ramsdale the go ahead at Millwall in a much changed and freshened side. It's clear we're lacking in goal and defence and George Long continuing any further as a first team starter this season is a complete no go. A steady introduction away from the abusive twats behind the goal at the Lane might just do them and us the world of good. They're both incredibly highly rated. Certainly worth a try for me, doesn't get too much worse than that tonight.

..................Ramsdale
Brayford Semple O'Connell Hussey
................Coutts Fleck
...Duffy......Whiteman.......Freeman
...................McNulty

Two simple questions Barmey

1) Have you ever seen Semple and Ramsdale play?

2) Were you at The Lane tonight?

Dreadful suggestion!

Oh dear it's not this fruitcake again is it? Yes, been to the Lane tonight and no, not a watcher of the academy, hence tagging someone who is. And I know he's one that speaks highly of those two.

Oh Barney it was all going so well, i could have made a case for Semple and Ramsdale being involved in the match day 18 at Millwall and then you go and stick Freeman at left midfield. Any sense in your question has just gone pal.....

Exactly.....playing in front of a few friends and family one minute.....the next being expected to shout and organise a team of experienced pro's in front of thousands of angry, loud, inpatient united fans.

No....we don't need to be sticking kids in in those circumstances.

Call Clough all you like......he knew when to play kids, and knew how to bring them in.

With the atmosphere surrounding the club at the minute, I'd be extremely wary of playing any youngsters, in risk of irreparably damaging their confidence.
And any potential player with a reputation in tact will avoid risking coming to the Toxic Club we have suddenly become

I'm sure it does affect us.

I also think it's why we don't manage to get many quality young loanees in: potential parent clubs see the pressure from the fans, and how quick the atmosphere can turn toxic and realise that it could potentially hinder a players confidence and development.

So we are saying players would sooner play in front of a few hundred in reserve games than in front of 20k.....im sure that if you asked any pro footballer they would laugh at that.
Show willingness and put effort in and the fans will back you, its not rocket science.

If a player is out of form then don't play him, again this is simple enough to understand surely. The book stops with the manager in that instance.
Would you have picked Long, Brayford, Done, Basham if you was the gaffer?

I understand your point but Semple and Ramsdale have played every game since the age of 8 under pressure to progress through each age group of the academy.
If you have watched the pair of them over the past 2 years you will see that they have all the attributes to handle what ever comes their way. They would not let the club down or themselves. They are very strong individuals.
At some point they need exposing to angry, loud, inpatient fans. If they are good enough they are old enough. It just needs a strong manager to give them a chance.

Take your point sir, and I don't doubt that they will have ability.

But, and I'm afraid there is a but, if these experienced pro players are struggling with it, struggling with the pressure of playing for this club, then how do we expect kids to?
I know they are under a little pressure to make it through every year, but there's also very little riding on results. It's all about their performance and their targets. Sadly, most get nowhere near the first team and the reality check is that these are players who believe they can do it, but are just there to accommodate the one or two that have a chance.
Simple and Ramsdale may well have sailed through academy football unchallenged as the best we have at their age group. That doesn't mean they are good enough to compete as a pro, and being exposed to a hostile environment is simply never experienced.

My question with that team would be-
As O'Connell was poor last night and played a large part in giving goals away.......how come Wilson has been dropped for Semple?

And Freeman????? left wing
And Whiteman?

Ramsdale has played for England u18s and Semple pushing for Scotland u19s and captain of our U23s at 17 years old. That tells us that they are not just the best we have but are competing with high caliber older players from the rest of the country. These two can't do more than they are doing.

I dont know if they are going to make it as Pro's or not either but until these lads are exposed to the next level we will never know...... I am not saying chuck them in, i am saying they should be exposed to the next level off the bench or in EFL Trophy games or League Cup games. If they need more time then great but until they are exposed, none of us can make any comment whether they are good enough or not. There are others in Charlesworth, Gilmoor and Hallam who

SUFC Under 21s beat Charlton 21s last season in a playoff semi final at the Valley in May. 4 of the Charlton team have gone on to play for the first team this season. None of the sufc team have been given the same chance. Both clubs have struggled pre season, both have had terrible starts to the league and cups, both have huge expectations from their home support but we have this mentality that you need to be experienced to handle the pressure. I disagree with that. If you are good enough you will handle the pressure at 17, 21, 35 years old.

Please remember Grizzly, it has been CW blowing Ramsdale and Semple trumphet in preseason.

I am a massive fan of these two as i was Maguire, Walker, Reed, Lowton, Slew etc. Some have gone on to great things some have not. Thats football and thats opinions.

Regardless of being left or right footed, surely Jake Wright needs to be given a shot.

All Oxford fans spoke as if he was an imperious leader and a great character.

Sounds just what the team needs right now.

He may prefer left centre back as opposed to right but it's not like we'd be asking him to play in goal.
