Coutts has to start. At least in home games like that.

Because this team has zero cohesion and no fucking idea how to play football.
Agree and to add to the reaction - McNulty should be given a chance - not happening for our front 2 and he looked good when he came on against Crewe

Coutts is fucking awful! What does he do? Fuck all! Can't tackle, can't score, can't create! Looks neat and tidy on the ball, passing it short but no end product.

Bring back Hammond before Coutts!

We are that bad at the minute that even I'd back the inclusion of Coutts. My opinion of him is well known, but his strength is composure and link up. Right now we are devoid of that throughout.

Fuck knows what's going on but them at lineup / style / shape is clearly failing miserably.

Basham has to be dropped, so does Done, although in fairness he's not a winger and so does Long - obviously. Sadly we need new signings for that, and for them to hit the ground running too.

I hadn't seen this thread when I just made a similar point on the Hussey thread. Our other players' complete inability to play a well weighted, accurate pass to feet was magnified tenfold when Coutts came on. What a fucking sorry state of affairs.

With his ability what he can do is at least provide some sort of platform for the team to play from and build attacks.

And with Fleck. Not in place of him.

.....................Ramsdale
Brayford Semple O'Connell Hussey
..................Coutts Fleck
.......Duffy....Whiteman....Freeman
....................McNulty

I'd honestly just give that a try next match.

But its only august?
thank fook we got plenty of time to sort us sens art?
On the other hand,,?,,,when will emporer macabe retire?
I'm silencing my views til its kowd n pissin it down, meantime lets just be beer happy mid div3 table non-glory fans :)

Should have added to the above, I'd be looking at three in the middle whatever, and that would be imperative with Coutts there.

We surely couldn't dream of playing him in a two.

Coutts was trying to take responsibility on the ball today and was demanding it at all times.Something that Duffy Fleck and Basham haven't done in the first four games

You did get that I was agreeing with that?

We've got to drop the 4-4-2 as well as getting Coutts in.

The 2 man midfield have been overrun four games in a row now, and 3 sides have come to the Lane and had more space in midfield than I can ever remember.

I'd play Coutts alongside Basham (though preferably we'd sign someone else here) and push Fleck into the hole behind Clarke where he played in the early part of his career. We've got to look to get men in and around Clarke for his knock downs and hold up play, but we desperately need to compensate the lack of numbers in midfield.

And also, for fuck sake stop playing Done on the left wing. Poor lad's lost out there, and although Hussey looks shite, having 2 men coming at him all game is making him look even worse.

What a difference 3 games makes. The fact that some of the replacement players in this thread are being given a shout as potential saviours... it honestly is feeling like a battle for survival. Jesus.

Coutts and Freeman are the answers? Really?

Coutts certainly isn't a long term answer, but tonight he probably passed the ball more in 45 minutes than we have all season. There were even some good forward passes in there, no idea where that performance has been for the last 2 years mind.

Freeman, i'm not sure he's any better or worse than the current Brayford, but I think JB needs shaking up somehow and dropping him may be the only way to do it.

It's easy to overreact in these situations and i'm probably as guilty as anyone else tonight, but I really can't see where a wins coming from whilst we keep playing the same 11. We don't have any shots, even chances are drying up and we're making multiple whopping errors at the back. Coutts and Freeman probably aren't the answers as you're suggesting, but keeping the same team when it's got such clear failings would be madness.

Coutts looked good on the ball but did what he's always done dropped too deep. He's not going to create anything for the forwards from there and we know he's never going to get stuck in further up the pitch.

True, and I think we need far more than Coutts to turn this around. If we can use him as a starting point for attacks then i'd look to push Fleck on and give Coutts 2 or 3 good footballers to pass forward to in Fleck, Duffy and potentially Chapman. These three have shown very little so far mind, but they haven't become bad players overnight, they just don't suit long ball football.

I see what you mean but I think we need someone with real bite to play that role. Someone tigerish who can also protect the back four. I don't have a clue where to look but we don't have anything remotely like a leader on the pitch.

Spot on. It's really sad we've never even managed to replace Michael Doyle.

Coutts looked decent because Southend had knocked off. Start him, and you'll see the same result as every game last season.
