Which doesn't alter the fact that Clough left behind a bloated squad which swallowed up a considerable portion of the transfer budget. Which is partly why nobody misses him.

He also took us to two semi finals and the play offs after taking over a team that was doomed for relegation therefore creating a huge amount of revenue and kudos for the club. Maguire continued to improve and we generated 2.5million in revenue (more could be coming our way), Murphy became the player we were told about under Clough and was then sold for 1.7 million (squandered by Adkins) he also signed an unknown who today we've sold for 2 million ish. But yeah he fucked this club and last season was a thrill.

You're right, last season just fell from the sky. Perfectly normal to walk into a team that has almost 4 times the amount of players needed to start a match and then sift through all the shite trying to find a half decent line-up.
Anyway, he'll be shown up for what he is this season, a complete con artist.

You mean like he had to?

I see you've raised the bar again, I mean last season he was going to screw it all up but he didn't and now if Burton go down he's a poor manager ....what happens if he does the impossible and keeps them up, do you keep going?

He took somebody elses team up. Hasselbaink is a highly capable manager, all Clough had to do was run with it. If he does keep them up, then I have no argument. It still won't change the fact that he had the resources at his disposal at both Derby and United and squandered the opportunity both times.

Ok we'll never agree, unfortunately it doesn't alter the fact we are still in this league hopefully Wilder will do the business.

It was always going to happen, more important is what happens next, how much will CW get to improve the team, the quality of player he brings in and will all these deals be wrapped up before the window closes. We live in eternal hope again.

Have you Ricky? I'm far less convinced but this is shit or bust time for us all. We have some money so what will we do and how quickly? If we spend wisely then we have obviously learned some lessons, if we spend less than half of it and squirrel the rest into Kevs rainy day fund then we will not get promoted. We all know we need 4 players minimum to get out this division, buying them in January is too late.
Spot on. The use of this money and whether or not those 4 players are recruited to sufficient quality will make or break this season.

The season, the manager and potentially the club. We cannot keep going on dropping down and getting managers in without our stock falling further. It could be pivotal.

By the end of the transfer window I expect at least 3 or 4 more incoming (assuming no one else leaves). If not, I'm going to be exceedingly unhappy with chairman and/or manager.

didnt say we wouldnt spend it now

im annoyed this thread was posted saying we wont spend a penny of money from Adams

before we sold him

its utterly unwarranted drivel

we may hasve moved backwards , but at least youve admitted hes put the money in

its like making a bet ,
you put up the money and hope you finish in the first 3 to get some money back

hes backed some nags
none more than last seasons 3 legged donkey
it had good form but pulled up in september

It's not like making a bet though because as chairman of a football club, you have more influence over the outcome than a betting punter. You can put measures in place such as scouting networks, a commitment to a type of football, some sort of continuity in staff/ strategy etc.

Or, as in Kev's case you can blindly lurch from blunder to blunder being more fickle and knee-jerk than the average fan and be forced to put your hand in your pocket to stem losses caused by yout own awful leadership. Then you can boast to fans about your investment, blame bad luck and tell a few porkies along the way about Beattie Flu, game-changing investment, no longer having to sell our young starts etc.

Me too - in fact I'll be seriously miffed

what nonsense , ask 1danewhitehouse
all undisclosed fees are 100k no more no less

I never said anything of the sort but I know you love to play pretend. I said if there is no reported figure at all then for the purpose of our bet, we would assume “undisclosed” or “nominal” would be £100k as this would probably be a fair average. Let’s not forget, you raised absolutely no objection to that at the time we agreed. Are you now worried that there will be no million pound signing and you’ll end up looking rather stupid?

Hussey was “nominal”. Clarke and O Connell “undisclosed”. Given we landed Clarke not long after making a “low five figure bid” then I expect the final fee couldn’t have been much over £100k and I suspect Hussey will have been quite a bit less. How much do you think we paid for those 3?

based on his beliefs

he wont budge
I wanted a central figure between lowest and highest claim , but no

You’re telling porkies again. I agreed to a mid-point between the reported figures but suggested £100k WHERE THERE WAS NO REPORTED FIGURE- You raised absolutely no objection to that at the time. This has been the case on all 3 incomings. If you can find me reports of higher sums, provide them and we can re-consider what the mid-point is though I’d suggest that in transfer fees alone, we’ve probably actually paid less than £300k for those 3.

100k a piece means 20 new signings
never going to happen
has to be a realistic valuation like Clarke 300k

Ah OK so what you meant when you said "mid-way point between reported figures" was "I'll just make up whatever figure I like".

If you can find any sort of official report that says we paid £300k, I'll reconsider. As I say, you raised absolutely no objection to the arbitrary £100k figure for when there is no reported sum.
