It's the same with Charlton, one minute they can't afford to sign a couple of trialists, the next they're linked to a couple of really decent players

Us,Bradford, Millwall and Gillingham have all so far kept their best players while at the same time adding to their squads.
Top 4 maybe.

really good signing

How many times have you seen Pearce and Wilson?

I've seen Pearce play about 3 or 4 times. I've seen Wilson play about the same amount of times. Pearce is vastly better. Wilson is ok at best.

Not enough to judge

soz, do I need to do some badges and become a professional scout before I'm allowed an opinion on a piss poor CB who didn't stand out in a piss poor Oldham side? Or a much better player from a side who got promoted?

Then why arent there any clubs after your services?

I'm not replying on behalf of others but...It's almost as if you be in the industry or something...You could be absolutely exceptional at judging players and be working in a different industry.

Predictable response: "Why aren't they in the industry then if they are exceptional at it?" - The obvious answer to that being that they probably didn't discover they were good at it until after working in a different industry. And then you might not want to switch careers, but even if you did you couldn't just go straight into it as it's so niche.

I consider myself to have an eye for a player and this has been proven over the years with names going to big clubs but I couldn't just start working as a scout.

One of my favourite quotes came from Joe Mercer (when he was SUFC manager) when he shut up one of the SUFC directors who was questioning his tactics and team selections

Joe Mercer: What do you know about football, then?

SUFC Director: I have watched football for many years so I consider myself to be an expert

Joe Mercer: My wife has been sat next to me watching me driving my car for so many years, and she still cant bloody drive!

No idea what your problem is but he is a really good signing for any club at this level. Damn site better than our current no.2 CB.

Hey, any opportunity to reply with a shit 'GIF' has to be taken.

Pearce is a good signing for Charlton and gives them a better chance. A couple more like him and they'll be on for the title.

I think we're advertising for scouts at the moment. Both paid and unpaid. I'm guessing you need a decent track record to get a paid post but they might consider 'non-football' people for the unpaid. Worth asking if you want to get into it.
I was going to do it a long time ago for another club but they did want me to have a coaching badge (only the first one, can't recall what it's called now) and I didn't get round to it before I moved down south.

Why the fuck are you posting on a football forum when you've never had any direct association with professional football? On your 'logic' no one is allowed to comment on any football matters unless they're a professional in that field. Utter plank.

To be fair, I also first thought he would have been a good signing.

But when you delve deeper, he's left footed.

I don't think we are concerned there with O'Connell and the experienced Wright as back up. It's more the right side of Defence we need more competition.

I'd be half temped to get Craig Morgan despite his being 31 if he becomes out of favour. At his age he will want to play and you'd have to think Buxton and Burn joined with a view to starting. He was their captain too. Also got promoted with Rotherham back to back.
